My thoughts on this after watching/listening

Think it’s going to be a stunning house scenically with some interesting viewpoints (such as the silo).

The creatures sound brilliantly done, and great variety of different views etc.

The concept of playing along to be as quiet as possible sounds great in theory, but I am really worried the general public just won’t get it or play along, especially when people have had a drink or two. I’d want to go through as quiet as possible as think that’s the way to get the most out of the house, but with the conga lines that will be impossible.

I’m glad they’re trying something different. I think they will give it their all, but I’m concerned the public response to it being “just another house” means it won’t be as good as it could and should be.

Maybe they need to pulse lines for this one? Or give groups the option when going through how they want to do it and have separate queues? Not sure really how to fix this….

Pulse the lines? Do you want 8 hour wait times? Lol in all seriousness I don't think they will make any changes to the crowd flow operations and seriously doubt the general public will play along in silence. I am still super excited for this house regardless and am expecting a lot of audiovisual fx to give the illusion of silence. They pulled that off really well in Graveyard Games and Hill House.

Yeah it was more an illustration of a potential fix, but ultimately not a practical one. Not really sure what else can be practically done. If the soundproofing is excellent then people may naturally act more quietly (wishful thinking, but never say never!). Really feels like this house has potential to go either way, but glad they’re experimenting and trying new things

Yeah my biggest fear for this house is the general public being INTENTIONALLY loud to try to get scares

How many people are IN a house at a time?

I wonder how practical it would be to pass out headphones to completely control the sound experience of a house (or lack of sound). Silent discos are happening at other parks, so it doesn't seem totally unrealistic to loan them to guests.

EDIT: Not happening this year, obviously. They would have mentioned it in the podcast and hyped it in a press release.

Hmmm... "A Look Into" vs. "Echoes From the Fog" from Monstrous and Major Sweets. Maybe it's just different branding being an IP and anything shown will just be media from the movies (or the title is a poor choice of wording lol). Or maybe we get some obscure shots from inside the haunt like the announcement videos used to have.

I think the main reason for the change is that we're not getting a story play-by-play, but rather an interview with Charles Grey.

Some techniques and spoilers culled from the podcast:
- They are really hyping the size of these creatures, which makes me excited. I really hope they move rather than what the Mind Flayer ended up being.

- There is an emphasis on the "social contract" that the guests are expected to be quiet. Charles even says that they are going to try as best as they can to get the ops team to shush people. I wonder what this is going to look like when a guest three sheets to the wind is loudly talking about his fantasy sports picks while walking through the house and gets shushed by a member of Ops.

- The house will be mainly chronological, starting with the first movie and ending with the second movie. There is one item that is shifted due to spacing and layout, which I imagine is one of the larger scenes, or a scene involving multiple Death Angels.

- The nail will be in the house, and so, we can assume by the transitive property, the cracking picture frame, Evelyn giving birth, and the kitchen timer.

- Re-confirmation of ASL within the house. Something that I found really lovely is that they have cast deaf performers as well as interpreters, and that the interpreters will be traveling to other houses so that other cast members can learn the language. I think it's a really great way to not only be inclusive, but to stimulate the performers that might be bored while waiting for their next set. A real quality-of-life perk.

- Lee signing "I Love You, I have always loved you" and then screaming will likely be directly in the middle of the house. The podcast mentions that this is a big gamble on the part of the design team, as it is rare that tender, nuanced emotions are showcased in the houses - I can't wait to cry. Note that they mistakenly refer to the scene as one between Lee and Evelyn rather than between Lee and his children. I'm sure that this is in order to reduce the actor count in the sequence, especially sacrificing three performers who would otherwise be sitting motionless in a truck. I wonder how they will portray his being eaten.

- I like the idea that, because they are so big, we will see pieces of it throughout the house, including claw swipes, head opening-up, and the full body (using the blessing of size in the soundstage).

- There will be sound-proofing to reduce scene bleed, and an atmospheric take on the scenes. I imagine this is to avoid breaking tension, like if scenes like Lee screaming bleed into the rusty nail scene.

- NO REAL CORN

- The grain silo and basement are going to be the “WOW! Facade!” moments.

- I’m very excited to see how this house transforms over time. They more or less confirm that, in order to make the IP holder happy, they will need to continue adjusting.

I don’t know the proper place to put this question, but does anyone know what happened to the former voices of the podcast? I like these folks a lot, but I liked the old ones a lot too! I believe they were named David and Kari? I have a suspicion that I’d also seen Kari in entertainment offerings around the park, so I hope they didn’t get laid off.

I've been wondering the same. Kari and David had a lot of chemistry that the new group does not have lol

Well, I guess they assigned homework for fans with this house.
The nail is probably the very first scene I’ve heard of for an IP that I think fans should do homework for. It’s such a small thing (literally) that I cannot imagine “reading” well as a guest. You have to know what it is.

I think Kari alluded to playing Olive Oyl/Lucy on the podcast, and, if I’m not mistaken, I believe she was one of my orientation leaders for HHN many years ago. The leader in question was HILARIOUS and scared the ever-loving out of me several times throughout the presentation, and I look so totally fondly on that experience.

I've always assumed the hosts all have other entertainment jobs at the parks!

I think, if they rope Ops into this, they will discourage TALKING, but not screaming at scares. I think there is a really clear distinction between attention-getting screams and genuine fear reactions. I happen to speak a LOT when anxious, and I think it will be nice to have a reminder in this house, as I do NOT want to ruin it for anyone.

there should be signs telling you to be quiet all over the queue and all over the entrance. big bright signs like
" danger" sign type of thing.
show people to be quiet even before they enter the building.

I feel for the ops in this house already. I don’t expect the majority of them to keep shushing people as the event goes on. I feel like that’s an invitation for some rude situations with drunk/rowdy guests, but we’ll see how it goes.

Via John Murdy of HHN Hollywood, during his tour of Hollywood's AQP house, he mentioned the animatronics/puppets for this coast's house were created by the Hollywood team also.

A very solid book report house.

The aliens work remarkably well,. But the human actors are victims. Ton of Easter eggs in the sets.

Not sure it will prove to be an all-timer but good for what it is. If you're a fan of the movie, a must-see.

I'm curious to see how the "quietness" aspect of the house is executed, and if it even works.
