New Goliath Coaster at Six Flags Great America

^ Are inversions on a wooden coaster commonplace? I was shocked by that.

It is among wooden coasters built by Rocky Mountain Construction. They have really revolutionized the industry (they built Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City btw, not the Gravity Group). If you look them uo, they have a solid coaster lineup already and have some notable new projects coming up as well. They dont really construct wooden roller coasters in the traditional way though.

You are correct in the fact that Outlaw wasn't built by the Gravity Group, I posted the link to Gravity Group as I thought it was an interesting read and didn't mean to imlpy that they had built Outlaw, sorry for any confusion.

Most woodies these days seem to be built as hybrids. Here in the UK the fans have been wanting a new woody for years but market research deems that the general public sees them as unsafe and uncomfortable. Alton Towers have continuously refused to build one on this information, even though plans have been approved in the past (http://www.activism.com/en_GB/petition/a-wooden-coaster-for-alton-towers/54977). Hopefully these hybrids will swing the general public and we will see a new "woodie" in the not to distant future, one can at least dream.

Not very common place, I think one opened at Silver Dollar City in recent times.

Here is link you may find interesting http://thegravitygroup.com/gravitycast/gravity-group-sends-wooden-roller-coaster-upside-down/

EDIT

Outlaw Run is the ride I am thinking of, it was indeed opened at SDC on March 15 2013.
