You could def rope Trick R Treat into an 80s theme even though it's not really explicitly stated. There isn't anything in the film that I can remember that would not have existed in the 80s.

However if they are going 80s AHS Cult is out... right?

No. AHS is in. It’s the one thing I heard that does not fit

Indeed it does not :grumble grumble: .... If you can do 9/10 houses 80s is AHS Cult really worth it to have that blemish on the theme?

I have no problem with AHS coming back to horror nights, but I'd rather it not disrupt the theme... if they are doing the 80s.

If they're just doing a generic "the past will haunt you" instead of an 80s theme, AHS Cult has many sequences from the past that would fit right in.

So based on what JungleSkip is implying, if all the houses fit the 80’s theme except AHS, wouldn’t that throw Trick r Treat and the Halloween mashup out the window? Since it would undoubtedly have scenes from the new film?

Off-topic on a silly debate, but as one of the few resident 80s kids here ... I think the movie tries for a timeless feel, and has some obvious 80s inspiration. But the giant Spirit pop-up store selling slutty costumes is definitely a post mid-90s trope. More tellingly, the kids on the bus flashbacks (being vague on spoilers) are certainly more consistent with the late 70s/80s than the 50s. In other words, I think this is a stretch.

I weirdly usually just think of the school bus kids when I think of that movie, but you are totally right.

Oh man I definitely think the kids on the bus are pre 80s. I think TRT would fit in with the 80s vibe without feeling like too much of a stretch

Don't forget about the use of Marilyn Manson. That said, I would love to see TrT. I think it would make a great house.

It’s worth remembering that even Reflections of Fear, obstensibly an entirely original year based on fables and legends, had a house based on Doomsday of all movies. IPs, particularly popular IPs with multi-year contracts, are always going to take the precedent over thematic cohesion. So while I bet the originals and one or two IPs are going to be 80s throwbacks, I wouldn’t obsess over whether or not a property will show up based on when it’s set.

I agree. I always thought it was a nod to 70/80’s horror set in modern times.

When thinking of other IPs that haven’t been mentioned on here in quite a while, Hellraiser also comes to mind. Would fit the bill for the potential theme as well.

Yeah, there is some music, and I agree some stylistic choices, outfits and costumes that don't Scream 80s, but it's not like the film relies on computers or smart phones or current pop culture

I agree it's more of a timeless feel than 80s

I think you're on to something here. The theme for this year is that "The Past will haunt you", the houses so far along with rumored lineup seem to deal with the past one way or another. Even Dead Exposure is from the past coming back to haunt us with a new twist. So it's that but with an inspired 80's motif since the design team kind of grew up in that era. Not that everything is from the 80's.

It must be an IP if it is a share, but could it be same IP, different houses? I think AHS and TrT are the only things we can count on, but I don't know if Hollywood is getting TrT. Hoping for a surprise anyway.

edit- Ha! unintentional use of "surprise"

I've been thinking about codenames and the fact that no one is dissuading me from Krueger, and that surely was a rag-tag group trying to fight Freddy in Dream Warriors, huh?
