There are some absolutely amazing and affordable rates in Orlando, especially if you seek them out. I have little desire to stay on property at Universal because I can stay at a Rosen property for a better rate.

I'm okay with making the compaison to Disney considering I worked at All-Star for so long. This resort seems to realy have it's eyes on carving out their demographic.

Remember how one big complaint was how the bathrooms don't have air filtration? That's not the case. The following is an excerpt from a UOR response to a post on TripAdvisor:

Our bathrooms do have a ventilation system; however it is not the typical system you find in other resorts. This system pulls the air from a fan deep in the air duct and replaces it with air through the closet. This eliminates any fan noise that you would typically hear.

I wish I could have this system in my house, I really hate fan noise, drives me crazy and hardly turn them on until I am done and leaving the bathroom lol

Did the person complaining about no fans have an issue or did they just observe there was none to turn on?

I believe Portofino has a similar system. There's never any extraneous sound in their bathrooms that are nearly the size of a small motel room.

They're complaining because there's no fan noise, therefore it's more audible when they drop a deuce. So everyone is literally complaining out their ass.

The thing about it is, and I understand this, by having the noise, people at least no it's on and working. Am I just supposed to automatically think it works no matter what when I can't even hear it? How do I know when it ISN'T working?

I'd assume that if you took a hot shower and the mirror wasn't foggy when you were done, it was working. If it was foggy, it isn't working. or it was foggy and just a poorly designed system which happens too.

Yeah seriously I know my fan is not on when my mirrors fog up. If you have no issues (smelly bathroom after x amount of minutes or fogged up mirrors), who cares if you hear it or not?!?

Obviously that's a sign it's working/not working, but as annoying as the sound can be, I think people like the definite knowledge that it's there and on immediately upon entering.

Ok lets do something fun here.

The system adopted here is superior in all ways, but one: guests don't know it's working. It's a human factors sorta thing in the way money is more understandable than the superior digital card system.

Cabana Bay Beach Resort Update

Highlights:
- New signage for Phase II.
- Knowledge that Phase II is opening just in time for Potter Phase II - so June 16th is the projected opening date.
- Pedestrian bridge construction continues; no "overhead" construction is complete yet.
- Views from Thunderbird peek into IOA and offer great views of the parks.
- Phase II construction pictures. Lazy river and pool filled with water, restrooms nearing completion, Hideaway Bar & Grill signage is going up, most major construction is complete within the hotel structures.
- A foliage shot to feed our local Teebin.

Excellent update, thank you! It's nice to see the things which tie the complete resort together such as the new signage going in. I can't wait to get a proper look at the lazy river.

But this view:

...makes it look like a very long walk!

Excellent pictures. I especially enjoyed the view of the empty lot & the perspective it gives you on future hotel?/resort? expansion.I don't think I've seen that photo shot on any other site. Nice debut.....As I've said before, I don't envision many people taking the walk way. When we stay at Portofino, which is about the same distance, we don't see many other tourists when we choose to walk to the Studios/IOA. But they may end up having a thriving pedicab business.

I disagree....I think it will get a lot of use. I enjoy the walk from Portofino....and when I was down there at Christmas, a lot of people enjoyed walking...

The walk from the Portofino is shaded, private, and along the water canal. The walk from Cabana Bay is on a major road...

Thanks for the excellent update, violarum! I love how you're including information in addition to your great pictures!

The concept art made it seem like the walkway would still be surrounded by trees, so it shouldn't feel like you're right on the road, but we'll see what the final product looks like.

^Theres no room to do that lol. Theres the sidewalk with the road right next to it on one side and the park berm on the other. Unless they were to narrow the road theres no room to significantly change the landscaping along that path
