What are those large blocks of darker color in the sky BW? Are they jpeg compression artifacts?

Well, I wasn't trying to "get you". It is a fine pic. Did your camera save it with those artifacts or did it happen later?

^ I would have to go back and find the original hi-res shot but I believe it happened in the camera. I usually leave the camera on "auto" so I can catch that really quick shot. I would normally set it to manual for a shot like this but I just didn't have time to adjust the settings if I remember correctly.
