Bloomberg of all places has a big article on Pandora: Disney’s Intergalactic Theme Park Quest to Beat Harry Potter - Bloomberg

Nothing new, but a good primer for anybody who's new to the community + the Avatar story. They say Avatar only cost $500M though...

Disney says nothing, it's an analyst who says it "conservatively" costs that much.

Across all theme park sites I go on, I think you're the most negative poster across any of them, and I read Magic! I don't think theme parks are for you mate... you should find something you enjoy.

Or really, those of you who feel constantly compelled to silence me need to consider why your ego is so fragile that my having of an opinion wounds you so.

Meh at your lack of justification for how that reads as bioluminescent instead of a few plastic plants that light up and some blue area lights.

It doesn't wound me. I read it, question it, then move on.

I have no intention to silence anyone, but theme parks are fun. You don't seem to enjoy many aspects of them.

Do please explain to us how it is possible to create truly bioluminescent plants.

The tree of life is just an oil rig. The dragon in Diagon Alley doesn't move. The Haunted Mansion isn't really haunted. The imagineer is wearing tacky jewlery, which must mean his work is inferior. The bioluminescence is fake.

Guys, I actually tend to side with @epcyclopedia on this one. Just because he's got critiques doesn't mean he hate the parks. It's clear he has a very different perspective on things and I suspect he's had years of experience working in the industry that a lot of people dont.

For a project that costs upwards of 1Bil, I'd expect to see something more than what I can create in my own backyard with $15 LED floods. We keep echoing this world class moniker for UO and Disney, but aren't allowed to make valid observations when clearly they're justified? Give me a break - the guy is totally on point in his assessment.

Show us the bioluminescents that make the World of Pandora a "must see" night time experience (as it's being advertised... by the way). Otherwise, I'd expect Universal to steal the show this summer with the nightly eruption at Volcano Bay.

And my "fix" would be to create habitats with biolumiscent plants and animals that do exist on earth.

Farm the algae, shrooms, etc... and keep them alive in the spirit of the park itself.

Not put plastic plants everywhere and say it's the same thing.

The same folks that will rave about these "bioluminescence" plants are the same ones that are apoplectic about "neon" slides at VB.

Watch them have some small animals (jellyfish) in the queue for all we know...

when i come to OU i come recognizing there is slant/boas to Universal which i m fine with because i love the universal info
same with disboards....i have zero issues with people critiquing this project but to start a thread just to say i hate this part about it, and i hate this part about it, and this part i also hate is a little over the top and not just critiquing
