I can't believe how everyone is crediting "the site that SHALL NOT be named" as for discovering this info. OU discovered it first.

The whole article is pretty much a paraphrase of my first post here. Haha. Eric did throw in the "entirely new park" thing that he gleened from some posts over at WDWMAGIC.

If guys at Universal laid another "Permanent Haunt" type trail of crumbs they have to be laughing their a$$es off. If there is any validity to the info they are probably mad as ****.

Either way, I bet this twisted the Mouse's tail into a knot.

I think that building an attraction based on Mordor would be do-able; I feel that Saurons Tower could easily be a drop ride named "Barad dûr-op" (‘dûr-op’ when spoken out loud sounds like ‘drop’- just a little bit of a play of words there for ya).

Here is a map below showing what I envisioned a theme park portrayal of Middle Earth - the Shire and Mordor - to look like (Bag End Barrel Adventure is a Log Flume [the map doesn’t show it very clearly, right click and 'Open image in new tab' to see an enlarged version]).

A dining in Mordor experience however would be very hard to theme IMO, all I could come up with was Orcish Offal... :blank:

Get rid of Marvel and put in LOTR there; Fearfall can become your drop ride.

Better yet, get rid of Port of Entry while you're at it and make the lighthouse Sauron. (Note: I don't really want them to get rid of Marvel or PoE.)

Can't say. Haha

Sorry for the snarky answer, I couldn't resist. But the guys here at OU are having an ongoing tiff with the guys over there so I really shouldn't say. I was going to say google "Lord of the Rings" Universal but when I did OMG!!!!! everyone from Moviefone to Slashfilm to Film Drunk has this. I got over a page of hits. EVERYONE is reporting it.

 I was trying to think of the most ridiculous thing and didn't really want to put that much effort into doing the research. I could have always sent them over to 2 girls 1. . . . :pound:

For some reason the more and more this is talked about the less excited I get. Call it old age or just being senile but Idk if I want this in a theme park?

Yes I know I posted about 10 "yes"'s but my opinion changes....I welcome it lol

I just can't believe Uni would open a third gate just for LOTR, is this even true.. or would it be a third gate with other themed lands as well. A WHOLE park with just one theme is pretty limiting, but i guess LOTR is popular enough to warrant such a thing. I just can't even fathom this right now lol it's too much to process.

I don't think anyone said Lord of the Rings would get a Uni third gate all to itself, just that it is the IP that would convince Comcast/Uni to create another park with multiple themed lands.

So after reading the pages of speculation here and on WDWMagic, I still think that Marvel Island or Jurassic Park are likely targets for re-Themeing with LOTR/Hobbit. I realize IoA has Marvel for as long as they want it, however, with Comcast paying Disney $1B annually for programming it would seem that Disney has some leverage to free up Marvel in Florida if they pressed their overall relationship. The fact is the rest of the theming outside of WWoHP at IoA has quickly become dated so Universal has to be working on concepts to breathe life into the park after Harry starts to fade and with Universal's current lack of popular franchises, those are going to be outside deals. I believe Marvel, Toon Lagoon and JP are all being reviewed for future re-themeing and where possible expansion. But to think they are going to replace a kid-friendly area with a thrill zone is probably not likely.

Toon Lagoon is likely for retheming. Neither of the others are.

They're expanding JP, so it's not getting replaced.

With the Avengers being one of the hottest IPs of the year, I don't see MSHI as dated. And while Comcast does pay Disney a lot for programming, they are the largest distributor of ESPN, ESPN2 ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, and Disney XD. If Disney wants to push it, Comcast would just drop them from their line up.

JP is getting an expansion soon, so it's not going anywhere. Toon Lagoon? It has 2 of the most popular rides in the park, but the IPs are dated so there is a possibility of a retheme there. And there is the rest of The Lost Continent with popular Mythologies, but no IPs, but it not really large enough to hold LotR/Hobbit.So IF LotR were to go into IOA, Toon Lagoon seems the most likely to get the axe.

But part of the LotR Rumor was that it would be the anchor IP for a 3rd park. If Universal were to build a 3rd park, I would imagine Kong would also find his way back to Orlando in one form or another.

I'd still like to see Kong become the theme of the water park.
