Halloween Horror Nights 23 Speculation

The color video shows the details and effects better, which do look neat, but as far as scares go it doesn't look that scary. Still, it should probably improve (I hope)

Well I can almost guarantee you it will be less scary now that you've watched the video revealing many scare-actor locations and the uses of mis-direction (although those mis-direction tactics are usually fairly obvious). I started watching the video myself, but stopped rather quickly as not to spoil it lol. And I would bet my hair that not all effects are operational, things will be added, things will change. Live theatre is a constantly changing and evolving art. This is like a technical/ dress rehearsal, things may be added or augmented. Plus the actors need to get into the swing of things. So I'm resisting every surge to watch house walk throughs so I can be surprised. Although that shouldn't be hard, having transferred to UCF this semester, I haven't had much time to keep up with HHN, especially with everything else going on at the UOR.

I think it'd take a walker literally being set on fire to please some folks these days.

Hahaha, this literally made my morning. Thank you King K!

It’s weird, I don't like spoiling rides to myself yet HHN houses are fine, mainly because I need to know what I'm getting into

Question to those who represent the site - did Orlando United receive a media invite to last night's event? I'd be shocked if you didn't, given that Universal saw fit to invite a handful of random fans as "media..." Especially when aforementioned fans are known to never criticize the event and bash those who do...

Fair enough! I myself cant resist watching any videos of new rides. I mean with horror nights, I know it's coming each year, and for the most part what to expect, (unless they do something really new and out there)but its a one time thing and I want to enjoy it a new experience. But with rides, there's more customization possible. Anything can happen in what ever format they choose.

i noticed on the map that there is no areas highlightied with scare zones do we know exactly were they will be? did anybody find out last night at media event?

They posted this on the official HHN Twitter last night:

"The streets of NY in Universal Studios will be transformed into Atlanta from season 1" - Lora Wallace pic.twitter.com/lhnZsBbv2Q

As for the rest, I'm not too sure. I'm not big on The Walking Dead, so I can't really judge by props.

We did not.

From the preview video, I'm much more excited about this house than I was. I will say that the one guy who is yelling in the maze kind of bleeds over into the other scenes which kind of dampen the mood later on in the house. Woodbury is also kind of short and blah. Otherwise, looks really awesome.

The hell with the invites, we know more about the houses before the media ever even steps foot into them. Did I mention I knew about Resident Evil before the event was over last year and Teebin and I confirmed AWIL back in what March?

For instance,
Shortest House Resident Evil
La Llorona actual river inside with dead bodies and scare actors oh and be prepared for stilts
Afterlife has some of the most disorienting 3d rooms ever created
Cabin in the Woods and American Werewolf have some of the most elaborate HHN sets to date!
Costumed wolves in AWIL are some of the best HHN costumes this year
There is an adult feature within AWIL, something that I can almost guarantee won't last past opening weekend. Something John Landis personally ensured made it in to keep it authentic.

Also those other site are major booty kissers and will never say anything bad about the parks in fear of their perks being cut.

Anyone who has seen the film knows exactly what this is, and it really pisses me off that it won't make it past opening weekend. HHN is an adult-oriented event with mature content that's bound to include some excessive, gratuitous, R to X rated gore... and you're telling me they can't show clips from a porno in one scene in order to accurately represent a porno theater? Ridiculous.

I completely agree. Hoping it miraculously makes it to the second weekend so I can see it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh well, see you next Wednesday.

I'm hoping it makes it to the third, but yeah, pretty much resigned to the fact that anything controversial or technologically complex will be kaput by then. Oh well.

Oh - I also watched The Walking Dead walk-through. There are some definite improvements over last year's incarnation (the inclusion of characters from the show, survivors, show scenes) but overall the design feels oddly inconsistent and often sloppy. Creative scares are pretty much nonexistent. I won't comment on the acting & makeup since both will assuredly be improved dramatically by opening night (which, by the way, don't care what anyone has to say, is fair game to fully rate a house).

The only thing that bothers me about the lack of invite is that they gave some "super" fans entry into this media event. All you do is obsess to an unhealthy point over an event, that's not deserving of a media invite. I'm a huge HHN fan, but I have other things in my life that are just a little more important than HHN. On top of that, some people have worked really hard to garner their reputations and have built really good websites. I'm not even bitter that I didn't get picked, I'm just bitter because I have a lot of friends who have built websites. I just wish they would either open it up to everyone like the Tweet-Up in 2011 or keep it closed.

This. There were plenty of websites that deserved recognition that didn't receive it. Worse still, Jake, you probably weren't picked because you're willing to criticize the event. It's sad, but true. I know these individuals and they will actually block people who speak negatively about the event, even if their criticisms are well argued and valid (their words, not mine). This sends an alarming message - you can maybe earn access to HHN media events if you never complain and always praise the glory of A&D's masterworks that never have any faults whatsoever.

Whats the definition of a super fan because several of them looked to be about 18 years old... I mean I've been covering the event since 2001, and not to mention the past few years I've been going to both the Orlando and Hollywood events. Thats not cheap you know. The thing is though is that I'm not the only one here who does this, I mean look at Octobers Fade and tiredoldspook to name a few. Jesus they are the real deal when it comes to haunt events and each and every year they keep coming back to the event. So I ask the most disconnected social media management team in existence, who what when where and why? Just give the fans an explanation. God I feel bad for some of the creative and artistic minds who would love to share there amazing work with the real fans vs goodie bag brigade!!!

I'm not watching the walk-though and spoiling myself when I'm gonna see it live in just over a week, but I do want to point out something else for those with complaints based on the videos. I've read from the people who attended the event that they got to go through twice: first a full-on show walk-through, with no recording / photography... and the second time around it was with the lights on, when they were allowed to record. So, in those videos (from the second walk-through), the actors might be posing or being more self-conscious than focusing on the scares, and then the lights will be different than guests will experience.

Now a few rant-ish comments, if you will...
I think there's a disconnect between PR / Uni uppers, and A&D / Creative, and how they would handle things. I think OU (and other sites like it) get the short end because of the uppers who make the decisions on who gets the invites. I think if it were up to the A&D / Creative, these events and many things would be different. OU and some other boards were included on the HHN presentation at the Halloween Extreme / Mayhem event a few months ago, and I take that as a nod from A&D / Creative team of the event to the passionate fans (aka us) on these boards.

I might be wrong, but I think it's pretty clear why sites like OU are getting the cold shoulder in general from Uni, and it's because of the uppers who (understandably) don't like all info and details that are revealed from their upcoming projects, which they'd prefer to keep secret or reveal on their own terms... but they really need to get over it. For better and for worse, ease of communication and access to a lot of information is just part of the way things are in this day and age with all the technology available. I think they should stop 'taking it out' on these sites and rather work from the inside to keep their employees' and contractors' lids better sealed. Basically, if leaks are your issue, fix your pipes... Don't cut out / punishing the messengers, which happen to be some of the biggest fans, supporters and endorsers of your company.
