Im starting to feel Kathleen Kennedy might get the axe after this one, this film is down about 20% compared to the previous TLJ. Still making tons of $ compared to other films, but there are different expectations for these. Someone is going get the can for this, I'm not rooting for anyone to be out of the job, but its the nature of the business. This certainly didn't unit the fan base like they hoped. Absolutely mindboggling these people can't make a somewhat coherent trilogy. Just awful and makes me think I could be a film maker.
merchandising and the other stuff will probably take a big hit. Toys were already having a decline and this will not help it. I dont think so.
i think these movies have put a negative mark on all the merch from this trilogy.
Why? because it is getting hate from both sides, fans of the original movies and people that hated last jedi are hating that this movie is just a big apology letter. people are mad that things are made on the spot.
fans of the last jedi and fans of the new trilogy are furious that Rose tico was not given a lot of screen time and people are mad that JJ tried to erase what the Last jedi did.... i can't see that many people wanting to buy star wars stuff for a while lol.
I’m going to keep repeating - the original trilogy had three directors. Rian wasn’t the problem. It was the fact that he was allowed to write the story for the movie as if this was his own original film. They needed an overarching vision and they would’ve been fine.
getting directors to make movies that have an outline and have one person behind it is no problem. marvel proves that this works well.
Rian was brought back to not only direct but to help make the story.
Colin wanted to keep Luke alive for episode 9 but Kennedy didn't like that, And Rian came and got rid of Luke by the end of it. Rian was just not the director. he had a lot of input into the movie.
I remember a behind the scenes clip where the costume and set designers would mention ideas or things for specific scenes like the casino planet scenes (the way stuff could work) and Rian would say he wanted to subvert expectations and he Literally would go against what the other people would suggest. Rian literally wanted to make a movie that subverted the expectations of the audience by going the opposite way of how a star wars movie was supposed to be....
So they hire Rian Johnson, he takes everything JJ set up and tosses it out the window and then has another director (initially Colin Trevorrow) to clean it up....yes, brilliant plan.
It would have been better if Rian was tasked with Ep 8 and 9, so at least we could get more of an idea of what he was going for by tossing out all of the ideas from Ep 7, but no, instead he's got the middle film and left another poor person to clean it up.

I seriously dont understand how they hired Rian for episode 8 but did not get him for episode 9 but instead they gave him his own trilogy?
how does that make sense? how is that even rational? he makes the second movie of the main Skywalker Trilogy, does not get hired for episode 9, but he gets hired for 3 more movies???? WHAT? lol.....
None of that was fully Rian’s fault though. Kathy wanted to give them artistic freedom instead of a rough story outline which bit them in the behind.
I know everything that's happening in TROS. I'm responding from the position RJ was in when he made TLJ. The "Palpatine's behind it all" conceit was just not a thing at the time. JJ just decided to bring him back when he came back to episode IX.
And you can be sad that Admiral Ackbar died. But holding it as some great injustice is hilarious.
Again, you can not like TLJ all you want. I'm just responding to the idea that RJ was being malicious when he made his movie. He wasn't. He was just answering the questions (of which there were NO ANSWERS at the time) the best he saw fit. People can not like it all they want, but making up this idea that RJ came in and spat in JJ's face or something just isn't true.
is not that Rian was being malicious, I don't think he made anything with that kind of mindset.
Honestly it just feels like he didn't care for The Force Awakens or didn't care for what JJ set up. it feels like Rian thought "well the Force awakens is just like a remake of a New Hope, and JJ set up all these plot points, But i think I just want to make a movie that will Subvert Expectations and not be like your typical Star wars movie"
