Howl-O-Scream 2015

Looking into going. It would be the 24th and I would do the fright feast. Never been before and sorry for all the questions but How bad are saturdays? will I be able to do all the houses and possibly falcons fury and cheetah hunt? And what are the usual wait times there since I have no gauge of what to expect?

The park opens at 5pm for the event and Fright Feast does not start until 6pm so you have at least an hour to get Cheetah Hunt done. If you are one of the first out of Fright Feast, hit Zombie Mortuary first then proceed clockwise (ZCU, DWB, U, TB, CoS, and D) around the park, but if you are not head to ZCU first then continue on the clockwise plan. Apart from trying to get on Cheetah Hunt before Fright Feast, skip all rides until your Front of Line Pass expires. We were just there a two weekends ago and had no issue running it this way. What I will say, though, is if it looks like you are cutting it close on time, make sure you hit Unearthed before your Front of Line Pass runs out.

Went for my first time this past Thursday. I enjoyed it for what it was and I was really impressed by their 3D house compared to the ones we've had at HHN. I really liked Death Water Bayou and Deadfall the most. We decided not to see Fiends. My friend got us front of the line passes but there was many short lines where we didn't even need to use it.

I think I would definitely go back in future years.

I went this weekend with my awesome girlfriend and had a blast!!! Barely any waits (even though we bought the front of the line passes) and got to do everything no problem whatsoever. I haven't been since 2011 and even then I only did one house because of lines (vampire casino), so this was an all new experience for me. I guess I can return again in 2020 and get a whole batch of new houses lol. Before I get into the houses I thought the zones were insanely lacking. Too far apart with barely and hordes to make the dead spots unnoticeable. We kept asking ourselves "where are the scary people?" Around 10 times throughout the night. A giant bummer because the zones we went through were awesome and full of really great costumes and fun. Just wish there were more. Also don't get me started on the parties.....ugh

Anyways onto the houses from worst to best

7. the basement- ehhhhhhhh. I wasn't scared once throughout this one. A very done to death story with some cool visuals but overall very lacking. It's a gore porn house at its finest, all show no substance. However the vomit girl was awesome

6. Zombie containment unit- I've never done a live action light gun game before and this was just a cool experience overall. The lighting was awesome, the make up was on point, the sets were cool and there was a friggin DJ blasting sick jams the entire time. It was more action than horror but I digress, I liked it. Now if you could only see your score at the end

5. deadfall- one word, creepy. I loved how it was all outdoors and some of the makeup was surprisingly very disturbing. It made me jump a couple times and it was just overall a great house

4. Scarlett's revenge- the build up and everything leading up to this was phenomenal. Seriously the kind of stuff HHN needs to take note on. The house itself was insanely atmospheric and creepy in its own little way. It wasn't scary as it was cool. I'll also say this here, I think Scarlett was a really dumb icon. I'm sorry but when you think of the word "unearthed", you don't think of a sexy girl with horns. Compared to the other monsters in the house, she stuck out like a sore thumb in the worst way possible. Anyways moving on

3. Circus of superstition- pretty friggin awesome for a 3D house. Lots of scares, surreal moments and just overall great house design. Loved the costuming and facade especially. There were a couple superstitions used that were scraping at the bottom of the barrel but I digress, when clowns are used right they are a great time

2. Death water bayou- phenomenal, this and number one are neck and neck for the top. It had everything I loved about the other houses combined into one. Surreal, creepy, scary, gorgeous sets, costumes it was all there. So many unique moments and fun things to look for, loved every second.

1. Zombie mortuary- seriously incredible. The smells, disturbing scenes, scares from every angle, set design, costume design, everything design was just on point. The actors were also pitch perfect and got me and my girlfriend on multiple occasions. From the second you hear the organ play I knew I was in for a treat. After years of WD houses I thought I would never think zombies would get me again, I was beyond wrong. Bravo!!!

So that's it!!! I hope you enjoyed reading this as I enjoyed typing it. Go out and experience it for yourself it's worth every penny!!!! Don't think I'll go for another couple years just so I can get all new houses but whatever, if you haven't experienced most of these they are a must. Any questions you all have I'll be happy to answer and party on dudes!!!!

Thanks for the review Cole. Turns out I might be going this year at 10/31. Wasn't planning on it as I'm still floored theres only 1 new house this year.

Your welcome!!! that's super exciting. I'm floored too, there seriously needs to be some kind of budget increase because 1-2 new houses a year is just not another reason to keep coming. It's fun everytime but this event needs to expand if it wants to get better

So I ended up going on Halloween and wow. How great is Unearthed? I thought it was up there with some of HHN's best. Just insanely detailed, atmospheric, and honestly scary. I was going through by myself when I ended up actually going BACK and waiting for my friends.

Reading this makes me wish i'd have gone this year. There definitely has been an uptick in quality of the houses at HOS ever since Death Water Bayou in 2013. Their problem mostly is location and budgetary restrictions. They also don't have the accolades HHN has to brag about either ("Best Halloween Event").

I'll have to make the trip next year.

Yeah, if they keep adding houses like Unearthed and Death Water Bayou, they will have their strongest house line-up ever soon. I wish they could afford more new houses but I will have no problem with doing Unearthed next year. Also, Zombie Containment Unit was insanely fun. We all had a blast and some good scares with that one.
