I don't understand the dislike for APs? Most people complaining about them are other passholders so what's the problem? Granted I've never owned a pass and have only gone twice so:

It’s the snake eating its tail. APs wanna go whenever THEY want and don’t want others to go, or think they’re being clever by going on a day they think no one else will go, or believe they should maximize their investment by going as many times a week as they can because, hey, they paid for the privilege, all while failing to realize that every other AP is having that exact same thought process. So they get there, find crowds full of other APs, and it becomes the Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man meme, with no self-reflection that they’re part of creating the very crowding problem they lament.

Well put.

I think it also comes down to how people want to use APs. There are APs that want to use it as a social club membership to go all the time, and others that want to use it as a value pass to go several times within a year.

Interested to see what DL proposes for APs, but I’m leaning towards hitting the resort once or twice a year in spectacular fashion and sticking to Uni as my AP park since it’s closer.

Oh, absolutely. I was an AP from late 2014 to 2018, and then again for a few months right up to the pandemic only because I had two friends coming on two separate weeks in late 2019 that each wanted to go and it was cheaper to just get the Select than buy two separate park hopper tickets. Even during those first years, my view was: As long as I go three or four times in the year, especially as a way to spend time with visiting friends, I’m good, and always during a weekday. Meanwhile I know people who were going every single week, if not twice a week or more.

In my 2019/‘20 AP period (I got the refund option) I never got to ride Rise of the Resistance a single time. I wanted to, but logistically getting there at the crack of dawn in the off CHANCE to get a boarding pass seemed utterly illogical to me. I just want to ride the ride, not have to fight for the opportunity with a high potential of still losing.

Meanwhile, again, those same people I know, or other APs on social media, were all bragging that they’ve been on it seven or eight times, going each and every morning they can, and all I can see in that is selfishness. They know how difficult it is for people to ride it, yet they’re there snatching up boarding passes from APs whose schedules mean they can never get there in time or even worse - in my opinion - robbing, say, the opportunity of riding it from some excited family who may be on their one Disneyland trip for years.

That social club membership description is spot-on, and that’s definitely the type of AP I was describing, too, because there’s a strange entitlement that blinds them to how their collective, perpetual presence en masse affects others.

Anyway, this concludes my TED talk.

I think you're going to need a bigger boat (joke emanating from your picture). It's just more appealing for me (my opinion only) for stand-by. Then, I can choose or not choose to wait in the line as opposed to being ready with phone in hand before 7:00, hoping that my connection doesn't lag for some unknown reason, and then feverishly pushing buttons and refreshing while trying to harpoon my white whale. Again, just an opinion.

I calculated the pre-pandemic AP tiers and it was absolutely worth buying the $600 pass if you planned on going at least four times within a year.

I was an AP like ten years ago and it wasn't so bad...it was after DCA 2.0 were the prices became crazy and everyday was busy

Disneyland used to be about getting away from it all....now its about going and gloating to your friends "im here and your not" and just wish we could have a balance, I don't mind people coming more than once BUT tried of people making everyday have lines. It takes away from the place being special when you can't just relax and enjoy it but have to have a plan if you want to go on your favorite rides.

I just want some limits, maybe you can only go 12 times a year but anytime. I mean does anyone need to go to Disneyland over 12 times a year?

I don't know man, I went at least 12 times a year and I barely ever posted my pictures on social media, so it definitely wasn't about "I'm here and you're not" lol. Maybe even more than 12 times as I tried to go once every two to three weeks. Sometimes I'd just go in the evening, sit by the ROA away from the crowds, eat a corn dog, ride Pirates, then go home. For the most part, I can't imagine my attendance was hurting anybody. I'm sure there's hundreds like me as well. Honestly, in a whole year, I maybe went for ONE full day from open to close, clogging up lines. Other than that, I'd be there Friday night, walking back to my car instead of using the structure, and mostly staying out of everyone's way. I think the worst thing I'd do on a Friday night is get drinks at Cove Bar/Lamplight after dinner rush, but I'd always do walkup instead of reserving. If my friends and I spend $200 on lobster nachos and drinks, I don't see why that should be limited. WHO has a disadvantage of this? As they say, a few bad apples ruin the bunch, but most APers I knew were very much like me. There definitely were passholes, but not enough to have this mentality of "APs, bad." I agree with the post a few above mine, those doing repeats on Rise definitely suck. I did it once and said, "I'll come back in a year when the line opens up to stand by." No need to take anyone's spot after doing it once. Just watch it on YouTube after if you really wanna see it again.

