Yep, with streaming-only, you've got to pay the talent the equivalent of the points they'd be asking for on a theatrical release gross, and that gets rolled into the budget. During the pandemic, studios had to do what they had to do to get projects out on streaming, but I don't see this as being a sustainable model for the long term. How do you justify that amount of money for the third KNIVES OUT movie? Where's the spreadsheet or equation proving that the studio is making a profit on the film based on new subscribers subscribing just to watch it? It can't possibly exist, because it's silly.Well, that's probably reflective of how much they're giving up not giving it a full theatrical release, and how much value it provides to Netflix. Therefore, lot's of huge upfront payments.
A movie with likely extremely limited special effects, a 10-12 person cast, should never cost this much.Are we all Netflix shareholders here?
