There's a relatively set distance of time between each bench. Once they take off, they increase their lateral speed on the busbar. That's the basis of the ride.

Now, amongst all the vehicles on the track, there are certain preset spaces between the benches that are large enough for one bench to fit into. That's where the special needs bench comes in.

Along the long track used for unloading and loading people on the ride, there is one parallel to it. The two join and then split off at the first projection screens with gaps on the track that can electronically reroute the wheels of the vehicle to either split away from the track or join the main one.

As it stands, the spaces for the benches can be added or subtracted with a temporary show stop. That's why the smaller stops are so frequent. Also, the system works in direct concordance to the space between two vehicles. Stops therefore occur if the mechanics of a vehicle cause it to get ahead from the flow.

So yeah. Basically what JungleSkip said.

Have you ever been waiting to board FJ and noticed a large gap between benches? That gap is left by the bench on the stationary load side. When the group on the stationary side is loaded properly and ready to go, their bench crawls to the end of it's platform and waits for it's gap to return. When it's proper space returns, it matches up with it and joins right in where it should, with no slowing down of any other benches. The guests start right into the floo network sequence and then the bench returns to the secondary station during the final floo network.

Yep this sounds closest to what was explained to me overnight! There are no preset spaces as any vehicle can be directed in to secondary at any time, creating a space. They then have approximately 5 minutes to unload/load until their space comes back around. So much more logical and linear than my mind was trying to make it. Thank you to the private message sender! It read like war and peace but I LOVE that.

I'm gonna come out of my usual lurker-mode and explain some parts of Secondary, 'cause you all seem interested:

There's space for four benches, each with its own wall sconce behind/above it that flashes when dispatched (you can see it's lit in the picture). When a bench is needed the attendant asks a control booth operator to send them one. The CBO will pick one that's usually somewhat close to the end of the ride and manually change its dispatch from Primary to Secondary. The bench comes to the spot closest to the far end of the platform. It stops, lowers down and the attendant unlocks the harnesses and directs the confused muggles to the elevator.

After the loading is done for this bench the attendant will tag the bench appropriately using their RFID tag (green for Primary, blue for Secondary), and asks for the CBO to tell them when to dispatch. Unlike the Primary station that automatically dispatches as long as the vehicle is tagged, at Secondary once they get the word the attendant places their RFID tag on a black receptor that is disguised as a part of the mirror directly across from the bench.

If four benches are parked at Secondary, any others will just back up behind them on the part of the platform that is not accessible by the attendant.

Ok take it for a grain of salt but when I was at Universal Studios last month I was asking an employee about the new expansion and he said that half will be Harry Potter and the other half will be the Transformers ride but again take this for a grain of salt

 The team members know just about as much as we do. Just rumors, and not a very well-founded one at that.

Experienced my first stop on Forbidden Journey yesterday. It was during the quidditch scene. we were tilted kind of downwards, not all too uncomfortable, for about 5 minutes. The image on the screen went sideways for some reason. Within the dome you could hear the people in the bench with you talking as if they were talking into your ear, the acoustics are so good. After 5 minutes the vehicles started moving again. The motion simulation was working in the rest of the quidditch scene but the video was still stuck in place and sideways. Pretty nauseating. After that the rest of the ride worked fine. Also, besides that mishap, on both my rides yesterday every effect was working fine except that the faces on the soul-suck effect were not those of my bench.

The only way I could see that is if they finally remove Fear Factor and put Transformers in there if it fits.

The person working on HP 2.0 has posted on WDWM again. This time he says he is hearing that Universal is moving fast with plans for SS44, as he describes it: the new attraction to replace Herc/Xena. He also mentions of talk about an attraction to go between MIB and Simpsons, which I know has been talked about before (and rumored to be a possible spot for Transformers), as well as the KidZone Project.

Universal going to be busy, busy, busy.

I want his job LOL.

The money Comcast is pumping into Orlando is unprecedented.

This is the DCA project in Orlando without the fanfare, IMO.

Same for me, too, when I went on the 8th.

Anyone going to WWoHP for its 2nd anniversary tomorrow? I have to miss it again (missed the 1st one last year, too). =/
