Is it really just "dumb tourist problems" tho? You just said its 150 tenants large. It's Disney Springs, not Waterford Lakes or the Fashion Square. Locals won't be visiting this with enough frequency to familiarize themselves with where every single shop is. This is a smart addition, for everyone.

I feel like I tend to have a pretty good understanding of exactly where everything is, including many of the Town Center, but then again I pay more attention to the on-goings/visit much more often than even the average FL local.

I will gladly take any Mall that allows me to choose between The Edison; STK; Raglan Road; The Observatory, Morimoto's Asia, Amphicars, outside clear water springs, live entertainment, Hot Air Balloon, Splitsville, BB KINGS, Cirque....

Bring that mall to Nashville, or Columbus, or even Atlanta and I will never have to step foot into Disney Springs again

Wow. This really does look like a mall. So is this mostly in what was the Pleasure Island area between Marketplace and West Side? Having trouble picturing it.

That's because it is a mall... (and honestly always has been)

On the other hand, Disney is smart to build a mall on their own property for all the guests that love to spend cash. Better than guests leaving the property to shop nearby malls, which they would.

I ironically just today heard a Sephora commercial on the radio, didn't really think much of it and I wasn't really paying attention until at the end it said to come to their new location at Disney Springs. It's kind of odd to think of DTD as just a place to go when you need to go to Sephora. It's always been a shopping destination but it truly is more of a generic shopping destination now.

That's been the point of this entire project from the beginning. Limit people from going to the outlets and Florida Mall.

This is where Google's "Don't be evil" edict is all the more appreciated.

Disney cannot - and i seriously mean CANNOT even though it tries, because it fails so often - be everything and anything someone would need. The rest of the world needs to continue to exist and they need to learn to cope with that.

Obviously they won't stop everyone. But even stopping a % of guests from renting cars and just staying on site is what Disney is aiming for. No one is dense enough to think Disney is going to takeover Orlando in full.

I've never done any shopping at DTD other than at World of Disney.

As a local I go there pretty often and I do a fair amount of shopping and also dining. The changes to the area have made it a version of World Showcase. Lot's of shopping, dining and entertainment.

I really don't see why everyone wants to hate on DS. Sure, i'd rather PI not have closed, but i'm also glad that the place isn't a ghost town anymore.

It has quite a few dining options now, especially with all the ones opening. I usually just did Wolfgang Puck Express over in the Marketplace as I wasn't a big fan of the other options (I did like T-Rex Cafe because... dinosaurs). But shopping? Maybe now..

Also, the Downtown Disney in Anaheim has had a Sephora for years. I hate to bringing up DLR but just to give you guys some perspective that there is some precedent for some of these things.

Disney has rented to third parties for years. That Earl of Sandwich that so many love wouldn't be there if DTD wasn't for sale to outside vendors before. Just because much of the tenants in this new area are shopping related suddenly makes it different just because it's something that people on here don't care for? And there is most definitely precedent of non-Disney shopping stores at DTD (mostly on the West Side).

You guys probably just walked past them and didn't even notice. The Town Center is also 95% secluded. You can enjoy DS just like before and not even enter the area or be harassed by those evil stores.

I don't think the shopping is a bad thing. As a local it's great to have another mall to choose from. I only see it as a negative to the vacationing visitor. WDW used to be a as a whole an immersive environment that took you out of the real world. DTD added to this and provided different experiences whether it be shopping at some unique Disney stores, spending the evening at what was essentially a night club theme park, or Disney Quest. DTD used to add to the overall experience whereas now it is simply a mall that is closer. To me it's no different than if they decided to build a grocery store, sure it's great and convenient, but you have to step back and say why is Disney doing it and how does it add to the vacation experience.

Not to mention - with the new area opening May 15 they're once again doubling the number of stores that sell almost nothing but flipflops.

How many flipflops does the world need?

Foreigners tend to spend a ton of money shopping at local malls while in Orlando, so i'd argue for them (who it's mostly aimed at) it adds convenience, but overall I get your point for everyone else.

So, there aren't going to be any moderately high-end stores? Even DTD had a few...

They shop at the outlet malls, because denim is a trendy thing that costs a fortune outside of America and we can sell it dirt cheap there.

A bunch of flipflop stores and a few other vastly overpriced holes in walls does not good retail make.

They are just holes. I have not seen retail spaces so tiny in ages. The much bemoaned shops in Hogsmeade and Diagon are bigger than most of these stores. And then they sell one item or type of item and often that item is insanely priced - but without any actual increase in quality.
