I nearly guarantee you that the story is a total fake. All of you have been correct in stating what was missing from his kooky story and the story faded off into blurry nothingness in the end. I absolutely know for a fact some of the things that are there, I even know what company built some of them, and they are ultra-highlights of the ride... yet, not mentioned at all. Perhaps he saw some of it and it broke down... but I doubt even that.

I hate frauds... I think they should be laid down on a slab, slowly cut open and their guts displayed for the crowds while still alive. Hmmm... what movie have I seen that in? It was Scottish!... just trying to keep to the HP theme.

Agree Teebin, but I knew it was fake the moment I read it. No COS, no Basilisk, no Willow, going from a screen dragon to a giant AA dragon, no dementor effect that has been rumored. Just nothing stood on solid ground.

Any news if an after hours TM preview is happenning tonight?

I have read what people are saying in regards to the TM preview of FJ today. Some doubt they would purposely shut down the ride? I would hope they tested the possibility of an outage with people actually on the ride.

Hopefully this might help explain the answer to *dhgt’s *qustion
They would have tested stopping at various points without riders but then test the areas they wanted to thought could be the reaction and evacuation of real riders. Think about it, when an office building or retail building undergoes renovations there is usually fire alarm testing, elevators are tested before opening them to the use of the public. Certain inspections require safety tests in order to obtain a permit of occupancy. If some of the tests pass but others do not there is a limited permit of occupancy such as times and number of people allowed in at one time.

As far as getting the TMs excited about a ride then disappointing them…they are employees and if this had happened with Guests it would have been Much worse for Guest Services (poor dears) and PR.

My guess is they don’t have to have FJ open until the 18th due to contract issues and maybe the contractors schedule shows this is how long it will take until the ride is completely functional. I would guess UO based their opening date on the scheduled date of completion and then added a few more days of float for permits and safety inspections. IF it is a contract issue and the date is now set in stone…every day after the 18th ,or contract finish date, the contractor will have to pay LDs (Late Delivery fines) which are usually an enormous amount of money per day specified in the contract.

I think Kickman77 is right too
I also see Vyrus is in agreement too

Did I happen to see a post a while back that stated that the package holders AND the onsite hotel guests would be let in? I got a package before a Harry Potter package was released, then was talked out of changing it by the reservation people. :\ Either way, I guess I will find out late next week!

This is what I was told as well when I called back after booking my hotel. I booked After the announcement. Guest Services said if you booked your on-site hotel room before March 25th 2010 and your stay at the hotel is before the Grand Opening you will get a Preview.

Felipe said:
I'd buy the ticket online (on Universal's website) where you can get a discount. I don't think they're date specific, but check.

Felipe - you can buy your ticket on line but make sure this person can print the ticket out or they will need to go to the ticket pick up anyway to pick up their ticket. I found my tickets on line but had to buy them over the phone and then was told they would be ready to pick up at the booth when I arrived. This was back in February! I thought for sure they would have had enough time to Mail my tickets. Maybe they wanted to make sure they didn’t get lost/stolen in the mail due to my vacation time frame???

Sorry this was sooo long. It just took me sooo long to read everything that has been posted since I last read.

More than likely that was for the footage in his moving portrait since it is confirmed he is there.

Colleendoll,

You are perceptive. I'd say Hogsmeade is quite ready for many hours of meandering by some crowds, but not full onslaught. FJ still has a lot of kinks. Remember, today was the first time a 'crowd' has been accommodated at all. I can confirm that most cycles were interrupted, but were continued (not evac'd) unlike previous cycling with riders. So, they are getting better all the time. The longer we wait for our first ride on FJ, the better the quality.

Has anyone else heard that the full Hogwarts queue is designed for an average 5-6 hour wait? Whaaaa?

Ok... I am going to show you simple code that will mean nothing to you... but it is an example of the kind of code is running this ride. What you want to look for are the "if" statements. On FJ, the number of "if" and "elseif" statements are going to be over the top... This is for safety and testing. Once they see WHY the machines are showing errors and shutting down, they will either widen the latitude of the if/elseif statements, or remove them completely if they decide it isn't a serious factor. If this or any of the latest rides shut down, it is because something didn't answer the "if" clause the way that it should. Look for the if/elseif/else statements. Sorry to get technical...

That is insane if that is the case. I heard the DD queue was built for waits that long as well, so UO is expecting big crowds for these two rides.

Teebin, I'm in a Java class, so that is really sparking my interest right now, haha.

Okay, I can conclude that this is the basic UI for a TM that is 'wishing' to override the FJ system. Basically, it asks for a given username and password, and receives an input that is what the TM 'wishes'. This code is primary stuff, so it essentially only starts here, and branches off into different codes that calculate the best Evac plan for the ride vehicle if the TM wishes to shut down the ride. Very interesting.

Did they offer to mail them? maybe they just assumed you would want to pick em up at the gate to avoid further costs of shipping, but I'm sure they can even send them to you next day if you're willing to pay for it. (You can get them mailed to you if you purchase them online too) Right now online they offer $10 off gate prices on multiday tickets, so it's worth it! That's a couple of frozen butterbeers per ticket right there! And also a heads up to FL residents, you can only get FL resident price for tickets online.

It is perl. But the idea is the same for most languages. Most of them have if/else/elseif statements.

So, in a nutshell, 2-4 computers on each vehicle telling it what to do and reporting back to the main computer what it is doing and where it is. Main also send messages back to each vehicle that it either likes or dislikes what it is doing. So, in code talk: if (everything is fine with your vehicle and it is reporting well) keep going. if (something sucks with one vehicle and it has stopped even though all the others are still moving, please kill all vehicles)

Sorry if some of you thought that was a waste of space. But I was trying to impress upon you how very very complicated this is. Every scene has multiple computers, each vehicle has multiple computers and they all have to report back to one computer that calls the ultimate shots. I was just trying to tell you that this is not child's play at all. There are programmers going over code like crazy asking, "Do we need this/that?" They are parsing the code bigtime.
