IoA's T-Rex is way better, but that's about all that's better IMO

Been on both several times, you be correct sir! However I do think the raptor box falling vs the car falling fits with the ride storyline a little better but that's just me.

I agree too, in fact I prefer the Raptor crate altogether. The falling jeep never really looked that convincing to me, and I think it's hilarious listening to how first-time riders react to when the raptor crate falls.

I honestly don't think either are all that impressive. The car is cool and has the sparks, but the stupid wires holding it are just laughable. As for the Raptor cage, I think if we could see the raptor it would be better.

Would love to see the second T-Rex in the ceiling added to IoA's River Adventure. Not sure if it's even a realistic possibility but it's such a huge omission from USH's version. The wall scratching effect at IoA is easily missed and doesn't add much to the tension.

The best thing about IOA's and what (seemingly) puts it over Hollywood's is the more immersive atmosphere, since you're not in a Studio setting, but rather an entire Jurassic Park themed "island". It just adds something a little more to it. And IOA's splash is cooler.

The Hollywood version has the ability to adjust how wet the riders get, to make better use of the ride in winter months. I was there a few years ago in January and I didn't get a drop on me (apart from being spat on by the dilos) in 10 rides over the two days (the park was empty so everything was walk on.).

I made the highly intelligent move of riding the River Adventure in January of 2011. As we got on the ride, the operators came on the speaker saying, "Welcome to the Jurassic Park River Adventure. The temperature today is 29 degrees with a wind chill of 17...you people are crazy. Have fun!"

I rode IoA's JPRA yesterday immediately after rewatching the USH video, and I apologize for anything I said in defense of the ride. In its current condition JPRA is pretty sad. None of the AAs are doing their full range of motion, lighting is off, and there is so much fog obscuring the Trex it might as well be a head on a stick.
On the plus side, the park was so dead I had a boat all to myself.

I have never heard of a setting for this. But I do know there are several factors that affect the splash including the weight (like 5 passengers vs a full boat) as well as the weight distribution (heavier passengers in the front or back of the boat).

In Hollywood they remove the fin looking things from the back of the boat, they remove the fin looking things underwater at splash down and turn off the additional water effects throughout the ride with of course the exception of the dilo's.

Well I thought I remember reading that magnetic brakes had been installed because of the shorter distance from the splash down to the turn into the station. As far as that controlling the size of the splash, idk. I agree the weight and the distribution is a factor for the splash. However I would think that the guide track envelope, the lower rails and the uplift rails at splash down would limit any splash size variations by limiting the boats vertical movement (both into and out of the water) and that would keep it pretty consistent, at least in that spot. So I guess if you slow the boat down more quickly via brakes it would decrease the splash size. Just thinking out loud, I could be wrong!

Edit: oops HTF posted while I was writing lol

Thanks for finding that video! Funny that in all the times I've been on the USH version, I've never seen the falling car work, nor seen the final Trex move through the waterfall that fast! Wonder when it was shot..,

BTW, sorry if was unclear earlier, but the first Trex at USH is the one that is just a head. The finale Trex does has legs, but its a less sophisticated animatronic that doesn't have the full-body walking animation that IoA's (theoretically) does. As you can see in this video, the waterfall is used to obscure the fact that he's a mostly static puppet that is pushed forward by a ram at the last moment; in IoA he has a whole warmup animation cycle while you approach that is more dramatic (though less shocking) if and when it works...

Ok that makes more sense.

I've never been to USH, but seeing that video, the one thing that's interesting to me is going up the lift hill in the building, there's an effect a la Big Thunder Mountain, where it seems you'll keep going up, but the track dives in the middle.

I would be afraid to be on the boat by myself once it enters the building with the T-Rex. Was it scary being all by yourself?

Not to change subjects, buuut, if you want to be freaked out on a ride because you are by yourself. I suggest TOT. I don't get the creeps easily, but man, that ride is CREEPY alone lol. Anyway to contribute to the thread. I rather like the way our (IOA) splash is now. I remember the first time I saw it when I was about 9 or 10. Very impressive for a pre-ride build up. I mean I could do with out the sonic boom sound every ten seconds, but that's just part of the build up, IMHO.

Just out of honest curiosity, Jungleskip and natespf; why don't you guys like it?

I don't want to get wet. :pixiedust:

It is a fun ride, but I usually skip for that reason.

Being the only person on a Jungle Cruise boat, as in being the skipper by yourself, is SUPER creepy. Especially if you keep your lights off. But that's something very few get to experience.

I just think IoA has way too many soaking attractions
