Found some cool concept arts (from here) of the Indiana Jones ride, these are the three chambers of Mara that you went through.

Been watching crowds

and Watch Freshbaked Video on the crowds

DCA seems normal mostly though in the afternoon after people can park hop

Disneyland is pretty crowded and with no MK....now for sure many MKs are still paying to come in but MK can't come in and the parks are packed....kinda insane to me how in one day you can switch off MK and the parks stay the same? So really wonder how many people are coming just for these two weeks and how many are people with MK buying single day tickets

HMH is also more popular then ever....something online fans hate but the people going seem to still love even more then Small World Holiday which is around 2 months less.

So yeah, its one of those insane things where people online don't "like" how the parks are being run with break downs and the new shop sucking but....most people seem not to care and are willing to spend 200 bucks to go to one of the best parks int he world regardless of its issues and price.

The world has a lot of sommeliers, but the overwhelming majority of people just drink wine to get drunk.

This is shocking:

The short version: Disneyland management didn't want Imagineering to handle this because Imagineering projects are "too expensive." So they bought a commercially-available kit and assembled it with some tweaks.

I've never heard of a park going around Imagineering for a park project, even a relatively small-scale one like this.

So this video disappeared and I wanted to watch it. Was it by a major Disney vlogger?

Yes. Fresh Baked Disney IIRC.

Correct.

And the shocking part wasn't so much the visual depiction, but the information about it being a non-Imagineering project (and why).

Was at the park yesterday. Yes, it was quite crowded. I don't have an AP anymore (I refuse to call them keys, lol), so I got the SoCal Holiday ticket, which meant I had to go three times all in a short span. So I imagine many others were in the same boat.

Despite it being pretty mobbed and a few rides going down, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We did not get any Lightening Lane nor make any dining reservation, but we still got a lot done: Rise, SM (x2), BTMRR, Tiana, Matterhorn (x3), HMH, Indy, IASM, MRR, Pirates, Smugglers, Mark Twain, Alice, Monorail, and Train. Mostly thanks to Single Rider lines, and the "breakdown" plan for Rise: watch the app and wait until it breaks down, then head over. It's a gamble, but it pays off more often than not. We waited 25 min for it to reopen, but once it did, we waited 15 minutes in the standby line to ride.

As for dining, we ate at Cafe Orleans, and just added our names to the walk up list the moment it opened for lunch. Just 45 min later (doing other rides and shopping as we waited), we were eating there without any prior reservation. For dinner, we went to the hotel. The Broken Spell lounge had little to no wait, but we ended up at Tangorora Terrance for the Pu Pu Platter.

In the bigger news, I saw people inside the new Parkside Cafe in Downtown Disney. I presume it to be training.

There was also some new (to me) merch at the new Mansion store, as well as Hotel and Trader Sam's merch at the hotel (all on my Bluesky).

Also gotta point it, this really irritates me, even more than the Mansion store using bought material. Can they not come up with something better here? It's such a Six Flags look.

It’s not entirely unprecedented tbh. There are dollar thresholds over which you have to get more approvals (ie, more scrutiny and harder questions). My guess is that they off-the-shelf’d it to stay under a threshold because there wasn’t much of a business case/didn’t want to have to justify it above Ken.

Typhoon Lagoon once nearly added (or at least signed a contract for) a completely off-the-shelf ProSlide where Miss Adventure Falls is… which then cost about 5X once it got WDI’d.

I think the unprecedented part is Disneyland management apparently wanting to completely avoid all Imagineering involvement. Even in the implementation of the off-the-shelf/commercial installation.

What I wrote wasn't really clear about what I was trying to say, but Disneyland management management wanting to completely avoid all Imagineering involvement is what I find not entirely surprising.

My guess is that the quote for custom WDI build was insanely expensive and then WDI managing the Home Depot shed build was only slightly less expensive, so they took that idea and just hired interior designers. The WDW equivalent is having BVCC do something instead of WDI, except they've more competent than this.

Even if they wanted to avoid the expense typically involved utilizing WDI, don't they have craftsman/artists that would have done a better finishing job than that? I don't think the issue is so much about off-the-shelf parts (although the interior artwork has no excuse) but how they transform it afterward, or didn't in this case. I get saving costs where you can but that work looks cheap!

they’re running a luxury resort and this is well below that standard. if working with your chief creative partner is no longer viable, fix that problem. don’t use it as an excuse to deliver an inferior product.

You’re correct. It doesn’t want to be associated because it doesn’t want to be seen as just an associate in the project. It wants be to credited for building the whole thing.

I’m happy with the new look. Never liked the bride we had since 2006.
