‘The Mummy’ Being Written and Directed by ‘Evil Dead Rise’ Filmmaker Lee Cronin (Exclusive)

Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, along with Cronin’s banner Doppelgängers, are producing the horror feature.

This is his previously untitled 2026 horror movie for New Line, from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.

A gonzo mummy horror movie sounds fun as hell.

NOSFERATU is my favorite movie of the year, and it's not particularly close.

It's a rare pleasure to see a new film that feels like it was made specifically for me.

Looked back and never saw this posted.

Directed by Josh Ruben (Werewolves Within).
Written by Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky).
Written by Michael Kennedy (It's a Wonderful Knife).
Produced by Spyglass (Scream (2022), Thanksgiving).

A romantic comedy whodunnit slasher about two co-workers (Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt) who are mistaken as a couple by the Heart Eyes Killer, a masked killer who targets couples on Valentines Day. The trailer is short but is already a great first impression, this is looking to be rather brutal when it comes to the kills. Plus, I think the team behind it needs no introduction.

Releasing February 7th, 2025.

Saw Nosferatu over the weekend - like many others have said, movie of the year for me.

Every frame of this movie is like a painting, absolutely stunning. All the performances are great, and the film does a fantastic job of building an atmosphere of dread leading up to the climax.

Bill Skarsgard is completely unrecognizable as Orlock.

I'll certainly watch it for comparison's sake, but I think the theatrical cut is very well constructed and paced as it is.

Another one I somehow hadn't watched until recently, THE STRANGERS. Very well executed first ~30 minutes ("Quicksilver Giiiiiiiirl") and chilling last five minutes (
sans Arwen's pointless final jumpscare
)...

...but a whole lot of nothing in the middle. I wanted to like it way more than I did.

I really like all of those movies for the most part so I will see this. Something about Josh Ruben rubs me the wrong way. I like his stuff but it gets too cutesy for my taste sometimes. Like something is just a little bit off. Don't really know what it is.

Yeah, Nosferatu is a masterpiece.

Seeing it in theaters it just felt like I was watching something that we talk about now that premiered in 1974 as an essential genre classic.

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to be the contrarian again, but I found Nosferatu to be overhyped.

It is unquestionably an incredibly handsome production. However, did we really need this umpteenth adaptation of the Dracula/Nosferatu story again? What did this version bring that was so dramatically different from the other films?

I thought the performances were a mixed bag. Some like Taylor-Johnson's and Corrin's were quite good, while Rose-Depp's was a bit too overly theatrical for me. Which I get is part of the point, but even then there are limits.

That brings me to Count Orlok which I saw as a complete wasted opportunity. Found Skarsgard to be incredibly one-note without any of the visceral shock that Schreck originated or the aching sadness Kinski imbued. Don't even get me started on the look. That was most definitely a choice. Made me wonder if I had accidentally walked into Sonic 3 at times.

He looks pretty much the way Stoker describes Dracula in the novel, which I appreciated.

Similarly, I think Depp's Ellen is closer to Stoker's Mina than most of the "official" Dracula adaptations have been in terms of that character.

I mostly agree with you but not as strongly. I didn't love the movie and I think it's easily Eggers weakest movie he's made. It's not bad though. Just didn't work for me for the most part.
