Universal, not that this is who they try to be, don’t have too many “I grew up with this (insert IP) and am now going to take my kid there and live thru it” which Spongebob would absolutely do since the Sponge was popular for my age group and were now approaching the age of having kids and stuff, I think it’d be smart to do Sponge somewhere in the US.

I just think with 2 parks, albeit indoor parks, prominently featuring Spongebob already in North America, Universal just isn't all that interested in it for more than merch and character representation (parade and M&G). And the fact that those 2 parks are...um...rather lackluster makes the IP even less appealing.

I'm kind of surprised that Universal allowed their IPs to be used else where, especially in a water park for this reason.

At least we found the reason for the 'Toothless Trickling Torpedo' trademark.

Pretty sure the deal was made before Uni owned DreamWorks.

Looks look it. Was announced in 2011, 5 years before the takeover and 9 years before opening.

And people here thought it's been too long since the Nintendo deal was announced and the first ride opening.

Hey guys, I'm working on a new script. I haven't gotten far, but I like it so far. Here's how it starts.

"Bruce smells blood in the water. Smells like whale blood. His acute senses say it's 11-12 miles south of his location. He pauses for a brief moment and thinks. It's not where he was planning on going, but a fat and injured whale is too tempting to pass up. He changes course and swims towards the source with purpose."

Love the script. And anticipate a happy ending with dust in my eyes. ;)

I still think a themed indoor Magacascar area at Volcano Bay would be a good way to finally get a water slide with theme park level theming.

Would be nice, but there's not a ton of room. That's also something you'd want near the entrance.

DreamWorks was like Nickelodeon. They would license their IP to just about anyone.

There's a difference between poking fun and mocking.

On the cost of the park, I think this tweet sums up why things are more expensive now compared to when IOA opened for example.

The level of detail getting pumped into every nook and cranny has dramatically increased over the last two decades with it ramping up even more since Potter opened.

That's definitely the big money spender, how much is a single ride these days that are Universal or Disney? If this thing would've had 4 lands, each with an average of two rides, three hubs, and all those water features they would have made an incredibly detailed park, but I also could've seen 3 billion as the base amount.

If they're going to keep Spongebob on the gift bags then at least give him a ride

Hmmm, I wonder if Comcast has noticed all the delayed projects and gutting of the core product going on down the road? Seems ripe for exploitation to me.

I’ve been thinking this since the start. If it’s a year delayed and opens in 2024, I’d like to think that things should be well on the way to being back to the new normal.

We'll probably BE in new normal by then, excluding the possibility of war.

You mean the new civil war between the 88th Battalion of the BassPro Boys verses the US Navy Drones? Also known as the 90 second civil war?
