Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser

This really feels like a cruise ship, but on land.

I can see why Disney is pushing this project now. If it’s a success, they can build a brand new market of all-inclusive cruise-like resorts.

While I get, and help push, the "cruise ship on land" aspect I think people forget how much time people spend doing things on a cruise that this hotel won't offer: pool, sun bathe, etc.

Your not going here with the mindset of a regular hotel, your here for the ultimate Star Wars experience. You'll be busy with whatever they have planned for you from the moment you arrive, to the moment you leave.

Yeah, I think after this opens, we may see a quick addition of a pool after Disney realizes the obvious in that guests want to go to the pool and sunbathe on vacation. Even if they are fully into the Star Wars stuff, I still think you will have members of most traveling parties that want one.

It really does make me wonder why they decided to go with "starcruiser" instead of "luxury space casino outside of Black Spire" as the theme. It'd give you a lot more flexibility too...

Because you said the word 'Casino'. Disney's actively lobbying against them, they don't want to have a hotel themed to one (and then all the dads would get mad once they realized it's only a Casino in "theme", not a real Casino).

The pool is pretty much the only part most parents actually enjoy on their vacation. It's literally the MAIN reason people go on cruises.

I'm mean they could have also just added a third level....and you "elevator" to a distant planet to sunbathe, just like you are transported to Batuu. An open air third floor deck surrounded by walls that mimic the top of the spaceship would have worked fine. Whatever.

I think I'm going to need to see actual video tours and videos of the experiences before I get a solid opinion. The lack of sunlight could really bother me. As of right now, I'd rather spent thousands on a Disney Wish trip.

I’m going to be hyper-critical for a moment here but...

Exposed closet = cheap.
Exposed minifridge = cheap.
Exposed safe = cheap.
If the bathroom was anything special, they’d have shared a photo.
Absolutely tiny room with bunk beds that appear unusable beyond a 14-15 year old.

I get the “cruise cabin on land” idea, but this isn’t a boat. Disney could have made these 380-400 square feet no problem. It’s like the design started with “full size window into space on one wall” and went from there and then spiraled into “tiny wall with even smaller window into space.”

Cool pillows though. Edit: thought that was a pillow on the bunk bed... it’s just a rolled-up blanket.

I feel like the major problem of this resort is that there are likely tons of great activities to do but no one's gonna want to sleep in those rooms. And if they have to maintain the illusion that you're in space, even while you're sleeping, are they going to be pumping space noises into the room? Like a less intense version of the Disneyland Space Mountain queue humming in the background?

The hard sell will be on the experiences - I get the exclusion of a pool because there will be things going on after check-in on Day 1, Day 2 will be Galaxy’s Edge (and let’s be real here... Hollywood Studios) with more activities in the hotel, and then you leave the morning of Day 3. If you want to hang by a pool, you’ll tack days on to the front or end of your Starcruiser stay.

Maybe it's as fun as a real cruise ship, like a course in folding space napkins, a contest of changing baby Joda's diaper, space wine tasting, going to a mediocre show, watch a Star Wars movie on your window for 28 bucks extra, or get in a stilted conversation with a character who clearly doesn't know who Lobot is and that you found a screw that probably fit him and another crew member who doesn't know what you mean when you ask if Yarna d'al Gargan will give a performance on the ship or if that big woman is just a guest.
Yeah I this is a stupid idea but I'm looking forward to the reviews.

That may actually help me sleep haha

But seriously, there are a ton of points where this idea has faults.

The lack of sunshine/natural light coming in is concerning to me.

People really love sunshine when they come to Florida, it's what the state is known for

I guess I just don't understand why this couldn't have been on Battuu, just continue the aesthetic

Also...are we able to watch TV in our rooms?

While I see value in a pool -- particularly for anyone who comes back from running around DHS in August wearing Jedi robes -- I'm sure the story beats will require all guests to be in the same area at different points throughout the day. Remember this seems as much a mystery dinner theater as a cruise, with an actual story that plays out over your stay. Imagine the guest complaints if little Johnny was in the space pool and completely missed the climactic Day 2 moment when the First Order boards the ship and that mysterious castaway apprehended in the morning reveals herself as a Jedi and repels the invasion. gain, the entertainment pretty much needs to go from breakfast to after dinner to make this work. That's why they don't want your lounging in your room or poolside.

Yeah, I think this is the part that people are not factoring in. You are going to check in probably 4 pm or so, and be checked out by 11am a day and a half later. The main entertainment windows will be 4-10 that night, then 8-10 the next night. The rest of the time, the assumption will be that you are sleeping or at DHS. The cantina deal will probably be open all day. And you may have access to the other activities during the full day, but DHS is the "shore excursion". Now if you don't go to the park at all, you'll probably run out of things to do pretty quickly. The rooms are cruise ship rooms, but you are in them two nights and most of the time you should be exploring the hotel or park. That's probably also why it's only a 2 night experience. Any more than that and the weaknesses get exposed.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle people wanting to leave the hotel to go to a store or whatever, or even the other parks during their stay. Obviously on a cruise ship you couldn't do that, but I can't imagine this place will be like that even if it does break the story.

That’s why it’s only 2 days. I'm interested in how they're going to bundle these as packages? I assume that you'll be able to book a 2-day stay here then N-days at another resort so that you can actually do other parks.

There's a lot of logistics issues behind this that go beyond "What about guests that don't want to do cosplay."

I think I would be incredibly bored here. There's no way that small building has enough activities to keep me busy for 2 days. I also hate following an itinerary and I doubt the place is going to be free roaming. If I'm paying for a 2 day hotel experience then I don't count a Galaxy's Edge trip as an acceptable activity. I can go to that without staying at the hotel so it's not a value added benefit. So what is $1500 getting me? Access to a bar, meet n' greets, and interactive rooms filled with children? That doesn't sound like an appealing experience for that price. What am I missing here?

what if it's pouring rain during the day you are supposed to go to Galaxy Edge?
what if either ride is down?

I sure hope that you are guaranteed fastpass access to both rides, if not all rides at DHS , if you stay here.

As mentioned...the rooms look "cheap" for the prices they are going to be asking. When people pay that kind of money, they are expecting a LOT from their hotel room.
