" A Universal representative named Justin Matthew called me today and informed me that they reviewed the footage and the ban has been lifted and the $200 fine has been dropped. There was no “intent to steal or concealment” of the gloves so the incident never should have happened. "

Looks like the situation is taken care of..

That’s nice and all, but why wouldn’t review the footage BEFORE banning and kicking a paying customer out of the park?

That’s the real question.

I’m assuming this is only happening because of the bad PR. If it happens again, it sounds like it will be more of the same unless the guest does the same thing.

My guess is the family never sets foot on Universal property again.

Universal security doesn't mess around. They used to be very very tough on the bloggers. Myself, Bob (who used to be around here), and a few others have dealt with them before. Seems like recently they've let up on the bloggers though.

Yeah. I think they're finally realizing the positive value of social media. Sure was a shame how they tried to muscle you & what they did to Bob (though he's back on the allowed in the park list now).

Because they can't?

I'm not going to defend this at all but like asking Universal to review footage ASAP isn't available usually to companies. It's stored in hours long blocks, at best.

Well I worked in retail about 20 years ago; and had really crappy quality video cameras and I was able to pull footage Almost instantly on VHS tapes of shoplifters

To say that UOR who likely has state of the art camera/survelence equipment 20 years later, doesn’t have this same ability is greatly undermining their technical abilities.

I mean I could install a retail security system and have instant video.

There is no need to defend UOR here. They admitted they were wrong. So yeah, they made a mistake.

Especially a company the size of operation Universal is running.

I’m sure they could do it if absolutely necessary, but something like that would probably be reserved for only big issues.

Still doesn’t defend the incident.

Yeah I hate it when people promote my business for free on social media - jerks is what they are

Threads like this are why Universal hates social media.

But we have stated that Universal did what they could to correct the mistake.

I still bet that that family will not be visiting again.

Eh...... I'm siding with Universal because I'm in the Security field myself. But it should be more 'Human' interaction in these situations. IDK these are always tough, trust me.

I agree that even as far as taking her for questioning and checking if there was anything else stolen isn’t a bad protocol.

HOWEVER, once you find out they meant no ill will and this was purely a mistake, escorting someone from property and banning them for a year seems like a tad much, no?

And some others will never visit too. That's the ultimate take away.

Theres no way anyone can blame anyone here because no one knows the whole story. If her story is 100% accurate, Uni is in the wrong. If, when confronted, she started screaming in the sidewalk, cussing, and started making threats, Uni's response is justified. We can make assumptions, but no one can say who is in the wrong accurately here. We can only make assumptions. The situation has been resolved, so nothing else of any substance will likely ever be added to this topic.

I dont agree with the banning for a year. I think in this case, it's a bit much, but I am glad security is doing their job no matter what UNIVERSAL themselves decide employees enforcing rules and policies is what I like to see to sustain order. But thats an entirely different direction lol

If this happened to me, I’d never visit the parks again, that’s for sure. I’d also tell everyone I know. I just wouldn’t post a video on social media, these are different times I guess.

Then again, they are Potter fans. If Universal gave them some comp rooms and tickets for their next trip as compensation, they would probably visit again.

No doubt they would. She’s in multi level marketing too. Theyd do anything for free.

Long story short: Universal Security used to harass pretty much anyone taking photos of construction and some got banned over it. Even just regular tourist types this would happen to.
