I have to admit that I'm really uncomfortable with the amount of opinions made on the queue so far. Sure, you can say that your opinion aren't complete and whatnot, but you're still offering your thoughts via written text - something far more permanent and perpetual than a simple conversation. It's just the nature of text. Your thoughts are on the record.

Having said that, I really don't understand the fuss with Disney queues. Haunted Mansion has plenty of switchbacks along with Pirates of the Caribbean. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage's queue was pretty bad, and the Tower of Terror line isn't anything to write home about either. Maybe I have a short attention span, but I'd rather watch a few overhead monitors instead of waiting in a garden environment. Queues are queues and while an extended effort is always commendable, it's not a prerequisite for an awesome attraction experience. I get that a nice garden environment is nice, but I just want to be entertained in an otherwise pretty crappy situation. Gardens don't do it for me. Monitors and videos do.

...and maybe that's why I prefer Universal in this regard. I want to be entertained, and while going through rustic rooms with traces from America's highway system scattered about was nice, I was utterly bored throughout the entire experience. This isn't a knock on Disney, but it shows another side to the argument.

The problem is not the switch backs, its the fact that you will enter Grus house, exit into un theme switch backs, then re enter his house.

Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror do not do this. Once you enter the building you are fully immersed and at no point taken out of the story of the ride.

And based on the video and photos so far, Universal made no attempt to theme the ramp leading from the facade to the pre show rooms.  So whether the queue is short or long you will always have that gap in theming and that's the problem.

Haha when Cars Land was just about to open, forum members on a certain site decried about the Radiator Springs Racers queue, "Disney shan't dare add monitors to entertain guests that will distract from my brief whimsical distraction of being in an authentic Route 66-esque bottle house!"

To address the "issue", all I can say is that I just really don't care. Not a knock on other people who do take issue with the queue setup, but I'm going to wait to see the full thing when it's done before making my full opinion on whether or not it works. Is it a bit disappointing that the extended queue will take place in a brightly-painted blue industrial lot with monitors? Yeah, I guess a little. Is it going to take away from the rest of the attraction for me? I doubt it.

This is a DISCUSSION forum, correct? And exactly! Thank you. Nowhere at Disney do you enter an unthemed queue after initially entering the themed main ride building. All the examples given about Disney are EXTENDED or EXTERIOR queues which are separate from the main building.

THAT is my issue. I've made that clear a few times. That you enter a beautifully themed facade and go a few feet through Gru's house, only to be dumped back into an unthemed metal queue, and then back into a themed queue. The disconnect and gap in themeing disturbs me, that's the thing.

That's why I don't have an issue with Transformers' extended queue AT ALL. It's separate and...an extended queue. I'm not THAT anal in thinking that every queue space HAS to be themed to the brim. My issue with DM is that gap in themeing. I feel like a broken record...

Everyone likes different things and different details regarding theme parks. I'm not bashing the ride or the overall DM project. I'm very excited for it. Just pointing out what I'd like to see improved.

On the podcast, some of you go hours on end complaining about certain aspects about Universal or certain attractions or details. To this day I know for a fact a few of you still complain about the Transformers Ride mural we got compared to what Florida/Singapore got for their facade. Everyone has their own opinion!

As a reminder, it won't take away from the rest of the attraction for me. It won't reduce my overall enjoyment of the experience Universal is creating. Just noting an initial reaction I have to something I find is a very small flaw in the beautiful and grand scheme of things.

Don't see what's wrong with offering our initial thoughts in written form though....it's a discussion forum.

I think questioning our personal opinions makes this subject drag on longer than it needs to be. Again, some of us like to see more details or like different things. Pretty simple.

Speaking of themeing, I'm curious if Universal will theme the outside of the show building from the viewpoint of SSFL, especially the "curved" T2 structure above the exit of the gift shop. I would extend the SSFL themeing to the building.

