Not sure where to post this so I figure a general "updates" thread for SeaWorld might not be a bad idea.

Story on News13 about the skeleton crew at SeaWorld tending to the animals during the CV crisis:

Speaking of, they just had a new baby dolphin born:

Posted this in future updates (which was probably the wrong place to put it)

SeaWorld CEO: We are hoping to reopen in June

SeaWorld interim CEO Marc Swanson reportedly told Vice President Mike Pence during his visit to a hospitality industry roundtable in Orlando Wednesday that he hopes to reopen the aquatic park sometime in June.

They filed a permit on Friday to put up two tents for guest screening, so the wheels are definitely in motion!

SeaWorld is now doing their 4th of July fireworks on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, with a reconfigured show which will be viewable all around the lake making it easier to spread out the crowd in the park as well as spreading it out over several days:

SeaWorld Orlando will play host to three nights of fireworks displays to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. “Light Up the Sky” will happen above the theme park’s central lake…

SeaWorld is now the only park in Orlando doing fireworks (Friday and Saturday this week, and probably more dates being added), and they are bringing back a scaled down version of the Seven Seas Food Festival Friday-Sunday from this weekend through August 9th:

Today SeaWorld announced "Electric Ocean Remixed" every Friday and Saturday through September 6th, with fireworks on those nights.

Internal Server Error | SeaWorld

During the day it's "Taste of the Seven Seas" running weekends through August 9th, then weekends August 15th through September 20th the "Craft Beer Festival"

Now let's see if they start work again on Ice Breaker...

SeaWorld Orlando is going the opposite of Disney & Universal, and expanding their hours. They announced that Sea World Orlando will now be open 7 days a week. Aquatica also. And they will be open until 10:00 PM on Fri., Sat and Sunday for the next two weekends. They are also expanding the Craft Beer Festival to Fridays.

Ironically, SeaWorld and Busch were perfectly positioned for this season we are in

They are doing a good job taking advantage of what few opportunities are available to them, considering covid restraints. Being aggressive going after locals, and providing them with night time hours in the park, and a nice festival,
may well be something that carries over, in a positive way, after covid.

Not the best corporate citizenship, but they’ve certainly benefitted from firing everybody at the offset and rebuilding at a slower pace with the people they want to rehire.

Wouldn‘t be surprised if they pick up some Disney and Universal folks, something that would have been unfathomable in January.

They didn't "fire everybody", thy just furloughed their staff at the start while Disney paid their staff for two months before furloughing them and Universal paid their staff through the whole closure and then laid people off after re-opening.

It is interesting to see that it appears their strategy seems to be working and their overall company health seems stronger than their fellow theme park only operators Six Flags and Cedar Fair. Especially when people were writing SeaWorld off completely in the midst of the closure.

Busch was always such, but SWO had to become a local park largely because of Blackfish...how ironic if BF helps them survive this.

Yes, there previous financial woes have left them nimble, thin, and easy to adjust to circumstances.

For instance, if they want to start a new festival or close rides all the sudden they just kinda do it.

A lot of updates going on throughout the park: New SeaWorld Rides and Attractions | SeaWorld Orlando

660x410-swo-blog-springbreak-lighthouserendering.ashx

We have completely reimagined our iconic entrance lighthouse and given it a brand-new look for 2021. This 50-foot beacon of fun was recently hand-painted by 5 talented SeaWorld artists over a period of 13 days. The mural features a total of 16 sea animals in a vibrant, watercolor-inspired look. Be sure to stay until after the sun sets, because the tower will be illuminated with blacklight to reveal a new look you don’t want to miss!

Looking for your next big Insta-win? Don’t take a picture with just one color when you can go under the sea (at #SEAworldorlando) with a brand-new, coral-themed Insta-wall just inside the entrance.

Calling all Arctic explorers! There’s a brand-new restaurant at SeaWorld Orlando. With fresh and juicy ground-beef burgers and grilled chicken, along with hearty pizzas and beers on tap, this is the perfect spot to set up basecamp and refuel for more Arctic adventures. Altitude Burgers is now open next to Wild Arctic and Glacier Bar.

A guest favorite since it opened, this SeaWorld Orlando classic is getting a complete makeover for 2021. New floors, lights, and interpretive displays, along with brand-new habitats featuring lionfish, Caribbean fish, lobster, and moray eels will make Shark Encounter a can't-miss experience the next time you visit the park. Our reimagined Shark Encounter is now open!

There’s no better way to beat the warm Florida sun than a delicious milkshake or ice cream cone. That’s why we’re introducing a brand-new ice cream parlor featuring over 13 flavors of Edy’s Ice Cream. This new location will feature monster shakes like Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, enormous brownie sundaes, and hand-dipped ice cream cones. Guests over the age of 21 can even add a shot of their favorite liqueur or cordial to any of our milkshakes. Edy’s Ice Cream Parlor is now open at the front of the park next to Dolphin Nursery.

Take a stroll down Duval Street at SeaWorld Orlando and enjoy the vibrant colors and tropical ambiance in our completely refreshed Key West. Grab a hot dog at Captain Pete’s Island Eats, pick up the perfect island-inspired souvenir at Coconut Bay Traders, and enjoy a Dolphin Presentation at our freshly renovated Dolphin Cove. Experience all this Key West flavor without leaving Orlando.

Enjoy delicious entrées with waterfront dining at the all-new Lakeside Grill located next to Oyster’s Secret. This new dining location, formally the Spice Mill, will be completely redesigned with a contemporary coastal-inspired interior and exterior. The indoor dining room will feature a brand-new 600-gallon aquarium with a variety of marine reef fish and live coral. The outdoor dining area will offer expansive views of the SeaWorld waterfront. The location will also feature a completely new Mediterranean-inspired menu including turkey burgers, kabobs, falafel, and Mediterranean nachos. We look forward to welcoming you to this new location in late March.
