Probably best to make a pros and cons list:

F&F:
Pros
  • It could lead to the closure of Supercharged
  • It would lend itself to a faster and more extreme coaster
  • It might lead to a Ghostbusters dark ride elsewhere
  • Saves money by using a similar system to Hollywood
Cons
  • Thematically doesn't make sense
  • Feels like a dying IP

Ghostbusters:
Pros
  • Makes thematic sense for the NY area and reusing the fire station entrance
  • Might be the only chance for a Ghostbusters ride
  • Timeless IP that is possibly in a resurgence
  • Personally, I just want a Ghostbusters ride
Cons
  • More family friendly, which would mean a more family friendly coaster
  • IP doesn't lend itself to a roller coaster
  • F&F Supercharged could stay longer

I'm totally fine with this being a F&F coaster, it's what I kinda' expected and that's a theme that'll work just fine as an outdoor coaster. (I'm in the boat with @belloq87 that something like GB is better suited for a dark ride or show.)

I mean, yeah, I tend to agree, but if we’re being honest, as much as we want it, what are the REALISTIC CHANCES ghostbusters gets that actually. Armchair designer aside. That’s why I’m hoping for it, because I don’t know if ghostbusters will get another shot. I hope that it does, because it is very merchandisable, and they’ve been using the property a lot in hhn and the parade and Fireworks show and I’d absolutely hate if that’s the end of it.

I think regardless whether RRR gets rethemed to F&F or not, Supercharged is staying for the foreseeable future. I don't see them getting rid of it for another 3-4 years

And as for there being two F&F attractions when it opens, I honestly don't mind since I don't even bother with Supercharged in the first place. The closest thing is using the queue for HHN and that's it. No point in fretting over two F&F attractions if I'm only going on one of them, that and Supercharged is eventually getting replaced down the line so it's all pretty moot.

If they are smart and are thinking big picture, they know they need a better F&F experience, as they royally screwed up in Orlando porting over the studio tour version.

I don’t think having two rides is an issue. Specifically if they open the coaster, then close the other one shortly after.

Right, and this new coaster likely won’t be open until… early 2027, maybe?

Bye bye supercharged.

the new ride should be a sequel to supercharged story wise.
have vin diesel drop from that helicopter drone and land on a car with jet engines like a plane car that shoots out into the coaster .

Eh, if there’s no immediate plans I don’t doubt it’ll stick around. We still have Star Tours, after all.

Fast and Furious is not even remotely to the level of Star Wars. IMO not a fair comparison although I get your point.

Definitely, but I’m not sure the strength of the IP is a huge factor. In general I don’t think having two attractions of the same IP places a pressure on the weaker attraction — it just makes it easier to get rid of once the need arises.

I really, really want a Ghostbusters attraction, but putting the Ghostbusters logo on a majority outdoor coaster isn't a Ghostbusters attraction - its an outdoor coaster with a Ghostbusters logo.

People hate FnF largely because of the mismatch between ride system and IP. This would be a significantly bigger ride system/ IP mismatch. At least the FnF mismatch is in a direction that allows for the characters to appear throughout.

Funny example because Jurassic World is themed to…a theme park.

Ghostbusters is about a bunch of schlubby guys who start a business.

Not seeing the parallel here at all.

The Ghostbusters Spooktacular show (at least the second version with the updated preshow) had a plot line where they were franchising the ghost busting business and looking for franchisees. It was a clever excuse to invite a large group of guests into the Firehouse, (us,) for a demonstration.

If people always say something doesn’t work because it’s not represented in the media, I always remember how creatively theme park designers can invent a scenario to make it make sense.

The Simpsons Ride was originally going to take place in the Nuclear Power Plant, until Sheerer wasn’t available due to, reasons, so they completely rewrote the concept to take place as Krustyland, which honestly, works better in my mind. But they still needed the excuse to do the giant Maggie gag. What did they do? Just make the theme park run on nuclear power. And have Maggie wander in to the reactor. No one ever questions it or batts an eye, but that’s a holdover from the original ride concept that was well integrated into the replacement.

What was my point? Oh yea, Hagrid’s.

I thought it would have been weird to have a bunch of Hagrid motorbikes in a row, even said so in my rumor reporting before it was officially announced. After all, there’s only one of his bikes in the films. They shut me up real quick with one line in the preshow (and later in the queue in case preshow not running) saying they’re duplicating the bike with magic. Boom. Problem solved. And no one ever questions it.

Back to the Future features Doc Brown’s new invention, the 8 passenger DeLorean. And it’s a convertible, “because you can just travel to the sunny days.”

A long Ecto-1 that holds 20 people seems silly now, but I bet with the right preshow or story or even a clever premise explained on a sign in the queue, I’d buy it. Because I like fun rides.

And how killer would it be to hear the Ghostbusters theme on-board a coaster drifting around New York that blares the siren as it passes by the guests waiting behind the firehouse?

VelociCoaster is my example because it has incredible queue theming, a well-explained story, the real actors incorporated, and raptors on the ride. It’s not just an unthemed coaster. It has more rockwork on this one ride than an unthemed amusement park would dare place on their entire grounds.

But none of this matters, because of course the new ride is probably just going to be Fast & Furious.

I don't think anyone's reservations would be that the queue couldn't justify the ride vehicle.

My reservations would be that a GB attraction should probably be a mostly all-ages experience, and should ideally feature big show scenes/setpieces and lots of ghosts.

Martin has posted here in the past. Maybe if we all look in the mirror and say his name 3x, and also @ him a bunch, he'll get an email in a long-forgotten account and come back.

In the meantime, I'll be watching his lovely Paris kick and be cutting off my sleeves.

The problem with this is we most likely won't be getting a GB dark ride. Yeah, in a perfect world we would but honestly I don't see it happening. At least not for a very long time. I'll take what I can get at this point re: Ghostbusters being the retheme for RRR. It would work imo.

I'll settle for a show!

I guess, fundamentally, my position is this: I don’t care about F&F as a film series, so if Universal applies that theme to a high-thrill coaster that I probably won't ride anyway*, that's a good match. And it supplies increased reason to axe Supercharged sooner than later.

I do care about GB (as a film and a property), and therefore would like to see Universal implement it (if they’re going to) in an attraction type that I’m interested in/can experience.

*That's an assumption on my part based on speculation that it could be similar-ish to what Hollywood is getting, reconfigured for USF's unique confines, obviously.

As brilliant as Veloci is I don’t really love it as a Jurassic Park coaster. You could strip the IP away and lose very, very little.
