First of all, what the heck is Trader Sam's and Shake Shack?
Not sure what I think of this concept, and until construction starts, I don't believe it will ever happen. Disney's biggest mistake was closing PI back in 08 without a new concept ready to go in. One of the problems with third parties going into Disney is actually dealing with Disney. My husband worked at Alfredo's way back in the 90s, and was almost brought in as a consultant by an outside company on a PI replacement, and here's the deal with building anything there: the third party pays for the construction of the building, and then immediately turns over the deed to Disney. This is probably why previously announced concepts never panned out, especially in the early years after PI closed, when the economy was flat and no one could get financing for construction when you would not be the owner of the building when it was completed. Plus, their "rental fees" are huge; perhaps this has changed, but it used to be that 24.9% of each day's receipts immediately went into Disney's coffers, at the end of every business day.
To me, the concept art looks a lot like the Premium and Prime outlet malls, and do we really need another Coach outlet? True, I would love some shopping like they used to have back in the old days of the Disney Village, when not everything was Disney merchandise, but I'm not sure "malling" it is the way to go. I might like some unique boutiques, maybe local craftsman's items or something, I don't, just something different than what surrounds the tourist areas.
I really don't like how vague they are being about this. "Yeah, we have another idea for DTD, and here are some of the things you MIGHT see there, we just want to announce it and see what happens and who wants to be here."
