State of USH - What's Next?

I recall looking back at Hollywoods' attendance during past decades. The impression I got was the parks' attendance really spiked when they opened big new attractions, more so than most other theme parks. But then, their attendance in the next year or two had a fairly large drop. Seemed like that was the parks' MO. Curious on whether that continues. Guess we'll see.

I think it will be lower then this year but I think they will easily make more money then years past because of selling the Early tickets for SNW and they seem to have more food/merch people want then a few years back.

I will say, that I plan cancel my AP next year after Chinese New Years, while compared to Disney the AP's are a good value...with nothing new coming next year. I can take some time off and save some cash until F&F is opening up. I also have friends that go AP's just for SNW this year and don't plan on renewing. So I think attendance will dip but they will still be rolling in dough, and the rumored new hard ticket event, I'm sure will help make up for not getting as many people in next year along with HHN next year I'm sure will be even more packed then this year...somehow

Wow, crazy that the first thing you think of when hearing about people making a living wage in a VERY EXPENSIVE state (and very expensive area of the state) is how much you will be paying for admission. If I knew TM's were making more money i'd happily pay more if that was the tradeoff that had to be made when I go.

Did you know that the minimum at UOR is higher than at USH by $2? This is soon to be $3 with Disney going up to an $18 minimum in December (which inevitably means UOR will increase). Florida is a state with no state income tax, gas is half the price as California, and housing (while the prices have skyrocketed) is still cheaper. In Florida I couldn't live off of a $15 minimum anymore, I couldn't imagine trying to have to do it in California.

$25/hour is more than fair to keep up with cost of living.

The minimum wage is not $15 if I am doing your math correctly. And the entry level jobs on the USH website are posting this: "The starting pay rate for this role is $18.00. After 1000 working hours, the rate would increase to $20.00." So USH employees are also starting at $18, the same as UOR, if I am reading your post correctly.

I brought this up before, and we can be re-directed if needed. But what is a living wage. In your opinion it is $25. I respect that. You do understand then that everything else will increase also and then $25 is no longer a "living wage." In addition with all the entry level salary increases, supervisors and managers will need to be paid more. There always needs to be a pay difference between entry level and management, otherwise why take on the management position.

Rent is going up to matter what and wages need to keep up, it's another myth that if you raise the wage rent and items are going to go up...they go up no matter what. Wages aren't rising much right now...but rent, gas and theme parks cost more....so yeah just BS. Companies will raise prices if they can

Living wages are different in different parts of the country. Here in most of the midwest a living wage is significantly lower than in much of the northeast USA and Ca. A house in Pittsburgh that would sell for $50,000 to $75,000 sells for over $500,000 in most of the LA area. Even among highly paid there's a huge difference. A person making $100,000 a year in Pittsburgh can live quite comfortably with a nice car and a fairly large home. If you make a $100,000 in NYC Manhattan, you're living in a studio or one bedroom apartment (if you're not one of the lucky to have an ancient rent control apartment), and no car. Or you have non family roommates sharing. So we can't really compare living wage, unless the two areas are very similar economic and cost wise. Orlando and Anaheim/LA are kind of light years apart, even with the recent housing increases in Orlando.

Yes they did get a raise. I was simply responding to someone else who said they got $15 which was not true. But wages are a State of USH, which is what this thread is about.

I'm pretty sure this is more studio related, and not park related, but when I was driving into USH last night for HHN, I noticed off Lankershim Blvd, in front of the old Bank of America building (that's been vacant for years now), there is now what appears to be a duplicate USH globe in front, just like the one in the entry plaza for the park. It was tough to see because I was driving past it, and the area is still covered up by green tarp fences, but the top seemed pretty unmistakable.

A friend who is doing some consulting work there said it may turn into an employee drop off area.

Yes, it is part of the new entrances going on Lankershim. That is right next to the Lew Wasserman building, you can just barely see it on the right in this picture.

Would love to be wrong but besides HHN neat year (which is now soon), I don't think we will see them in the park unless they put the costumes up somewhere for people to see...or unless they make the old walking dead house into something
