I honestly think that since this is supposed to be a luxury boutique resort and a big part of traveling to FL is for it's tropical setting, that a Caribbean themed resort would be perfect for the plot between RP and CBR. Something like this:

nandara-private-resort.jpg

With rooms that look like this:

Save the high-rise casino for the I-Drive/WnW plot.

Even tho it looks totally different, I get the Royal Pacific feel from it... Concepts are too similar.

HTF any idea when we would know about the concept?

I did a little bit of "armchair" urban planning and I imagine that something like this would work well as a 5th hotel with a more intimate boutique feel.

Thanks! Definitely something I like doing too. Although my rendering isn't perfect, it gives you an idea of how I'd position the resort on that awkward piece of turf.

Or given the heat Orlando is famous for they could do an Arizona Luxury Spa theme:

After seeing some of the architecture in Scottsdale as well as staying there for the Fiesta Bowl, if Universal can do that architecture for a hotel, I would absolutely applaud them! Scottsdale is right up there with Miami as one of the most beautiful places I've been to in America.

One of the most beautiful hotels in the world is the Fairmont Château Frontenac in Québec City. In spite of its appearance, the 19th century structure was designed as a hotel and was never used as a castle.

There's no reason why Universal can't combine elegance with a Hogwartsian/castle theme. It has already been done. They would just need to tweak the idea a little, adding a Great Hall dining area (reservations required), a modern take on gothic details, and subtly house-themed rooms.

The only issue I see with a Hogwarts theme, is either:

It's Hogwarts, and you have a continuity issue where Hogwarts is both in the park and not in the park at the same time.

Or

It's not Hogwarts and it comes of as a knockoff and people are disappointed in it. Even if it's the most elegant hotel in the world, people won't be happy if its not "Hogwarts"

That being said, I don't care about continuity and if they built a Hogwarts hotel, you can bet I'd be booking a room there.

I don't want Hogwarts, what I really think should be integrated is a 5 Diamond Hotel. It would be another thing that Universal has that Disney doesn't. Orlando doesn't have any 5 Diamonds yet (I think 4 Seasons might change that), but it could be something really awesome to elevate Universal's status further.

It would be nice, but do you believe that plot of land is suitable for such a hotel? Does grand floridan not fall under that category? I feel that a 5 diamond hotel would be more suitable when they expand into new land IMO, that can be their flagship hotel and since their would be a newer, more high end retail area and also next to the convention center, it would be a better fit to wait til then.

I have said too much :look: :P

Grand Floridian is 4 Diamond. Their mid hotels are 3 Diamond, and the values are 2 Diamond.

I love Universal, i believe what they are doing is great. i do not feel however, With grand floridian being a 4 diamond, that they should, at this moment, open an 5 diamond. Due to price, land mass, exclusivity (one of the reasons Grand Floridian is great is because their isn't so much clutter around it, wouldn't feel the same being in between RP and CBBR).

People around the world who can only travel once a year (or once every three years) go to WDW, they want to be in that resort, and then spent a day or two going to UNI. although I believe it will change in the next decade, the tendency is still there for visitors to go to WDW. 5 diamond will come, I believe that, but not at their current location

Keep in mind that Uni's open resorts are 4 Diamond, I believe the new one will be 3 Diamond. So if the do build a 5 Diamond it would probably be comparable with Floridian in price.

Oneupmanship at it's finest.

That makes the most sense to me. Keep the 5th hotel upscale...but not THAT upscale.

If they build a huge highly themed Waterpark, a new Citywalk, a 5 diamond hotel, and eventually another theme park, Uni is going to be unstoppable.

I believe 5-diamond hotels are built for international luxury and business travelers, not middle-class families going to a swamp on vacation. I'm joking... Well, I'm not really joking, but point is: I don't think the central Florida market can support a 5-diamond hotel. People that pay $900 a night won't be seen eating.... Burger Sushi. :)

Ritz-Carlton in Orlando has seen quite a bit of success, as have the rest of the 4 diamond properties. The Ritz is the closest you're getting to 5 Diamond though. I think 4 Seasons might change that, but that isn't even a guarantee.

Joke if you want but I think there is a real market for 5 Diamond in Orlando. It would obviously come with upscale restaurants if it happened. These people are already staying in Orlando, that's why there are so many 4 Diamond resorts in Orange County. The people staying at the Ritz, Grand Floridian, and J.W. Marriott are close to paying 5 Diamond prices as is, there money is ready, they'd more than likely pay the little bit more to stay.

The Waldorf is nice, I guess it is only 4 diamonds as well? I would eat at Bull and Bear there before I would eat at Shula's. They have an incredible place for breakfast at the Waldorf as well, but way out of my price range for breakfast.
