Right, because it was true. Last year's commercial was cut down considerably for its "sneak peek" on Ellen.

That's rather presumptuous, as you haven't actually seen the commercial.

I'm going to put this as simple as I can for you.

What you saw was not the "official" commercial. It's a short promo made especially for GTN. You can plainly see this by the fact that the logo and contest details at the end take up nearly as much of the runtime as the actual footage does.

Every commercial that's been released for the event has been edited and paced differently than what the promo shows us. Your problem with the advertisement may very well be things only exclusive to that particular promo.

I'd recommend dropping the pretentious attitude and waiting for the actual commercial to air before you "analyze" the TV spot and tell the Internet about it.

You haven't long to wait, as the marketing is about to kick into gear.

Considering the website update hasn't arrived and the advertisement hasn't hit the air yet, I'd agree with them.

I'm sorry, but there isn't a huge fundamental difference between this:

The full promo is about 20 seconds longer and includes an additional bit of narration + a shot of the mask rack and cymbal monkey. The pacing is largely the same (just condensed in the promo).

This sponsor did not pay to have special footage shot just for them, or if they did, that'd be the first time I can think of that happening. This whole same conversation went on last year about the Ellen promo - the final commercial was almost completely the same. The poor acting, lack of menace, annoying victim, and unnecessary narrator are probably ALL going to be in the final commercial. The only thing that could be added is the "kill," which is not even so much as hinted at in this cut.

Hmmmm... maybe I should wait and see...

I'll absolutely be going. I'm just voicing my disappointment in the handling of our icon in this commercial. Nobody learns if nobody complains. And yes, I will completely refute all of my statements if the final commercial turns out to be vastly different.

Now, about that incredible-looking Poe scene!

I was referring to the full commercial shot (without the narrator), but you're right. The difference between the commercial that actually aired and the promo on Ellen wasn't vastly different.

However, I'd say that it was far too soon to judge the advertisement based solely on the promotional spot on Ellen, as assuming the full fledged version of it would be poor would be hasty, even if it did turn out to be the exact same thing.

The commercial boasting the same footage isn't enough. Pacing and editing, on top of the appropriate music, could very well make a vast difference. We don't know what exactly was taken from the commercial, other than the footage.

The point is, that small promo wasn't made by Universal as the "official" representation of the commercial. It's a promo spot for a contest and nothing more.

It's jumping the gun to assume the final commercial will be exactly like the promo. When it airs, and it will soon enough, then you can go on about what you think of it. But, now, you just come across a pretentiously trying to tear apart something that doesn't necessarily represent the final product.

You can hold me to this - if the final cut of the commercial is a significant improvement, I will refute my previous statements. I sincerely hope you are correct.

^For a good feel, look at the cost of the pass if it is really expensive (well more than normal) then it is going to be busy.
