And if it does, it's only because it's a HUGE success and it'd likely be a scaled down version.

Disney isn't in a hurry to clone this thing... but it should still be beautiful and a great addition so i'm fine with it being DAK exclusive.

If this land really cost a billion, either a billion dollars is not what it used to be or Disney is completely out of control. If I won the Powerball and all I got in exchange for it was Avatarland, I would be sorely disappointed.

Spending is out of control. That's why Bob Weis was recently put in control of WDI... get spending under control.

I believe Bruce Vaughn's recent sudden departure from WDI has a lot to do with budgets. NFL clocked in at well over $500M. Now Avatar is bumping off a cool billion.

My biggest fear is that while Avatar land will be a sight to behold, it will also be very expensive to maintain. When those "glowing plants/sidewalks" stop working, how soon will they get fixed?

And this is my big fear with everything they are building or are going to build. I'm convinced Imagineering cares about show quality, but once they hand it over...

It's like the old days when you had to see a movie on opening weekend before the print got beat up.

it doesn't help that the public like to tear apart attractions while they wait in line.

I just thought of this today. If this attraction proves somewhat/quite popular, how many of the externally owned parks (Japan) will beg for a copy of it, like Potter? Will they want it so much that they're willing to pay for it?

They announced the rides and revealed more info at D23 Japan awhile ago for OLC to bite and they didn't care to.

From the article I read, filming isn't even close to beginning and they are filming all three simultaneously. With fxs and everything, no way the second one gets out before 2020.

I don't think Avatar 2 will do anywhere near as well as the first one just because it won't have that perfect storm. It was released over Christmas with nothing else to really oppose it, and Star Wars is likely going to own Christmas from now on. I think a lot of people went to see it just because they heard the 3-D was so realistic, and that's not going to be a big deal since 3-D has blown up in the intervening years.

I'd think they'd want this in China. Avatar was huge in China and part 2 will be too.

Response to earlier post about number of days at Uni vs. Disney: Haven't been to Orlando since 2009, but I can say with full confidence, our next trip will include at least two days at Uni.

the only way avatar 2 will do as good is if it does something that changes the way we watch movies again. But even that might not be enough. it will also have to be a good to great movie as-well.Maybe if they figure out how to do glasses less 3d.

I don't think anyone is expecting it to do as good. TFA is the biggest box office success since Avatar released and it still hasn't even hit $2B, nevermind $2.7B.

Right. Plus considering inflation, it's actually even further away from that 2.7 B figure.

We got permits and they show the ride layout of the Na'vi River Journey ride. Someone want to get a nice high-res version of this and stick it onto google maps because that would be fantastic.

Over at Magic they were saying it looks about 550' or so long. Compared it to Maelstrom & Fiesta which were about 50% longer ( 850')in length.

I think this is going to be like Kong in the sense it will have large RVs, move very slowly, and have multiple stationary scenes.
