If you believed everything you read on the internet then the Chupacabra does exist, Bigfoot is living in the mountains of Tennessee, and Disney IS building an Avatar land at DAK :stunned::pound: Ziiiiing!

Unless you think the Securities and Exchange Commission is posting bogus contracts, I'd give it a little more weight.

Well, I think I know how Disney could pull this off in a rather dirty way without paying Universal...

First of all, let me say that there is no way Universal is getting rid of Marvel. There is too much risk and cost involved for both parties. Downtime of the land for Universal and the risk undertaken when they can sit idly by and improve the surrounding areas and capitalize off the superhero boom.

The way Disney does Universal is already laid out methinks... Disney has updated and rebooted many of the characters present at IOA, even the comic books have been rebooted (there are now gay characters and new backstories, correct?) so now all the characters have new "i) basic story line, (ii) the powers, (iii) basic personality traits, (iv) physical appearance (including clothing or costume)."
Universals characters are no longer abiding by the rules of the contract and are not representative of the characters current situations. This is a violation of contract unless there is some reference of the use of legacy stories, powers, personality traits, etc. Maybe someone who knows the contract better than I can comment on this.

They are all still derivative characters based in a portrayal. There is also the heavy basis in the 90s cartoons which, while no longer in production, do continue to exist. Different interpretations and the multiverse existed well before 1994.

Doesn't say it has to be a "current" storyline.

If it was that simple it would have already been done. The characters, and the stories, don't change that much to make a difference. But what do I know.

I think you're on and off. Superhero Island has always been separate from the 616 Universe as far as I know, so technically the characters at IOA are individual. No matter what happens in the current Marvel Universe especially with Marvel NOW, IOA would always be separate. So Disney can't take them down for not having current characters because the alternate universe card is in play.

Okay, I'll squash this:

Disney can't get Marvel back unless they pay Uni for it or Uni decides to give it up.

End. Of. Line.

Just thinking out loud here. Say they sold Marvel back to Disney. Wouldn't it be better to retheme Marvel to a Sci-Fi land and then build a 3rd park around ALL the DC Universe characters? One land would be Gotham, another Metropolis. Another Center City, etc. Each land based on the city each Super Hero is from. I always said this is where Six Flags has failed with the DC characters and themes. In Great Adventure we have two Batman rides in Movie City, then Green Lantern and Superman at the Boardwalk section with Bizarro in Frontierland or whatever it is called. Makes no sense at all. I have faith Universal Creative could do a 3rd park based on DC and do it 100% right, giving it the justice (league) it deserves.

No. Universal needs a third park just as much as Disney needs a fifth one.

AKA Not at all.

So, at the risk of finding spoilers, I did my research, and now understand about the lift. Sorry for the confusion before. I'm heading out to California soon and didn't want to know anything spoiler-ish before riding. That is really, really awesome.

Anyone know how much an empty EVAC/Scoop weighs? Are there any significant differences between EVAC and Scoop?

EDIT: Thinking back on an interview with Scott Trowbridge, I think I remember him saying 7.5 tons. Does that sound right?

Yeah, maybe they'd build something in Disneyland.

I love Disney. And that's why I don't want them to have the rights. I don't want to hate them for ruining Marvel in Orlando

Well, Disney CAN go ahead and build whatever the heck they want to in all of their resorts around the globe, just not WDW. :ears:

I know. Take care of what they have first. At least Universal/Comcast is doing that. :)

So with two stories of a very visible exterior, is it safe to say this is going to stay very soundstage-like on the outside? Theming around the entrance only?

I'm assuming skyline murals around the majority of the building.

Theming all sides in an appropriate manner for the area it faces would cost a zillion dollars, unless they used huge photo prints.

I only truly expect New York facades facing New York and a NEST facility theme facing the lagoon.

I think we'd be lucky to get any real facades at all.

I'd imagine it will be less...extreme then that.

And even then...it really doesn't bother me.
