So 3 out of 5 Zones are comedy zones? (And the 5th is basically Photo Op Street?) I've championed the comedy houses for years, but this feels like too far of a swing in that direction. I don't want all the Zones to be "not-family-unfriendly." But this feels like more drift that way.

One of only two concerns I have about this year (the other being that there 10 houses will prevent any of them from being great), though it’s a bit of a dilemma because the comedy zones sound the most interesting.

the 80s was a cheesy time for a lot of horror. it fits the theme. i know NOT everything fits the 80s theme and some stuff will be more serious than others but these zones fit the theme and sound like a great time. I rather have a zone with a fun and crazy theme than a zone with a boring theme like the Barn zone (which can still be great)

Last year the purge zone was not that liked. it was a serious zone and it wans't that well received.
Altars of Horror was as far away from what you would call a comedy zone and it kinda sucked. Even Festival of the Deadliest (which was a serious zone) got a bunch of hate.

Vamp 55 has been one of the most beloved zones by a lot of people. Killer klowns has been a dream for the hhn team to bring up.
the Chucky zone can still be scary we dont know.

If anything a comedy zone can have more freedom than a serious zone because the actors might be able to let lose and have more fun in the zone. PsychoScareapy Unleashed was one of the best zones in HHN 25 because of how much fun the actors were having. just like Vamp 55.
I dont know i only see positives with the zone list. the theme might have some humor in it but they sound great.

Huh? I don’t see how Chucky and Killer Klownz are any way family friendly or any less scary than previous zones.

Oh I love that we're getting Killer Klowns and Vamp '85, I think there's tons of potential for those as well as with the Chucky zone, it's just one (relatively minor) thing that kinda bothers me.

This is why I find Poltergeist particularly intriguing--it's a movie that many families saw, but it has the potential to be terrifying. Seems like it's going to be one of the last announcements.

PsychoScarepy was my favorite Zone that year--top of all time--and I was a fan of Vamp. Similarly, Home for the Holidays and HR Bloodengutz are solidly in my top 10 of all time. I'm not opposed to dark comedy at HHN at all (tho I know a lot of fans are). And it could just be luck in getting the IPs this year. But it sure looks like a coordinated effort to make the Zones funny-scary as opposed to outright terrifying.

Ask long time fans to identify their scariest--as opposed to favorite--houses of all time. I don't think you're going to see comedy houses make that list.

I found Scareapy: Maximum Madness to be both very funny and very scary (particularly when an inmate popped out and roared "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" in my ear), but generally you're right. DE2 will obviously be a flat-out scary house, and hopefully so will the rest of the originals aside from SS (which admittedly sounds awesome), and possibly Poltergeist?

I think house-wise, this year has the potential to have a very good variety and fill nearly every spot on the
funny-to-serious spectrum (bar an outright comedy house).

So having more "lighthearted" scarezones doesn't seem particularly bothersome.

EDIT - wording.. scary -> serious

All this "comedic not scary talk" is, I think, ridiculous. The two genres go hand-in-hand. Something that is funny or over the top is a better distraction for a scare and a common response to fear is laughter, folks. More importantly, what haunt and horror fans find cute and hilarious, the general public finds terrifying.

Even Slaughter Sinema, the house everyone suspects to be the "comedy" house, is meant to be realistic, gruesome, and more scary than funny.

Basically, calm down. The event will be fine.

but what are the "Scariest zones" then? what are zones that could be considered the scariest ever? im not being snarky. im legit curious about this
if anything what works in a house will not work in a zone, and what makes a zone great doesnt work for a house. just look at Saws N steam.

I doubt this i an attempt to make the zones more family friendly. the actors will be just as aggresive as always. I can see Vamp 85 being a very aggressive zone actually, the theme might be humorous but Punk and Metalhead vampires on new years eve?
that sounds like it might be the most aggressive zone of the event. I have a feeling the vampires are going to go all out.

Chucky might be the same thing, the zone might have chucky talking to you and being silly but the actors will probably go insane in their costumes. "Demented toys" what can be more aggressive than that?

I have a feeling that Vamp 85 and Chucky will have a lot of scares because of the nature of the characters in the zones. I think the actors will take these characters and run wild with them.

Killer Klowns will probably not be that scary or aggressive but it should be visually amazing to see. it should be...

Let’s all be serious here. The people getting “scared” at HHN are doing it no matter what house or scarezone.

Ive never found streets to be that terrifying. Sure the actors in the streets Can and will scare you and will even make you fall on your butt.... but the open space and the loud noises and the big crowds dont really make the zones that scary. there is too many people around you and too much sound to be super scary either way.
Houses can be scary because the rooms are smaller than a zone and you are more vulnerable.
thats why i prefer when zones are colorful or fun.

At HHN26, while the Tonight Show ride was still being built, my cousin and I were exiting either Ghost Town or Walking Dead. We round that corner at the end of NY, and I jump like 6 feet in the air because there was a man standing right on the other side of the wall staring at us. Turns out, it was just a Jimmy Fallon cutout on one of the construction walls.

I don't think it matters what's doing the scaring as long as it can catch you by surprise.
