So that’s where the money to this building went.

Looks oddly rustic inside (from what I can see in the video, anyway). Certainly not a terrible interior, though.

Memento Mori wins the battle of Haunted Mansion gift shops, however, because it feels more like it belongs -- in terms of placement and style -- where it is.

I said on a park visit three days ago that this looked like it was going to open any day now (construction workers were going in and out of the store, and though they were quick glimpses, I could see is basically looked done inside). Sometimes I'm actually right!

Because we got the SoCal Holiday tickets, we have a third visit to the parks, and we had already reserved for right after the holidays, so I'll be seeing it in a few days.

Anyone know when the rest of the new part of Downtown Disney is supposed to open? It looks nearly done as well, but I do know staff need to train, and I didn't notice any people in it.

EDIT: Looks like walls have come down in Downtown Disney!

The vloggers are MAD they opened the Leota shop literally as their blackout dates started. :lmao:

I looked it up because a lot of the DLR ones I followed all posted like see you next year posts. I had no idea that DL didn't even sell a pass that includes this last week of the year.

I think they know the vloggers will literally buy a ticket to cover it if they want to bad enough. Disney is greedy.

So some are willing to buy tickets for this

I'll see it in a week...not paying 200 bucks to look at a gift shop...lol

This is so pathetic. I would expect this kind of crap from Six Flags not freaking Disneyland. Jesus.

I would be less surprised (still surprised, though) if this were at WDW, where management seems to have little sense of pride or legacy, but at Disneyland?

This is a truly embarrassing project in all aspects.

Why would they use AI generated art when the Imagineering archives are filled with legendary Haunted Mansion concept art done by Imagineers? It's mind-boggling. Maybe it was all outsourced? It's truly inexcusable.

Every element of this project has proven wretched, top to bottom. I don't even know what to say. Third-party AI garbage in a Disney theme park.

Yeah, so bizarre. Here's an example of something that went wrong that isn't really on people's radar: when they first put up the steel structure, and specifically the beams for the roof (at the peak and two side inflection points where roof angle changes), the beams extended out the depth of the front roof overhang. Then, days later they had sawed one beam back flush with the wall. This really caught my attention because it's unusual to see something in steel corrected like that onsite. Presumably they cut the other beam back another day. (I'm including images.)

My point here is that while there are always problems and surprises in construction (I've been involved in building things for decades), this problem, on what is such a basic structure when it comes to commercial construction, is head-scratching. Clearly it wasn't thought through well enough by the architect and the builder.

The porch post you walk straight into when exiting the attraction, the terrible detailing where the structure meets the ground, shoddy finish work around windows, ugly electrical outlet boxes all over...I can keep listing architectural and builder failures that you just don't typically see in commercial construction. It really is as if the "interns" were responsible for this. Maybe some day we'll hear the story behind this project!