I think this issue lies in the fact that this building was not designed for this attraction.  They attempted to do something larger in scope from Orlando while maintaining the original vision and working around the existing building.  Don't forget, this is an ET/Mummy redo.  The building stayed, while the entire attraction was built from scratch.

I do understand wanting to rival Disney quality.  Sometimes, its not logistically possible.  Usually due to budgets more than anything else.  I understand the break in theme.  I understand the quality we are getting.  I will accept it and talk about those who have issues with it later   :)

I have nothing against people stating their opinion and such against it. I do have a problem with exaggerations of "CHEAP MOVE UNIVERSAL!" and comparing to Disney and the like as if they're impenetrable.

Agree to disagree but I don't think "cheap" exactly can be a phrase planted on this project.

There will always be the Disney umbrella over us.  That's part of being a Universal fan.  Has Universal shown to be cheap in some areas in the past...yes.  So, that mentality has been stapled in for quite some time.  To now see the fact that big money is being spent on our little park... I am shocked and surprised by some really great use of space we now have going on.

I was a person who called Universal "cheap" in many areas.  It also comes from personal experience with them.  I am also the first to admit I was wrong.

I really like what they have done with Simpsons Plaza.  Its going to look very nice once its all done.  Even if I had to lose my Amity area to gain this :(

I understand the ambivalence, definitely. I just see this as a wonderful step in the right direction, and there's always going to be cuts. Harry Potter, by pure default, will knock everybody's socks off so I guess we just have to keep looking in that direction.

BTW -- does anybody have photos of this area now?

The progress that Universal, especially USH, has made in just the past few years is extraordinary and I'm very excited about the future of USH as a whole. They're making amazing strides with the space that we have. I'm actually excited for the Springfield additions now, considering the carnival games alone have really provided to the quality of the Simpsons experience visually! Universal has made very cheap and shortsighted decisions in the past. And while I'm not a fan of part of the DM queue, overall I am very very happy with everything Universal is accomplishing.

Two questions for those who went on DM in Orlando.

Can you give me a comparison as to how big the DM screen size is? Compared to T2, Transformers, etc?

Also, I take it that the ride has 4D effects, right? Can't be a Universal ride without exuberant amounts of water being thrown at guests ;)

I'm just very sick of reading the same argument. No one is changing anyone else's minds. I'm irritated with the same circle of discussion. We all agreed to disagree. I wish we could all just not agree and not argue about it.

If not I'm just never participating in this topic again. Easy enough.

"The aim of an argument or discussion should not be victory, but progress."

I'm enjoying the discussion on this discussion forum. Doesn't seem like anyone is trying to change anyone's mind.

Well it does seem like it's annoying as hell. It's the same discussion point over and over. There's no progress being made. Therefore, its still aimless.

I agree, but I think the point being made is that the ride has yet to open, and there's only so much you can interpret from sneak-preview photos in lieu of experiencing it in person. I'm all for fruitful discussions, but I think we're hitting a dead wall at this point. It's now wait and see.

But to give everyone credit, it's fine to have conflicts on a discussion forum. As long as we remain civil (which we have been doing), it's fine to have public disagreements. No opinion is sacred.

It's pretty hard to give a scope on the size of the screen as there aren't really any rides to compare "screen size" to. The best way I can descrbe this is comparing images of Jimmy Neutron's screen to DM's:

Neutron:

DM:

dsc03944_2.jpg

Basically, the screen takes up the entire front wall of the theater.

Q 2: Yes, the ride does have some 4D effects and there was a scene involving the famous Universal water gag. They sprinkled water on the riders, there was some lighting effects...and that's all I can remember. I could foresee them putting in laser effects in one particular scene.

Yes, DM screen is more in line with a Transformers screen in size and scope.

Get ready for a lot of bumping into 3D effects.  A new tradition for Universal simulators.

Some pictures from today:

Queue video was playing a test but it looked nothing like the one from Orlando so maybe they incorporated clips from the second film and mini movies?
