You're probably right. It would be a lot of work just to get Popeye usable for something else, and you'd be down to one water ride in the park if both are gone. Rethemed Popeye and a dark ride where Dudley is could make sense for whatever comes in.

So for all opposed to replacing Toon Lagoon, where do you think LOTR should go?

I believe that the problem with rethemeing Bluto's is that the rockwork on the canal is so toony that even the canal would have to be rethemed. And if they were going to have to go that far. Well, might as well replace the whole thing.

If they went ahead with the Mirkwood Barrel Escape, they could always paint the rocks grey.

 taking time to think about it I agree. We fans should enjoy what's there and appreciate it for what it is  Theme parks should change with time but the beauty of going is that we are able to experience things first hand. LOTR may be a good idea if Uni ever built the mystical third gate but IOA (barring a few minor additions to JP and Seuss Landing) feels right...at,least IMO

I think paint and theming around it could go a long way to changing the look

I can see it this way:

Add more trees and repaint the rocks to dark grey.
Add spiders, elves, and possibly wargs.
Retheme to octopus cave and lift hill to the wine cellar.

I wouldn't give WB too much credit. They're great mediators and facilitators for sure. But have you seen the Hong Kong Phooey and Mavrin the Martian test reels? :ack:

A wrecking ball would really change it's "look"

I can smell rancid wet tourists through my screen just looking at that picture.:ack:

Popeye is the best raft ride around. It's incredibly fun and can hold a large amount of people. I'd be disappointed to see it go. Now Dudley I wouldn't mind seeing go away.

I completely agree with you, knokout1. Popeye & Bluto's is easily one of the best raft ride in the world (and I have tried a lot of them). Truly a great experience.

Hmm. Is it bad that I don't even know what LotR is?! :inquisitive:

I've heard of it but...I guess I better look it up sometime soon!

From Wikipedia, here's the summary of Fllowship's plot:

Set in Middle-earth, the story tells of the Dark Lord Sauron, who is seeking the One Ring. The Ring has found its way to the young hobbit Frodo Baggins. The fate of Middle-earth hangs in the balance as Frodo and eight companions who form the Fellowship of the Ring begin their journey to Mount Doom in the land of Mordor, the only place where the Ring can be destroyed.

Well I'm thinking something more like 2018-2020.

Looking at it realistically, 2018-20 makes sense.

Once Potter 2.0 is done in 2014/15, there will be a year of relative peace most likely, maybe a bit ride added to IoA and some smaller work in the Studios. 2016 would probably be a KidZone redo, which would take 2 or so years.

JP construction will start after Transformers opens, and that could probably be a 2015/2016 date. I could see a Mummy update after the reboot in 2014.
