I could see Super Mario Galaxy 3 being the surprise title (I doubt Nintendo would tease a smaller game like F-ZERO or Mother 3 like this, so it's gotta be something big) and some sort of new multiplayer IP being the Nintendo-Online focused game. Mario Maker is also an option that would fit both roles simultaneously, but that doesn't fit the "play with or against players" motto.

I'm willing to take a guess..the multiplayer game is actually Splatoon 3.

It'd make some sense, considering the timeframe from Splatoon 1 & 2 was in a 2 year developmental cycle. I would not be surprised, if they stand to continue that trend with the Splatoon series going forward.

As far as the surprise game..I have one guess: 2D Zelda. And it's not because they want to keep that Zelda high going, but it would make actually a bit of sense.

In other news..

If I am not mistaken, the director of Breath of the Wild stated a few months back that Nintendo wants to one thing Zelda a year for the Switch; 2017 was Breath of the Wild, 2018 was Hyrule Warriors, it would not surprise me if we get a remake or something of a Zelda game this year, and then maybe next year a brand new Zelda game.

Probably we'll also get Super Mario Odyssey 2.

I don't think its Splatoon 3 because Animal Crossing and Splatoon share the same team and they seem to still be working on that. Its more likely Zelda.

One thing I should say is Nintendo is now working more so on new IP creation vs just putting out games so it may be something we aren't expecting in the multiplayer multi game universe world.

Don't know why, but I don't see any 2D Zelda games on this console for a while. We'll see WindWaker/Skyward Sword HD this year instead.

There's a chance that we get Pikmin 4 this year, since that fits the role very well.

Some guy on Reddit is saying that Nintendo has FIVE unannounced games releasing this year, but didn't provide any proof (so far). If he's telling the truth, then that's very interesting. I'd go out on a limb and say that Metroid Prime Trilogy, WindWaker HD, Pikmin 4, whatever Retro was working on, and Super Mario Strikers/Maker/a new IP are the five titles.

Also, where the hell has Tantalus been? They were supposed to be making HD remasters of Gamecube/Wii games for the Switch.

Honestly, I buy WindWaker, but think without doubt that we are far off from seeing Skyward Sword get a HD remaster.

I don't buy Pikmin 4, until Miyamoto has a copy of the game in his hands playing.

..and can you provide link to that reddit post? Or better yet, has anyone more..prominent backed up those claims?

Not that I know of. But he's saying Nintendo said it. And it's more of a comment then a post, so you'll have to dig to find it: Nintendo has at least one unannounced Switch game that “fans would be delighted to know” for 2019 : NintendoSwitch

The reason I brought it up is that, if true, this is very interesting. It's not out of the realm of possibility, either.

Also, why don't you buy Pikmin 4? It's been said that it's close to completion for many years now.

I can't see the tweet, but I'm guessing it's the Xbox Live on Switch news? I actually love the idea, especially if it has voice/text chat and allows games like Cuphead to come to the console in the future.

Essentially, yeah.

Microsoft plans Xbox Live for Nintendo Switch, mobile • Eurogamer.net

..The implications that this has though, is massive. Especially with the streaming service Microsoft is planning looming.

I just learned about the streaming service. Holy mother of God.

If I can one day play Cyberpunk 2077, Mario Kart, Halo, and Zelda on the same console, then that will be the day I enter my room and never come out.

Variety has now backed up Eurogamer's post.

Considering how well Microsoft and Nintendo are getting along these days, I can't say I blame them for having Switch be the first use of another's console with Live.

Read the article, it’s about XBL tie in to games, not a PS Now like streaming service.

I know. But game streaming could still come to the Switch in the future. Apparently Microsoft has been working on it for a while, and they seem to have a good relationship with Nintendo.

I'd happily pay an extra 60 dollars to play any game I want to on the go.

RE 7 was streamable on Switch in Japan. But don’t hold your breath or assume this API bake in will automatically lead to that.

I found the source of the "five unannounced games" tidbit, but it turns out that it might be more. It comes from a very reputable insider on Resetera.

The quote:

"Indeed. Five is the floor (minimum) -- not the ceiling. The ceiling could be as high as 11 or 12.

It's difficult to give an exact number because any game can be pushed back to 2020 for marketing/scheduling reasons.

Let me try to explain this better.

The "Most likely" Nintendo-published game announcements for 2019. (70% chance or higher)

1. Mystery game #1
2. Mystery game #2
3. Mystery game #3
4. Mystery game #4
5. eShop game #1
6. Mystery Wii U port #1 (2013 title)
7. eShop game #2
8. New Labo Kit

The "Maybe" games for 2019. (The wild card titles - 50% chance or less)

9. Retro Studios secret game (this is assuming it wasn't canned)
10. Metroid Prime Trilogy (assuming Zell's info and Imran's info are correct)
11. Mystery Wii U port #2"

She hinted at one of the unannounced games being something from Platinum. And the mystery games do not include Retro or MPT. So that's interesting. And the 2013 Wii U port could be any of the following: Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, WindWaker HD, Wonderful 101.

Take it with a grain of salt, but this could be amazing if true.

Edit: Just to give a more pessimistic sort of view, she could easily make this all up and still be correct. The next Wii U port is almost certainly a 2013 title, as 2013 currently has the best available games. It was clear that, even before Nintendo started teasing the unannounced games, we'd end up getting more games this year. Four games is a good number. And the E-Shop titles do make sense.

Pikmin 3 would be nice to release alongside 4. As for another WiiU port, I think Mario Maker. Don't think 3d world will be ported, as it is more likely one of the mystery games will by Odyssey 2.

No way Odyssey 2 comes out this year. It's too early.

I don't know, I could see it happen as a surprise holiday hit. Somebody here once remarked that perhaps the reason there has been no DLC for the original, is because they just decided to immediately put effort into a new game.

I am still hopeful for Mario Kart DLC too.

3D Mario games normally take close to three years to make, sequel or not. Also, why not use 3D World to bridge the gap between the mainline games?
