Does anyone know what the 'Worlds First' is? I may have seen it somewhere though!

Nobody knows for sure yet Thorpid.

Could be the secret element, could be the cars, could be the inversion count or something we haven't thought of yet. One thing is interesting though, AT keep switching the marketing between "world first" and "world beating".

Oblivion's paint job is coming along nicely, they had to do this as it is right next to The Smiler (I preferred calling it SW7) so it would have been an awful contrast, any way looking good .

Also I really love this tune, had it in my head for days after it was in that creepy video. Someone posted it again on Towers Times and now it's stuck again. I actually really like it and hope they use it somewhere in the ride, queue line maybe, have a listen and see what you think.

Not been much news since the name was announced and the delay was confirmed. Park is open for a week next week, the area will be closed but I hope I will get a sneaky peek. In the mean time here are a few pics released by Alton Towers via twitter.

We have the Staffordshire Knot element. Woop. Now where's the rest of it XD

Seeing as it is my local park, I am going on 16/02/13 but doubt the progress....

I will also be there on the 16th, you will most likely see me whoring Nemesis for most of the day. Xsector will be closed so very much doubt we will get near SW7 although it won't stop me trying to get a sneaky peep. :look:

Welcome to the forum Poison Tom :welcome:

Oh and nice cars by the way

Hey guys. I'm the site editor of TowersTimes.co.uk - I'm glad you've been enjoying our images earlier in this thread. I've been a long time reader and lurker on these forums yet never actually ventured into this section before.

Here's one from our latest update (today) for you:

external1.jpg

As you can see, the main progress since the last update is concrete work on the footers and station area is well underway. We're expecting the ride to shoot up very quickly from this point onwards.

Hey Adz! Great pics and updates! :rep:

Hopefully one day I'll travel over to your side of the pond and visit the theme parks over there! The coasters in this park look amazing! And I'm dying to go on the WB Studio Tour, and just seeing Europe. It's been a dream of mine forever...

Anyways, glad to have you posting with us!

I would say 8 to 12 weeks. Original plans was for March 16th opening (start of the new season) we are now looking at May. Alton Towers haven't given a specific date other than that.

I am starting to worry about all the concrete walls, I can see these being a real eye sore. It will be interesting to see how they finish the pit containing the batwing and cobra roll, originally it looked like this would be a plaza area which could walk around, I'm not so sure we will see that now.

You can see the station coming along nicely in the pic above. Below are the plans for the finished station building.

Thanks Adz for the original pic, more great work by you and the team over at TTF (Towers Times forum)

So here are the rest of the aerials from Adz over on towers times. No more track up but lots of ground work done.

Staging
BCwET_HCEAEAcXR.jpg:large

The Smiler to the right and Oblivion on the left.
1.jpg

Oblivion is getting a nice new paint job (foreground) . Smiler Station structure taking shape
2.jpg

The "Staffordshire Knot" Batwing and Cobra Roll
3.jpg

After all the bad weather ground work is finally getting there.
4.jpg

The Smiler, Oblivion and the Towers in the foreground. The Sanctuary is within the towers.
5.jpg

More groundworks, the first lifthill should start along that back wall area. Will the worlds first element be whats hidden away?
6.jpg

Nice over view of X Sector, home of The Smiler and a nice shiny black Oblivion
7.jpg

Top end of the site, that building is existing toilets by the looks we will be walking between supports to get in there
8.jpg

Another overview, you can see the difference in colour on Oblivions banked turned (left of picture). The ride is great but as you can see it is a bit smaller then Sheikra. Total length = 1,223 ft (373 m) reaching a speed of 68 mph (109 km/h)
10.jpg

One last shot paint job shot, diving into Oblivion. The height of the track there is 60ft(18m) yet the drop is 196ft (60m)
11.jpg

Many thanks to http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/ for the pics

A week on from the last update and we have some more aerials courtesy of http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/

A lot of ground work has been done and many more footers added I expect (or hope) we are not far off seeing supports and track going in. I followed constuction of Saw the ride at Thorpe (another Eurofighter) and the track for that flew up once ground work was complete, so fingers crossed the next update will be even more awesome. Any way back to the latest pics.

Great to see so many workers on the job and concrete being poured
1.jpg

More footers going in around the top end of the site, the existing building (toilets) is almost totally surrounded.
2.jpg

The site is looking much cleaner now. Amazing how far that concrete pourer can reach.
3.jpg

Gerstlaurs office in the background, they should be working hard soon.
4.jpg

Staffordshire knot and lots of heavy machinery.
5.jpg

Lots of footers and that back wall area should be where the lift hill will start.
6.jpg

Just in front of the crane is a refurbished submission, to the right of the crane you can see a dismantled enterprise ride getting ready for it's new parts (Enterprise is a spinning gravity ride). Oblivions repaint continues.
7.jpg

Staging area, prefab footers, track and stairs?
8.jpg

More track and supports
9.jpg

Wide angel of staging area.
10.jpg

Yet more track, is that a break run I can see?
11.jpg

Alton Towers is open this week for half term so I took my first trip of the season . I Had a real geek out moment when I managed to get up close and personal with this track piece :drool5:
SW7Track_zpsb6965440.jpg

The following set of photos were taken by a fan from TTF who managed to grab these shots of some mysterious track , is it just a brake run or maybe there is more to it. Any ideas?

So there you have it, work is moving along nicely now, and I am starting to get excited about this project again, especially being able to see and touch and feel the cold hard steel of track for myself today (sorry geeked out there). No other photos from the AT though as the area is well sealed off. I will be heading back next weekend though to see if any thing has changed, maybe get some more track shots too. Many thanks to Adz at Towerstimes for the photos.

You think so HTF? Thats not what I wanted to hear.

The original date was pushed back to May. No specific date just May, that would give 6 to 10 weeks.

All posters on park yesterday also stated May, surely AT wont have a second delay.

Looking at the update from last week to this week work seems so be moving along at pace now, although I must admit I am no expert. I do know Gerst Euro fighter track goes up pretty quick, Saw at thorpe was 2 to 3 weeks if I remember right. I dont know how long they have to test for though, I have been looking everywhere to find out so if any one knows I would be interested to know this.

HTF I usually trust your words and look forward to your predictions coming to fruition, I don, t doubt you but on this occasion I seriously hope you are wrong.

What were your thought on those track shots, just brake run or more to it?

As far as I'm aware. The ride is still scheduled for a May opening with soft openings in April.

From this point onwards the ride will go up incredibly quickly. I would expect track to be nearly complete by the end of February.
