On Monday night at Vidiots, there was a special screening of The Substance, and Demi Moore herself attended and discussed the film. She admitted she didn't know what "body horror" was when she went into the film.

If there is a God there'll be a Raimi thriller every other January for the rest of time.

THE GORGE on AppleTV is pretty good! Intriguing concept, some cool monster designs (a little too CGI-y at times, but that comes with the territory now, unfortunately), and really good lead performances from Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Unexpectedly very romantic, too.

Yeah, I don’t know if I’d call it “good” - the writing is a bit thin at times, and the back half felt a bit compromised by likely-studio-mandated exposition dumps - but it’s very, very entertaining in the way many inherently silly genre and disaster flicks are. Worth watching.

Yoooo...This looks pretty fire! Jack Nicholson's son (previously seen in Smile 2) is the main villain and Samara Weaving is our protagonist. Might be set in the 90's.

I just watched Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person, such a good movie! It's very sweet. It's basically like if Before Sunrise was a vampire movie. But less romantic. If you're into vampires you should definitely check it!!! It's currently streaming on Shutter. I highly recommend it

Just got out of this. A fun popcorn movie that could have been tightened up a bit more, but still an overall good time with some very funny yet gruesome deaths. It sort of feels like Perkins was creating his own take of a Blumhouse film, but with a bit more gore. But if you're squeamish, most of the gore is pretty campy, which is really it's salvation IMO. The "Respiratory Stimulant" and movie poster were both great giveaways, felt a bit William Castle. And Osgood Perkins was there in person to introduce the film!

Also, Vidiots just posted a small clip of Demi Moore speaking about some of the messages in The Substance

THE MONKEY has some great, very funny deaths, and it's a great-looking film.

It's not written well, though.

The Monkey is some of the most fun I've ever had in a theater. Couldn't be more up my alley with Osgood Perkins playing in the same worlds Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson conjured up with their over the top, cartoonishly crazy levels of gore and hyper-insane-realism. Funny, great characters, hilarious deaths, I don't know what else I could ask for. The fact that Perkins can deliver on subtle, tonal, tension filled dread and darkness like in The Blackcoat's Daughter and Longlegs yet also do a 360 and drop one of the most blood soaked, funniest horror films of the decade really showcases just how talented he is.

I also kind of love that it is a sister to Longlegs with its themes and meaning. I balk at the idea that just because The Monkey is so tongue in cheek it's poking out and slapping against its forehead it can't have some deeper substance. There's a lot here to dive into, especially given Perkins' own macabre family history.

Horror continues to be on a massive hot streak!

I was amazed at how much I loved the GORGE. and how charming Anya Taylor-Joy was in it. she was so wonderful. I LOVED her performance in this.

I loved it so much. I loved the stuff going down in the gorge. maybe the story was a little generic but I really enjoyed it a lot. I love the chemistry that the two leads had. the action was really good too.
Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy were excellent in the action scenes. specially Anya, she was so awesome.

very very funny to see Sigourney Weaver basically play the same role as cabin in the woods lol

Also caught up with Companion last night and it was a nice little late night snack! Sophie Thatcher kills is and even though they hammer the twist home hard, I do wish I had gone in not knowing it, even if it is revealed early. Some great performances in a nicely tied up thematic tale for the modern era, I dug it!
