Thanks all.
I was thinking a creature version of Jaws... which just reminds me how much I miss Jaws in Orlando.

You should be jailed for this opinion. Creature boat ride is vastly superior addition than a completely off theme addition that just includes flats

I also think a Creature boat ride would be boring as hell (which - my conspiracy brain thinks - is one of the reasons it was cut from the opening lineup). The slow pace of a water-propelled ride means it needs either whimsy (Small World, Dudley, Splash, Pirates) or scale (Jurassic Park, Jaws, Shanghai Pirates). If you look at rides that aren’t whimsical or grand in scale (Pandora, Living with the Land), they become incredibly niche, forgotten attractions that don’t really move the needle.

Gilman, as a human-sized creature trapped in a love story, doesn’t really have scale and, unless they go a more satirical route a la “Creature from the Black Lagoon: The Musical,” doesn’t have whimsy. If they DO go the satirical route, it runs counter to the tone of the rest of the land. At that point, Scooby would be a more popular IP to base an expansion on, and a couple of flats would potentially have higher capacity than a boat ride.

I think you can substitute an eerie, spooky ambiance for whimsy very easily, and punctuate that with some intimate (i.e. close to the boat) encounters with the Creature.

Also, "boring" is entirely subjective. I love rides that are atmospheric.

If it were up to me, i would rather than evolve the boat ride to a more sensory based experience....ALIEN encounter meets Popeyes meets Jungle Cruise.

His goal in the first movie entirely was to destroy the team until he fell in love with Kay, then his goal was to do what it takes to kidnap her and take it to the lair.

Second movie also involves Gillman in Florida trying to kidnap a girl. So why not create that feeling and vibe inside an attraction. And also why not expand the concept to include monsters from the regions.

So if I was UC, the concept would be an indoor boat ride with rapids and a sensory based restraint that invokes sounds, smell, and touch. Humaniod remains with aquatic features were discovered by Dr Frankenstein's great great great grand daughter and you are part of the expedition team to discover them but it won't be an easy journey as you will be traveling through an expedition through the Carribean, Central America and South America to find him. Due to the roughness of the journey, our boat has been fitted with harnesses to keep us safe as we will be traveling fast through turbelent waters and seas. (these harnesses hold the tech for the smells, sounds, and touch).

While on your expedition, you experience rapids and storms as for face the following: La Luscha (Carribean Monster) El Encantado (Brazilian Legend), El Caleuche (Famous Chilean Story about a ghost Ship)....adding these legends add to the ambiance and expands the ride story so you feel like you actually traveled. (Pirates of the Caribbean Shanghai meets Popeyes is the feel here.)

Once you reach the black Lagoon on a dark night things are calm but in the distant you see the creature and he is staring at the boat looking for one of the guests for he/she/it has fallen in love. We hear movement in the water but we can't see it aside from a light glow. The boat rocks gently almost as if someone was climbing aboard. Wet footsteps can be heard, then through randomization, a few people on the boat start feeling a slightly wet claw on their shoulders and a weird growl in their ears. We hear footsteps but we can't see the creature as he moves. We smell the light stink of seaweed get stronger as he gets closer to you and then from a cloud the moon comes out and there is a creature AA on the boat up close. He attacks, he lunges as the cloud blacks out the moon. We feel him touch us and move through the boat through the harness and other sensory tools. Our captain tries to protect us and we are left to our senses about what happened as we just hear gunfire/ flashes of lights from the gunfire and feel water "blood" hit us. We hear a splash in the lagoon and see a figure swim off in the distance as the sun begins to rise.

As the sun rises, we see the aftermath. There small trail of blood. from the inside of our boat leading to the edge. We travel back to our launch location with a fear in our hearts about what happened in the black lagoon.

This sounds amazing. I would be much more content with the Wolfman show being sacrificed if it meant getting this.

Of course what Universal is envisioning is probably much, much different, but I still hope that one day this land can see its own darker, AE-style attraction.

Since this is rumored to be a town that’s aware of the Monsters, I really want the ride to have a skipper, then of course, something goes wrong.

Creature has returned, is annoyed by the guests, and tries to destroy our boat. Jungle Cruise, Great Movie Ride, Pirates, Jaws… all in 1.

While little things could make or break a Creature a ride the idea is a relative safe bet imo. I don’t want them to overthink it too much.

The alien encounter boat ride idea sounds insane and awesome!
I read that Universal Studios bought the right of a comic called: "The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft" in 2009. On IMDB the thing is still in development. But what if the boat ride was based on Lovecraft's worlds. I know it isn't classic monster but the name of the land is Dark Universe so it could be anything.

I just want a 10-minute dark ride at EU. That'll be the icing on the cake.

Agreed. 100%. Creature is our best chance too imo.

The Potter ride I could see being long. At the least the whole experience if there’s a solid pre show it could end up being 10 minutes. Rise is what, 17 in total? I can see shorter but same vibes.

I imagine Potter/MoM is essentially Jurassic World (Beijing) with a different IP. Look at that for your frame of reference.

Essentially, yea. But with a beefier ride vehicle that does a little more. Screens and AAs, without 3D glasses, yea, very much inspired by success of JW Adventure's design.

HP Lovecraft is "problematic"-- they could easily base an attraction on his writings, but I doubt you'll ever see his name attached.

It would be funny if they actually have the skipper disappear or fall overboard after the ride vehicle/boat gets attacked by the creature the first time

We still don't know THAT much about the main attraction, so who really knows.

Would like to revise my suggestion of glass bottom boats to a virtual glass bottom boats. Using LED screens they can show the creature swimming underneath the boat, clawing at the glass, have the boat rock side to side from attacks by the creature (not to severe or people will be rocked off the side into the water)

I like the glass bottom concept in theory, but in execution, I think either a "real" or screen version could be hard to pull off, especially if, as we've speculated, the ride might be a rather dark experience (in terms of illumination).

Two things…

1. All of the Lord of the Rings talk…is that still just chatter from last year?

2. Scooby Doo boat ride with Gillman. You know that’s money.
