Despicable Me doesn't seem like a good subject choice for the long run. While it may enjoy continued success with two sequels, I just can't see it being remembered in the future. I feel that kids movies are pretty disposable nowadays. Using the same ride system just makes me want to skip this but hey I think kids will enjoy it but that means one less attraction I can enjoy. On a slow day at Universal i'm gonna want more.

I think it's a pretty good choice. Even if you haven't seen the movie, the concept can still be fun. And kids will always love the characters. Gru and Vector are hilarious and the kids are adorable.

Don't forget those minions! I can't help laughing every time they open their mouths.

Yeah I dont get the whole criticism for despicable me. It truly is a great family film and IMO will be a better and more remembered replacement then Jimmy Neutron for the average tourist.

The only gripe I had and still have is the theming, but regardless, I'm highly interested to see how well Universal will make this attraction.

It does not need to last 20 years. It will last long enough for what is going into it.

Not sure if this is new or not, (I haven't noticed it before) but Despicable Me merchandise is now being sold at the CityWalk Universal Studios Store.

^ I know the minions were being used as prizes for the carnival games, but I'm not sure about the others.

Well, truthfully, the relevancy of the source material shouldn't hold anyone back from creating a theme park attraction. What really matters is if it can be a great concept for an attraction. Great attractions have long lasting appeal even if their source material isn't well known anymore. A few examples: Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain, Popeye, and Waterworld.

Probably the best example would be Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Back in the 50's, Mr. Toad was considered irrelevant even then. But that didn't stop Walt. He knew that the idea of riding around recklessly, like Mr. Toad himself, is brillant for a theme park attraction. And to this day, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is seen as a Disneyland classic.

So yes, if an attraction is executed brilliantly and the good word of the mouth gets out, the people will come, no matter what.

I'm not sure if I should post this here or not, since this thread now only focuses on Despicable Me, but a employee confirmed to me that Jimmy Neutron is back open today and will remain open until August 18th. So if you want to give it a final ride, now is the time.

I understand that you're not a huge fan of the ride, but having it open is better than it sitting empty. Having it all closed up actually hurts the atmosphere of the park entrance for me.

I guess so, but I'd rather that they worked on DM over the summer, so it could open as early as possible. This seems like a waste of two months in which work could be done.