Call me an APhole all you want but I went 40 times in 2019. Open to close and I tried for rise every time. Why because that is my money I spent on a pass that allows me to. They say Disneyland is a locals park and passholders dominate it. So be it go to WDW if you don’t like it. I enjoy going to parks and I am going to go whrn I want. Everyone here is complaining but you would do the same if that is what you wanted or could do. It’s not selfish. Im not taking life aaving resources from someone. It just a fun place to go. I hate crowds but I also know that is the orice you pay. You figure out a strategy to maximize you fun and enjoy.

I mean of course it makes but I would just like less of this going on.

Its what kept me from going to the parks and for sure will make a trip before the flood gates are open again. If Universal was this bad I'd speak up but while some days are bad they have easily over 100 off days and even on busy days you can come in the morning or closing and enjoy not many people going on rides. I just hope they have a few more limitations to make people like me happy and let APs come in as well.

No two Apers are the same, my point is for sure their are more Aps than ten years ago and for sure lots of people going for a million different reasons. Disney was not cool ten years ago and I will bet everything I have on that something changedas the MCU got big and Star Wars Sequels came out that made it were every 20-30 year old thought it was the cool place to be...which when I was younger was not the case it was for families and Disney nerds...now everyone is a Disney nerd...lol

I think the "passhole" thing is blown out of proportion. They exist, but so do people who make one yearly trip and then freak out at a Cast Member because something didn't go right. I'm sure anyone who has worked at City Hall can verify that. My issue is when people make anything (in this case Disney/Disneyland) their entire identity. Those are the people who tend to have the major entitlement issues and in my experience, social media often goes hand in hand with it.

That's exactly it: people go to Disneyland for a million different reasons. Some go for the food, some for the rides, some for the atmosphere etc. The "cool" pendulum has swung at Disneyland a few times over the years, but honestly if more people are going and making memories or enjoying it in their own way who am I to judge?

If make it where people can't ride the new ride or lines are always over 90 mins...then it is effecting others.

If disney gives me none passholder days and it cost 200 bucks but lines are 30 mins or less, I'm in. I want a full day of just magic not an over crowded theme park with people who go weekly and just make me waiti longer.
Thats all I want is days were we can have some slow days

Speaking of slow days Peter Pan is 15 mins....i might have to go soon. Seem like a really good time to go for lines to be low

New rides draw crowds. Disney likes crowds. Boycott? Sure there is someone there to take your place. There is no real solution.

Well, there have always been lines at Disneyland so that point is sort of moot. From a company perspective a slow day is a bad day.

As someone who grew up with the parks yes but in recent years the lines are always bad. Like I said, I would pay Disney extra money for a low capacity day, also Universal has many low days and they are fine

Anyway I'll let the thread go back at this point. People get it i would like some off season days again and hope the new AP system allows for that.

With the technology that is available, one possible solution (probably not a good one) would be to block someone with an AP from making more than two Rise reservations in a six month or twelve month period. However, I don't know how much that helps. How many AP holders are actually guilty of hogging Rise reservations? Thousands? It would take a fairly large amount to block Rise with its hourly capacity of around 1,700 pph (I think that is what was quoted). I'm not saying abuse doesn't happen but I just don't know if it is substantial enough to cause the issue.

To me, it actually goes back to Disney creating rides that have less throughput that 2,000 pph. When you have millions coming through the gates each year, you should not create rides with low to average capacity. It works for a Cedar Fair park because their attendance is around 4 milion per year. Sure, it creates a scenario where people have to visit the parks more to experience everything but that model actually creates the frustration that we're discussing. Navi' River has capacity of around 800 pph, as does Frozen. Both have long lines and one (Nav'i) is kind of blah. However, lack of other rides and slow throughput combine to create the line. Instead of generating more visiting time, people just skip it after a while because why wait? When you are talking an IP like Star Wars, any ride built should have a capacity of close to 3,000 pph like Pirates and Haunted Mansion. The popularity is such that Disney should not have done any differently.

...or they can choose a radical option... increase ride/dining capacity.

There's an entire side of the park that desperately needs an overhaul in Tomorrowland. Compared to the west side of the park where you have POTC/Indy/HM/Splash/SWGE all side by side, you have Space Mountain and a couple of D/C tickets that are not as popular (Autopia/Buzz/Subs). They can bring back the Edison square concept to increase capacity in Main Street for both dining and shopping.

There are ways to 'reduce' crowds by spreading them out and increasing ride capacity rather than prince increases or adding additional blackout dates. No Disney/Universal park should build a new E/D-Ticket that falls below the 1500 hourly ride capacity..

I agree with this

It sucks when they make slow loading rides. I love Racers and Star Wars but god they are just not getting enough people per hour they need to be under the wait time they should be

Spiderman I'm hoping is more of a people eater but doubt the Avenger ride will be
