A rumor from theforce.net speculates that George Lucas may be in attendance opening weekend of Star Wars Weekends for the official launch of Star Tours II. That would be major.

When I asked my Twitter followers which of the four Disney Star Wars Weekends I should attend, I certainly wasn't expecting this reply:

"@erier2003 opening day, rumors of Uncle George being there to unveil Star Tours 2."

I asked my tipster "r0gue" for more information, and here's what he said:

"I have a friend who is a coordinator at Hollywood studios that was told all vacation plans on opening day needed to be canceled..

.. because all hands on deck needed for Georges arrival."

When asked for comment, Lucasfilm's Chris Argyropoulos said that "it's a bit too early to tell if Mr. Lucas will be attending." With that in mind, take this rumor with a grain of salt (as is always the case in these situations). It would certainly make for an exciting debut of the new Star Tours ride if The Maker showed up at Disney's Hollywood Studios to cut the ribbon!

that would be EPIC if George came here... it's not bad for him to go to DL but it's a big deal for him to come out here just for this...

I thinkkkkkkk what he meant was that Lucas became the plague after 1990. Anything he touched died a horrible death.

Not that big of a deal, just a matter of how much time he has.

Not that busy and he can surely afford the trip to Florida for the opening of his own ride at Disney World, and it would be a write off!

I'll never understand the underlying animosity towards George Lucas. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Don't show up, and he's ungrateful. Show up, and he's a money-hungry Star Whore with nothing better to do with his time.

The money-hungry argument always gets me the most. Why? Because the guy has consistently turned his assets back into revolutionizing the film industry, including non-linear (digital) editing, Pixar, digital effects and animation, digital film and projection --- all of which wouldn't exist without his direct interest, foresight, and investment. That's a far cry from taking the money to buy an island and drink pina coladas all day.

Of course he's profited personally from it as well. He'd be an idiot not to. But that being said, how about this:

But concerning the constant bashing of the prequels, Jar Jar, etc.... A serious question: If you don't like it, why do you care? I'm not particularly a fan of Harry Potter, but I certainly don't feel the need to read it, watch it, post about how dumb I may think it is, and blast J.K. Rowling about how much money she squanders. Because, simply put: It's not for me, so let it be.

But, as they say:
HatersGonnaHatePanda.jpg

My outlook on Star Wars: The original trilogy made me a lifelong fan. The prequels are supplemental to the originals, and I'm glad to have them. Would I be a Star Wars fan if the prequels were the only trilogy? Probably not. But I like them for what they are, and if I didn't... I would stick to my Han Solo shirts and NOT BOTHER WITH THE PREQUELS.

And for the record, as an old school fan: The Clone Wars is the best show on t.v. right now.

You make some great points and I don't want to take away from that but as a fan of many other things(even if Star Wars may not be something I am hugely passionate about) I can tell you that you answered your own question in the same statement.

A true fan DOES care about the quality..always. Like Disney theme park fans. A fan can always wonder what could of been better or praise what they like and be honest about what the feel fell flat. Others, are fanatics that will constantly swallow what ever is fed to them like it is the best thing ever.

Take the bashing as people being passionate and honest. They care about how Star Tours turns out.

I was not bashing just stating the facts, GL deserves everything he has. It was his risk with his money.. and he should be there for the opening as I know I would be.

As someone who grew up with Star Wars, I was ten when it came out, it was a large part of my life with a lot of fond memories and that is why I care.
Not a hater (hell I have even defended GL from the Crystal Skull haters) far from it... except Jar Jar... sorry that is a horrid character and deserves nothing but hate!

I don't think anyone here was trying to bash Star Tours 2. This thread exists because we all love Star Wars and the original ride and can't wait to see how the new one turns out.

No, he was saying that people were bashing the prequel trilogy, which, I guess we kind of were. Personally I agree with everything Octobers Fade said. (Except for the whole being 10 when A New Hope came out part.) I'm not trying to bash it. The prequels were okay. Not original trilogy level, but okay. There are some parts though, that I can not give any credit for, i.e. Jar Jar.

Oh, my apologizes. I understand now. I actually kind of like them. I really liked part 3 for example.

Am I the only person here that really liked episodes 1-3? It may be because how Octobers Fade was ten when New Hope came out, I saw Phantom Menace when I was five and grew up with the prequels and really was and still am amazed by them. And for Star Tours II I think that we can get a really get a great ride in the time between III and IV. We already got The Force Unleashed in that era and that was no letdown. I personally hope to see Starkiller in the ride because he could really be a nice touch for fans. I don't think that Disney and Lucas will let us down.
