Yeah, maybe they'd build something in Disneyland.

I love Disney. And that's why I don't want them to have the rights. I don't want to hate them for ruining Marvel in Orlando :lol:

You know...I actually would have faith in them developing a cool Avengers ride for DHS. It's a gazillion dollar franchise. They'll be licking their lips to build it.

I have 100% faith WDI could design a Carsland-level Marvel experience. I also trust that TDO could turn it into Hulk bumper cars, an Iron Man spinner, and an Avengers omnimover.

I object. The rooms are pretty much the same dimensions and nearly the same layout. I get confused easily. I think I am in the Boardwalk rooms when I'm really in Wilderness Lodge. :) LoL.

Yep, I listened to that show. I too think Transformers would make for a great replacement for T2. I don't however agree with that Scott guy that Disney is a step closer to gaining the Marvel rights in Orlando. I would never say they would never get them back, but why would Universal want to? Only a huge sum of money would convince Universal and even that may not do it. They hold the cards to Marvel's hottest properties in Orlando and there is nothing Disney can do about it. Unless Disney wants to pay for the retheme of Marvel Super Hero Island and then some. I don't see Disney doing that. But I have been wrong before. :)

Well I might have overreacted with the whole Disney getting closer to Marvel thing. Since Spiderman is the main force behind Marvel at Universal, I thought Transformers making Spiderman look like a kiddie ride would make Universal think about the future of Marvel. I now realize how silly this is, because Marvel is such a huge draw at Universal and it always will be. And personally I don't think Marvel fits well with Disney in the first place. So that's my bad, and I will take "your an idiot" comments. Besides like Parkscope says as long as the theming is different, no one will care about same ride systems....

......But then again who knows.

I do not know why they let him spew out that nonsense. They know the terms of the contract and that Marvel is not going anywhere unless Disney pushes a ton of cash at Universal.

Just playing Devil's advocate here, but maybe all this talk of expansion, construction, and whatnot; is due to Disney paying off Uni a vast amount of money for the Marvel rights.

I think a purchase of that size would require rather quick disclosure. Shareholders and analysts were not too keen on the price The Walt Disney Company paid for Marvel Entertainment. I think essentially further increasing that price (I really don't think asking for $1 billion would be out of line) would be a serious matter of concern to investors.

To be honest with all of you, IF and a big IF Disney would pony up the cash to buy the rights, UO has a VERY easy fallback with the Florida rights to the DC comic series, and all of the rides can EASILY be converted to the DC-verse and not lose much of its appeal.

Hulk = Superman
Spiderman = Batman
Storm Force = Wonder Woman
Doom = Lex Luthor

The heroes on the trikes are replaced with the Justice League

Now with that out of the way thought, we need to :focus:

It would be pretty killer if they announce the ride this week at Comic-con

In all seriousness, I think if Disney ponied up the cash for the Marvel rights and Uni got the rights for DC in Florida, the lineup would be more like this:

Hulk = Green Lantern
Doom = Joker
Storm Force = Flash
Spidey = Bats
New attraction = Supes

Uni apparently was considering expanding Marvel with Iron Man before Disney bought Marvel. So I think the Islands would get an expansion if it happened.

I am still not entirely sold on the story that Disney squashed an Iron Man attraction. That would have brought the two into arbitration as Marvel, at least in 1994, maintains written guidelines. Just saying "No" would be a denial of their contractual rights. Not to mention that Marvel themselves still seem just fine with Marvel Super Hero Island and such a move could potentially alienate them. If anything, I think the Iron Man Stark Industries advertisement in The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man was made more prominent as a sort of snide to make it clear that these characters are at Universal and will be staying.

I think Universal would give up the marvel rights easier than most think.
Universal/comcast is investing millions in HP 2.0 that Disney will get a cut of all Train riders tickets going to IOA
because of Marvel contract.So Uni would have to give Disney $5.00 for every rider on the hogwarts express.

Marvel does not get a percentage of gate receipts. Only a flat licensing fee every year and a % of the Marvel merchandise sold in the park.

As for the Iron Man attraction, I don't think it was Disney that squashed the idea. More than Universal moved on from the idea after Disney bought Marvel.

Within the 10 years, you would be right. However, after the 10 years, they need a sign-off of approval. Only thing that was excluded was updates/refurbs to existing rides so they can do as they wish.

Where did you get ten years from? I just did a quick search for "ten," "10," and "years" in the contract and see nothing about a ten year time frame. Approval was always required. Section VI. C. even gives some basis for what constitutes “'reasonable' rights for rejection".

MARVEL AGREEMENT BETWEEN MCA INC. AND MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP said:
Whenever Marvel has “reasonable” rights for rejection of approval hereunder, the basic criteria to be used by Marvel may include inconsistency with (i) basic story line, (ii) the powers, (iii) basic personality traits, (iv) physical appearance (including clothing or costume), and/or (v) living habitat or environment relating to such character as portrayed in Marvel’s exploitation of such character in comic books or other products for the particular time period being depicted by MCA.

How does the Spidey upgrade play into all of this? Surely Comcast would not have invested that kind of money into a jeopardized attraction. The only thing I can think of is that the Spidey upgrade was a playtest of sorts for TF.

Maybe I am wrong I thought Marvel got % of the gate @ IOA in the contract.
(after all I read it on the internet)

If you believed everything you read on the internet then the Chupacabra does exist, Bigfoot is living in the mountains of Tennessee, and Disney IS building an Avatar land at DAK :stunned::pound: Ziiiiing!

Meh. We don't have anything else to talk about until we get more construction updates or an announcement. And the subject is tangential to Transformers.

Well, I think I know how Disney could pull this off in a rather dirty way without paying Universal...

First of all, let me say that there is no way Universal is getting rid of Marvel. There is too much risk and cost involved for both parties. Downtime of the land for Universal and the risk undertaken when they can sit idly by and improve the surrounding areas and capitalize off the superhero boom.

The way Disney does Universal is already laid out methinks... Disney has updated and rebooted many of the characters present at IOA, even the comic books have been rebooted (there are now gay characters and new backstories, correct?) so now all the characters have new "i) basic story line, (ii) the powers, (iii) basic personality traits, (iv) physical appearance (including clothing or costume)."
Universals characters are no longer abiding by the rules of the contract and are not representative of the characters current situations. This is a violation of contract unless there is some reference of the use of legacy stories, powers, personality traits, etc. Maybe someone who knows the contract better than I can comment on this.
