Has there been any rumor on this being Pacific Rim?

Not that I know of. Mostly, It has been on Bourne or Bond, with Bourne most likely over Bond at this point.

Not like it matters, Pacific Rim: Uprising is going to need the help from overseas if it can stay afloat.

I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind the silence on this project. This isn't something that people would plan trips for and/or wait until it opens so the same logic that applies to the secrecy on the other attractions in development doesn't apply. Are they actively working on this or do they still have no idea what's replacing T2?

They knew what was going to replace it before T2 closed. It's being worked on. Calm down.

The signs have mainly pointed the T2 replacement to be Bourne.

I'm calm. I'm just curious about the reasoning behind the secrecy. Dripping info is common place in the industry for big projects but not something like this. I understand marketing something with pent-up demand like Potter or Star Wars requires careful teases and appropriate fanfare during minor announcements but this is an action stunt show replacing a small attraction. I'm not sure why people are acting like this is all normal. Twister closed and the same day, they announced exactly what was replacing it. Disaster closed in August 2015 and they announced the replacement the same day... THREE YEARS before opening. It's odd and I think calling it out as such is perfectly rational and reasonable on a discussion forum.

Since when is Ready Player One a Universal movie? It’s Spielberg, sure, but it’s still a WB movie. They specifically said “based on a Universal property”! Last time I checked, WB isn’t Universal. If Ready Player One does become an attraction, it’s going over to their park in Australia.

I think someone mentioned on the RP1 Ride thread that Amblin should in theory have the rights but I may be wrong. And that Warner/Amblin may be more willing to trust the people in charge of Diagon and Hogsmeade to throw around some ideas than an Australian Warner Brothers park that honestly should be classified as Australian Regional than anything else.

Also, if they would've had RP1 in mind for WBDubai before they began work on the indoor park, then that would've made sense.

To be honest though, and this does need to be brought up, why expand the armory for something like RP1?

WB produced the film alongside Amblin. They may make an agreement for them to license the ride to Universal but then that “Universal-based IP attraction” needs to be chucked out the window at this point. No one is judging ya guys.

Oh, I completely forgot about the Dubai park. I’m so ashamed.

It was me. And yes, Spielberg Amblin was the one who got the rights when Spielberg's wife read the book and told him he would like to do this property. Amblin is the majority rights holder for this project. WB signed on when they won it in an action before the book was even done and brought in Spielberg to help produce and distribute because they had a larger IP library to pull from for pop culture references than Universal but they required other studios IPs in particular Spielberg.

Last time Universal owns Back to the Future, Chucky, and a few other IPs. Not WB

lol. I guess my posts are coming off more dramatic than I mean for them to. The Parks division is just doing business a little differently than usual when it comes to announcements and communicating to the consumer for whatever reason and it applies to all projects big or small. There is also the possibility of them wanting to do a giant info-dump on all of these semi-announced projects with no details like Potter, T2 Replacement, and the Coastal Hotels in one big 2019 press release.

In terms of potential IP, the sticking point remains that one line in the press release saying it was going to be an action Universal property so it's either Bourne or that line was misleading/no longer accurate.

Sorry for coming off as harsh in my post. Is it possible something changed? Yes. Unlikely as the information has been constant.

We’re getting into Disney speculation territory, talking about films still in theaters that would be great additions to the parks... except, it usually doesn’t come that quickly (USH’s Jurassic Park being one large exception). Remember a few months ago, when Coco was a “sure thing” to go to Epcot?

Anything in theaters now would have a better shot at opening in the next decade, unless it’s attached to a larger franchise (like, say, Fantastic Beasts) or a quick conversion of an existing ride.

Most of the time I just joke to make things light...The announcement was extremely vague of Universal, but they seem to be very cautious with announcements and what to announce when...
