I get what you're saying regarding trend setting. The challenge in my mind is what is the "next level" of an immersive environment? Do we have more interactions with "residents" in these settings or unique dining experiences where "local fare" might consist of some other-worldly culinary creation? Short of all-out cosplay, I'm not sure how much farther the boundary can be pushed.

It's hard to conceive that anything could out immerse Diagon. But I guess that's why those talented people are working in Universal Creative and we're writing forum postings. They are really that good. Kudos to them.:)

If I knew i wouldn't be on a forum talking about it!

Disney can't just match up to Diagon Alley. Look at the jump from Hogsmeade to DA for an example. It was more of the same, done on a larger scale and with more detail. SW can improve by adding more walk around characters that DA doesn't have or by really pushing the envelope with new attractions (which from what I've heard are all screen based so LOLOLOL). What I'm trying to so subtly hint at is Disney shouldn't aim for Diagon Alley, but another project.

For me, the first hint at where Disney is going should be Pandora. A glowing, almost living environment that reacts to the visitor with stunning visuals (floating mountains) that take you to another world, let alone another place (London/Diagon). This for me will be the indication if Imagineering can take it to the "next level".

Agree

to me the next step is just scale, more than anything else
Avatar
Star wars
have to go big and have big sets

Avatar will have huge floating mtns 143 ft tall you ll be surrounded by the environment similarly to DA
Star Wars art looks to be on a similar scale

Kong seems to be trending upwards in scale

New parking, a new entrance, and redevelopment around the park is happening. Not sure if it's concurrent with Star Wars or not.

imo the parking will have to be done by the time SWL opens. The current parking situation will not be nearly sufficient enough.

Just because they are going for the general type of are Diagon is doesn't mean it will be the same but Star Wars. We've barely seen anything of what the area will look like yet.

Hell, the artwork wasn't even real concept art. We have no idea what it will exactly turn out to be yet. We have hints here and there, but very little confirmed.

You couldn't be more correct. Otherwise, they'll have to run the trams from Epcot's lot.

From what people are saying on Magic, Carsland is off the table and Phase 3 will either be Monstropolis or The Incredibles.

Good. Not a fan of Cars so no loss there and I like both Monsters and Incredibles. An Incredibles area (possible combined with BH6 for phase 4?) could make for a nice superhero area. And there's also no Incredibles rides anywhere in the world so it'd be original.

Although the nice thing about a potential Monstropolis is hopefully they would move the Laugh Floor, which would open up space to start fixing Tomorrowland (which is much needed).

I think Disney has the ability and ambition to make SWL "Next level", the question will be, does it have the budget to do so.

Unlike HP, SW does not have the same unique merchandise opportunities. You can buy SW toys in pretty much any department store in the country. And other than adding Mickey Ears, I'm not sure what Disney can do to make exclusive merch.

My guess is that part of the reason they are making a "new" planet, is to create new characters and experiences that will be exclusive to Disney. This is what has me most excited/worried. They could easily screw this up.

i think in the end to succeed Disney has to do only one thing make a good ride with a high capacity of 2k or more and not an omni mover Disney has enough of those already the land around it can be somewhat bland but with a really good ride it doesn't matter as much but if they go opposite and make a good land that's highly themed and the ride is OK at best then Disney will get torn into by a pack of star-war wolves

I think replica lightsabers and jedi robes will be there for sure. But there are plenty of merch ideas that don't have to be off the shelf toys. Exclusive may be harder to pull off just cause everything has been done, but you can find a ton of the HP stuff online as well.

its alright Disney has all but stated that the cars land ride we would get would just be a slow moving indoor dark ride BC when it rains in Florida test track a similar type of ride basically shuts down

I don't understand what makes the difference between cars land operating in the rain vs any regular coaster. Is it due to the onboard electronics? I rode Splash Mountain in the pouring rain last visit. They didn't shut down the ride because there was no lightning.

Doesn't Disney already sell lightsabers and robes? I was referring to "exclusive" and "new" merchandise. Potter brought a lot of exclusive items, including food, candy, and ice cream flavors. I don't think SWL will have quite the reach.

Oh I'm positive they will come up with unique food options. I mean who doesn't want to eat a bantha burger or Mynock wings right? lol But seriously, I think a "blue milk" milkshake will be the signature drink of the area. And its not hard to scour the movies to make tie ins. The new movies will probably have some things built in for food and merch. There may not be a natural "butterbeer" but that doesn't mean they don't have plenty of material to work with.

Yes, and they can do a bar like the one they had at the Star Trek Experience in Vegas. I loved that place with it's themed environment and signature drinks.
