Well that's what has been said over at Magic for at least 3-4 days, maybe close to a week now. Money will be spent throughout the resort to plus it for the 50th, but the majority will be at DHS.

Except not really.

$3bn is a lot but not a lot for new rides or shows for DHS. Remember people throwing around $2bn at WDW recently but forgetting new fantasyland was ~$300 million of that, rest MM+.

At least you ride on the roads some.

I'm more worried about the rumored Illuminations replacement than anything.

With everything else, there's nowhere to go but up so i'm not that concerned that they're gonna screw a turd up.

I actually never thought the $300M had anything to do with that $2B... I thought it stood on it's own as a MM+ budget.

If the $3B is for other parts of the resort, then I can buy into that number. Wonder if that rumored DHS roadway rework is still happening.

It is. There are permits up for it already. That alone will cost a pretty penny.

So, hearing more about the "3 billion number", it makes a lot more sense, and the "plan" makes that number a lot less exciting in its entirety.

Still, at least money will be spent.

When you spread that over a number of years, & consider how expensive road changes are, that's kind of in line with the pre Iger yearly capitalization expenses for WDW. Similar to capitalization in the Eisner days when they actually put in new attractions on a fairly regular basis.

Right, don't get me wrong, it's great. They'll actually be building things.

But the breathless repeating of the 3 billion number is a bit disingenuous when it'll be spread over a number of years and around the entire resort, including infrastructure upgrades.

DHS's entrances have been messed up since day 1. Also, moving the entrance road will free up some room for the park expansion.

Access to DHS is a poorly planned, counterintuitive mess. They will be rectifying that once and for all as well as removing the alternate entrance behind Star Wars freeing up expansion land.

^ I just did. I can see no sign of turnstyles over there nor can I figure out why it would ever be needed.

I think they mean that there are two entrances to the parking lot, not to the park itself.

Correct, the entrance behind Star Wars is even bigger than the "main" one. So weird.

And fun fact, if you go through this entrance when the park is near capacity there is a chance that they will just funnel you straight out of the parking lot to Buena Vista Drive without even knowing it. :fist:

Aaah.. thanks. I did understand it differently as it was referred to above as the, "alternate entrance behind Star Wars".

That would be because the Star Wars' side toll booths "IS" the main entrace to the parking lot. All parks were suppossed to be connected to one main entrance, World Drive. It was MK only entrance back in the 70's, since most of the tourist will stay in 192. Then Int'l Drive grew fast during the 80's and brought a huge amount of tourists from the Northeastern side of WDW. So 536 (Epcot Center Dr) was born together with Epcot to feed WDW better for all those NE tourists. And finally DHS was born with same entrance from World Dr like the other two parks but this time there was no feed from the NE, except through back roads... and since most tourist want NE access instead of the original south entrance, the problem began to rise... actually I think the NE entrance was just the original exit of the parking lot.

When it comes to art, money isn't the factor, talent is. I've seen nothing since 1992 indicating Imagineering still has that.

Are you freaking kidding me? You have got to take your head out of the swamps or somewhere else...

Tokyo Disney Sea. Enough said.

Need recent examples? Radiator Springs, the rest of the DCA redo, Mystic Point, Grizzly Gulch, Ratatouille.

Even the swamps received a gorgeous park nearly ten years after your cut off. It's not perfect, but it's sure a fine display of talent throughout the properly budgeted areas.

I could start back at 1992, but the list would be too long. We could start with Fantasmic!, Tower of Terror or Indiana Jones Adventure and go on and on and on.

Universal Creative is chalk-a-block full of those "talentless imagineering hacks" who worked for Disney all throughout the 90's and 2000's.

There is a line between lobbing fare criticism at WDW and being a jaded fanboi. Everyone is free to set up camp in the other side as a Universal specific forum, but at least try to stay within a few miles of the line.

/end rant
