Please just give Zelda to Dreamworks if there are going to be more of these.

Really wonder how long until we see Universal publicly commit to going all in on Nintendo for movies and the parks at this rate.

Mario may not just be Universal's biggest grossing movie in years but also the biggest animated movie of all time, a record that was thought unthinkable.

Loved it. So fun, not preachy or pushing an agenda at all like a certain other studio. Enough said.

Just a couple records Mario took...

- now the top grossing video game movie of all time in the US
- has the biggest international opening for an animated movie ever dethroning Frozen 2
- has the biggest 5 day opening ever in the US dethroning Transformers Revenge of the Fallen

1 billion for this movie is a guarantee. I think the question now is 1.5 billion.

Review
I put this as better then Sonic One but I think Domic 2 is the better film

I think I understand why many don't love this film, like the parts that are generic are pretty meh but the action scenes are very fun and when the film gets going its a blast. If anything its almost too fast paced of a film but it has beautiful animation, great action, great designed areas, the classic Mario music is amazing and the modern stuff is meh.

DK was my biggest surprise. I liked him a lot more then I thought I would and Cranky feel very flat for me he was just kinda there....does not live up to his 90s tv show adaption at all

Overall I liked the film and did get emotional at finally having a mario movie and so glad its killing it at the box office, moves us closer to Walugi in movie

Last thing how did they not make this movie into a game? I felt like I'd love to play a mario game where you fight DK and the ability to jump down onto blocks would be so much fun in a game

Is this relative to other five-day openings? Or mixed in with traditional three-day weekends too?

Not surprised this movie is raking in money but this is pretty wild.

The film has a long runway ahead of it too with the family market as Across The Spiderverse doesn't come out until June.

Roughly a month is when the vast majority of business gets done for most films unless you release over the Holdiay period in December then you typically have a longer window.

It should be well over $1B by May.

Peacock didn't affect Puss in Boots 2.

I'm not saying it won't make money, but it coming out on home streaming will take out some of the legs.

Frozen 2 opened on a Wednesday also so comparing its first 5 days to Mario is fair.

I believe the biggest 3 day weekend in the US for an animated movie was Incredibles 2 which Mario may have just fallen short of, but that's due to Mario opening on Wednesday thus lessening weekend demand.

Already see people boycotting because kamek was in drag in one scene

Puss in Boots 2 had the opposite effect...once it went PVOD/SVOD, more people went to see it in theatres with drop percentage being really really low.

Sorry for double post

I don't think that's entirely accurate, but it's also a completely different situation. You still had to rent PiB for $24.99 on Jan 6 and that was still within the first month of release. By the time it hit streaming and rent for cheaper in mid-Feb, it slowed down.

Frozen 2 did not open on a Wednesday. It opened on Friday November 22nd. So Frozen 2's opening was a 3 day.

I have to imagine we won’t see Mario hit peacock until June. Both Minions and Puss In Boots got long time buffers for animated films, and that seemingly is continuing with films such as Cocaine Bear having a 2 month period where it stuck to theatrical

The industry in general is moving back to longer theatrical exclusive times now.

Yeah - that one is on me. Wiki said May 9, but I read the sourced articles and it doesn't specifically say May 9, just "within a 45-70 day window".
