What if everything under the ride vehicle is some kind of screen? Adding a huge amount of depth to the surroundings. It would make it seem like were up hundreds of feet when we're not. Again just ideas

I feel like no matter how great the tech is, a screen is a screen. I don't think anything can match the realism of a set. Maybe they can use the screen at the end of a set to make it appear longer or deeper, but having the whole ground as a screen won't work.

(I heard that's what lacked in transformers, real sets)

Haven't you guys noticed that the greatest rides mostly use real sets. Radiator springs racers, mystic manor, Spider-Man, etc.

I just prefer sets.

Well spiderman uses like 12 screens though. Forbidden journey has quite a few too. Gringotts will have sets 5 stories tall according to HTF. I could do without 3D but I have faith in them. I think using screens to add depth to the sets would be really effective. In all dark rides the world seems so short, if that makes sense. Like the ceiling is always a ton of dark ventilation ducts and the ground is always one big shadow. Hard or impossible to avoid I know but maybe to some extent it could be minimized through projections and/or screens. Again im just talking

I personally believe that if you can make something feel more real and consistent with a screen, especially if that thing is a massive fictional world, then that's the way to go. Rarely are dark rides good without some sort of special effect, especially fast themed coasters. The screens make it feel extensive and like whole other world.

Trust me though, I love the old fashioned way, but just like anything it's very black and white to thinks it's always the best way. It's a grey zone where tech combination is key, and experience has shown that emersion adds more realism than anything.

In Spiderman, it's very cartoony looking, but I rarely feel the transition from the real sets to the CG world. When inside the CG world, it feels real because you become apart of it, despite the style being far from it.

Gringotts will feel real, have both screens AND sets, and the effects and visuals will be top-notch. The 3D will only help push the screens closer to reality, and I'm sure the glasses, over other rides, will be cleverly explained in-story either as protective goggles or a Harry Potter disguise.

TLDR: Everything that everyone has said already.

I don't really mind the screens in Universal parks. It's kinda their thing. Disney's thing is AAs, Universal's is film tech. Universal Studios in general is mostly thought of as a movie company. I know, Disney is a movie company. But even by the time Disneyland had opened Disney was also TV and heavy merchandising of the characters from the shorts with toys, comic books, collectibles, etc. But Universal is a movie company first and foremost.

When Universal first jumped into the theme park game they tried to compete with Disney with AA heavy dark ride with E.T., Jaws, and Kongfromtation. But Universal was always going to be #2 in that game. But since T2:3D, Disney has been trailing behind at blending scene to screen. And Spider-man threw down the gloves. Since then Universal has been playing their own game.

that's a really good point. they are both good at their own things, but wouldn't it be interesting to see universal attempt a AA heavy attraction now? I wonder how it would compare to Disney?

Agreed, I love Universal's rides, but I'd love to see a new AA heavy ride in both parks.

Now, now... Do we know for sure Gringotts won't be chock full of AAs? :inquisitive: I know it's a 3D ride, but who's to say we won't have AAs in the mix?
