Because of the nasty weather here in Otown, the announcement has been postponed.

Bob Iger is going to be on CNBC at 3:10pm today. It will be interesting to see if he mentions it.

Why in the blue hell did they decide to do this outdoors? Do they know they're in Orlando?

Probably has a lot to do with TDO's collective head being buried deep down in the sand.

Actually rain this time of the year is more rare in Orlando. This is the first time we have had rain in weeks at my house. I think the last time was overnight. If they scheduled at 4 PM in the middle of summer, then I would say they were crazy.

Exactly. Actually, I would say this is the first time we see REAL rain since the beginning of the year.

"More rare" doesn't mean rare. I lived in Orlando from Jan-May of '08 and we got plenty of rain during the winter/early spring.

The info was released to the cast. nothing we don't already know. Name will change to Disney Springs, shopping and dining expanded but no vendor names were released, a parking garage in West Side and Marketplace, new aesthetics with an "Old Florida/Water/Green" setting. Captain Jack's will close and a bridge will be built from by Rainforest to T-Rex.

Banks Lee just posted on twitter about a having to be evacuated from Disney Quest with fire fighters on the scene. Possible fire?

Someone may have pulled an alarm, or the kitchen might have set it off. I know they've evaced the entire Cosmic Rays/Stitch building complex several times on false alarms before. Probably nothing serious. A fire truck pulled up lights blazing and siren going as I was walking down the parking lot side of AMC a few nights ago, but it was business as usual when I was down on the West Side about two hours later.

Let's just say that traffic due to construction won't look pretty

I think I will start adding an hour of round trip travel time to my DTD visits, and not because of the construction on BVD! I think its time to utilize the boat transportation options while this mess is going on.

I'm very glad I stay at POR when I go to Disney. Trying to get to Earl of Sandwich would be a chore otherwise.

Although sometimes waiting for a boat at POR during a busy evening headed to DTD can be a little backed up but nowhere close to being as stressful as the parking situation is

Meh. The parking situation at DTD has always and forever been completely overblown, IMO. Marketplace is the only lot that's crazy. I usually would park in PI and walk.

As for the boat, I don't go at peak times anymore so I don't have to worry all that much.

That is what we did last week knowing that parking is so horrendous down on the Marketplace side. Parked right behind Splitsville with no hassle and no traffic or waiting.

I always park in the back at Entrance 5 behind Cirque Du Soleil. There are always plenty of spots back there. Perfect if you're going for something on the Westside.

It is entirely dependent on when you go and how patient you are. The other day I was meeting someone for dinner at T-Rex so I didn't have the time to play games trying to find a spot. Ended up driving around the T-Rex lot, headed down towards Cirque, and still had to park in the very back row in the lot in front of Cirque. Usually I can get a spot in the smallest Marketplace lot in 10 minutes or less, but definitely not that night. Yes, that very far lot is rarely ever used, let alone full, but it also reflects traffic and guests' priorities for DTD.

Saturday I had to make a return at Lego and it was a pain in the ass trying to find a spot. I found one, but good God was it a nightmare.

Earlier today, we unveiled plans for Disney Springs, the exciting, multi-year transformation of Downtown Disney at the Walt Disney World Resort, and I’d like to give you all a glimpse into what we’ve got planned.

Walt Disney World Resort guests and local Florida residents have been enjoying Downtown Disney for more than 30 years, but we knew we had an opportunity to reimagine and reinvent this corner of the resort. We’ve spent a good deal of time thinking through just what we want this area to be, and how to bring it to life to make it a place unlike any other. And we have even scrapped a few preliminary plans that we felt didn’t measure up to our aspirations for this place.
Our fundamental goal is to create a welcoming, comfortable space where families can enjoy time together and instantaneously feel right at home. We want to give them opportunities to relax, to be entertained, to wander in and out of unique and distinctive shops or enjoy a world-class dining experience. And because we are Disney, we’ve anchored the entire experience around a story that gives us the ability to deliver on the legendary place-making and creativity for which we are known. The result is Disney Springs, a timeless and vibrant place that celebrates the turn-of-the century lakeside towns that dotted the Florida landscape.

GalleryAnnouncing Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resortview all

The story of Disney Springs begins at our new Town Center, which is oriented around a series of bubbling natural springs that first attracted settlers to the area. From there, the town grew to encompass three additional neighborhoods: The Landing, Marketplace and West Side – each with its own distinct charm and atmosphere. For more about each of these districts, click here.
Once complete, Disney Springs will expand from 75 to more than 150 shopping, dining and entertainment venues, featuring some of the world’s most iconic brands and restaurants. Construction is set to begin next month. The expansion will open in phases and we expect to complete our development in 2016. We look forward to sharing more details in the future here on the Disney Parks Blog
