I've got to throw in my vote for Five Nights at Freddy's. I feel like there is a lot of opportunity for creativity there, it just so seems like the natural environment for a house. It would also probably be a relatively cheap IP deal in comparison to something like Walking Dead, could allow for more money to be spent on the actual house. There would be a little bit of a draw from the games fanbase, granted not as much as Walking Dead but probably comparable to something like From Dusk Till Dawn, and to everyone else it would just be the equivalent of an original house. If they really wanted to do something unique, they could set up a house that would be half maze, half actual Freddy Fazbears pizza eatery from which diners could watch people getting scared in the maze, kinda paralleling the popular YouTube reaction videos aspect of the game. Perhaps too logistically challenging, but I'm sure if they could pull it off that'd create some great buzz for the event and probably make a pretty penny in food sales for that location. They could build it in the Disaster queue and use Louie's kitchen to provide the pizza, just as they do for one or two of the carts nearby every once in a while for some of the annual events.

It's crazy, I love the Walking Dead as a TV show...I HATE it at HHN

I was picturing a Dead Exposure type experience..

How much do we want to bet that Dr. Jimmy is going to include 5NaFs in his April fools video?

All three are predominantly developed for and released on PC first. If you're going to be patronizing and closed minded at least be informed. I have no time for this "meh I don't want it it's an IP" BS. It's a new idea, not done before, and could draw in new people.

Enjoy your fourth year of Walking Dead.

Lol, okay. Please tell me more about my own life.

I think you guys misjudge the video game crowd. There are IPs that will get people in. I don't think 5NAF's is that IP, but what do I know I'm just a close minded HHN fan that's been going for 9 years.

I wish there was a reboot of Dead Space just so they could do a house off of it. Until Dawn and Bloodborne seem like they would be cool houses as well. But that's way too niche. I with they would swap out Walking Dead for Last of Us. At least the infected are fast and scary. But if they have the walking dead again it will either be really good because they will have to one up it again or it will be terrible and I think they will finally drop it. Does anyone know someone that has gone purely for WD? I'm curious how they have felt of its quality over the past 3 years. And if at this point they would come now regardless. They brought in this new base of people, I would hope they can wean them off and keep them. But they just seem like they wont come if they stop with WD.

I think TLOU will happen when the movie releases or the sequel, whichever comes first.

Devil's advocate: almost every single argument in support of Five Nights at Freddy's includes some sort of suggestion that they could find mass market appeal if they were to fly in prominent YouTube personalities to see it. I'd like to make a distinction: are we guessing what will happen, and using that as evidence, or are we now trying to do marketing's job of justifying mandatory IPs?

I don't know, guys. Why doesn't Universal just do their own haunted animatronic pizza parlor? That's the type of stuff they'd been doing for years before IP bonanza... putting their spin and the specific HHN branding on a generalized idea. That way they aren't beholden to any IP holder, aesthetic or unwieldy elements... they can just produce what they want.

I've suggested from the beginning that it is an 'inspired by' concept...everyone has gotten their panties in a bunch from the mention of the title..

actually i haven't mentioned bring in youtube "personality's" ever. personally its the one part of the game that i hate, i wanted it at hhn because it opened the door for a hell of a lot of creativity with the house, the theming, the story, the use of actual puppets and practical scares.

Simply put, merchandizing and advertising. I'm all about that, but there's a reason why the event is as crowded and "$uccessful" as it is now.

I know literally zero about Five Nights at Freddy's but I will say, the only video game IP besides Resident Evil that'd get me more excited for Horror Nights would absolutely be Last of Us. Maybe Gears of War.

No matter what, I think TLOU will come...Eventually. Just not now, I think give it till the new film comes out and we'll see a HHN-Tie in maze with Sony again on the film/game.

Regardless of whether you feel FNOF deserves a spot or not; can we agree that the IP's longevity could be put into question? 3 games in 6 months. Will it still be relevant in October? Looking at Top Grossing Games of the past week, it's at #52 after 20 days of release, dropping from #17 from the week before.

Look at the 2 gaming properties that they've used so far - Resident Evil & Silent Hill. Both games have had long, successful runs.

I've found that IP houses based off films that haven't come out yet are the big Achille's heel for UO Creative.

Convert one of the restaurants to that Little Debbie's idea and I'll drop some dough in there.

FNOF is a flash in the pan compared to Resident Evil, Silent Hill or any other property that HHN tends to use. Most of our week IPs are movie tie-ins to push people into seeing Universal films. Without the tie-in aspect, I don't think they'll see the value in it.

I thought I had remembered hearing that there was a Doom house at some point at Halloween Horror Nights (Possibly 2003?), and that the reviews of it ranged from terrible to meh. Doom at one point was such a significant/popular video game that they had done a movie for it as well.

Just to cut to the chase here is that there is no clear path to what will make a successful house or scare zone regardless of whether it is a video game, television show, or movie IP. Sometimes they are on the money and other times not. However, if FNOF proves to be successful enough to be present at Halloween Horror Nights, I would bet that it would be in a future year, much like AHS. I think that their main focus of this year will be a grand summation/improvement of original properties that they have grown and cultivated and have 2 or 3 IPs that will be added in to round out the event for the year. Unless they move into a second park, I'm willing to bet that this year will be a more heavily focused original content event with IPs being secondary (the exception being TWD of course).

As I said before relevancy in horror nights doesn't matter whatsoever. It's only up for a month so whatever goes goes. It could be a timeless classic or something that came out yesterday, either or it can work. Will it be popular by October? Possibly. Knowing how fast they make these games who says they can't pump out a 4 by then? And if it does become stale by the time October comes around it's certainly not irrelevant since it came out earlier this year. Anything is possible

It sounds like 3 is the last FNAF game, so this will be a test of longitivtiy.

Then why does relevancy matter in a month long event? Will people look back at it and that's how it'll become dated?

I promise you it won't be, they'll milk out more since they're cheap and easy to make. The youtube videos are becoming giant hits so it could live on through them

Because if Universal buys the rights to an IP that hasn't really proven itself viable over the long term then they shoot themselves in the foot. Its not about how relevant the property will be after the event, but rather how much of an impact it has had on the public conscious and if that'll be enough to sell tickets in September. Personally, I don't think any video game can attract a crowd the way a movie or TV show can. If the theme and storyline and whatnot are good enough for a house, Universal can base their own original design off of if without paying for licensing and be done with it. A video game with a niche audience wouldn't draw in enough people to make the cost of purchasing the rights to it worth it.
