It is interesting in hindsight that I did a word of mouth poll on here a year or so ago about what people found more important. It was something like, 'design, scares, story, makeup" and most ended up saying it was the design. Yet when I watched closely last fall, everyone was saying something like "that was lame and not scary", or "wow, that was scary as hell".

It seems that scary is king with the majority of you despite what you might say when asked. I suppose that design etc can only support the scares or not.

Well, kinda. Scares are important but I still think (and I think a lot will agree) that design is still the most important. Havoc, for instance, was a poorly-designed house, but it was super intense. Still, you don't hear anyone say it was the best of that year, even though it may have been the scariest. On the flip side, I hear tons of rave reviews about Winter's Night on here (never really got the hype personally) and that was a very understated house with a great design.

The best houses have good scares and good design working together. It's also very hard for a badly-designed house to be scary because the whole point of the design is to mask scares, have good scares, set up good effects, etc. It's almost like saying a house is scary is also saying it's well-designed...the two go hand in hand. So, everyone is pretty consistent with opinions on here if you ask me.

Aaah... you are taking the word design further than I intended or foresaw. I see your point that good scare design is different from visual excellence design. Two different things. From what I somewhat understand, two separate elements design those two things; one the maze, the other the look of the maze. So one groups job is to make another groups layout "work". I had not sat back and thought about that before...

A well designed house makes it much easier for the scares to happen and once the scareactors get the feel and flow of the house they can excel and the sum of all the pieces together make a great house. Sometimes the actors can make the house still work but that requires more talented actors and generally takes longer to ramp up to that level. Halloween was a perfect example of the former while Havoc was a perfect example of the latter.

A well designed house full of detail will be good even if there aren't many scares. But throw scares on top of that and it just makes it better. With the conga line, the scares wont be consistent so the design of the house is the fall back for enjoyment.

Aiello stated last year during a tour of the Halloween maze that it was the first time that they had to design it from the middle due to certain scenes needing height requirements for sets.

The tents are tallest in the middle. I am assuming the outside scenes where full house exteriors could be scenes required the max height of the tent.

When you break it down. Scares come from pop outs and diverting ones attention away. At the grand scale of Horror Nights. There not going to break those tactics. So why do you want? I'm fine with the scares of now as long as the design is there.

So since there's 9. Any word on a tent or extended queue?

JDW said this about a third tent:

"Well... sure... Well... maybe... Well...
Confirming is such a strong word."

So it seems like the tent might still be the extra location, but that could change.

There is a very $$$ very good reason I could see them returning to the third tent idea. That said, their solution is/was/is clever. A real V8 moment that I must keep in mind.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. Sjago clarified perfectly.

Also run 3 with no Eddie is missing the entire point.

Well to be honest Eddie was never the entire point of Run itself. After all what was presented in 2001 did just fine without him. Also, Eddie didn't make Hostile Territory any better whenever he did finally appear in it. Also, it's being said this version of Run will be different then either of the previous versions, so who knows what we're going to get.

Also, while a lot of people are mentioning the icon's house as "Hallow'd Past 2" and whatnot, I don't think Hallow'd Past is a good comparision. After all, Hallow'd Past was a "Wasn't 2008 great? Oh yeah, we also did a ship house and here's a Treak" house. I think a better house comparison is Horror Nights Nightmares from HHN 14/2004 since that really was a full-on icon's house.

To quote a member of A&D..."You are not going to be scared by a piece of furniture, but it does add to the overall aesthetic allowing you to become a part of the 'world' that we are putting you in. The scare actors will always be the heart and soul of our houses though."

Sounds like fun!

I'm excited for Run to be honest..if it is anything like the original than I will enjoy it...Those were the days where HHN had a smaller budget and less tech..

I can only imagine what they could do now..that's my most anticipated..

I feel Eddie is a side character, like Cindy, he never really should be an icon IMO

That member is incorrect. The barrel in the middle of Forsaken that everyone tripped over was terrifying!!
