New permits filed for infrastructure changes at Hollywood Studios (found by danlb_2000 on the wdwmagic forums).

Disneys-Hollywood-Studios_Full_25746.jpg

Yellow = current wetlands being filled in for expansion
Blue = new wetlands being created to compensate for the filled ones
Green = current filled wetlands (DHS proper)
Orange = new construction access road
Pink = new I-4 of ramp

Disneys-Hollywood-Studios_Full_25747.jpg

Down in the bottom right of both images is a road labeled as "Future Osceola Parkway/Victory Way Interchange. Could this be the new entrance to the park? Also, at the end of the tram road at the right most potion of the parking lot is something labeled "Proposed Bridge." Could this be a part of the new entrance area?

I have been marveling at Disney's get-up-and-go as of late. The MK hub has been a very expensive project, Avatar is sizable, the build out of Harambe, Disney Springs is mind blowing, and now this rebuilding of wetlands and the footprint of DHS is very impressive. Something has woken the Disney Co up.

That said, DHS will likely remain a confusing mess, if only because it doesn't follow a north-south, east-west design. It is the only diagonal park that Disney has... to my knowledge. It drives me krazy kat...

If I ever go there again, it will be because Disney paid me to. Paid me very well...

This is very true. Current Rumors point to them attempting to remedy the situation with a rough version of a hub and spoke model.
The current Animation Courtyard area will be connected to Sunset Boulevard through a path starting between the Disney Junior stage show and the Star Wars Launch Bay (it will cut into some of the Launch Bay building) and ending either in the current service entrance inside of the collection of outdoor eateries area or the current service entrance directly to the left of it (when orienting yourself to the park's "top").

Also, the path next to The Little Mermaid stage show will be widened by cutting into the current queue area for the ride to allow for it to be used as a main guest path now (almost like part of the circle in the hub and spoke layout) leading through the courtyard into the other new path.

The Toy Story Land should also help by just making the paths "feel" like they're in a more hub and spoke layout by pushing the path farther from the hub area. Wow, that was a lot longer than I expected.

New parking, a new entrance, and redevelopment around the park is happening. Not sure if it's concurrent with Star Wars or not.

you would think they would want to get the infrastructure finished before opening a large new attraction area.

And the little park with 9 rides (by then) will have Potter sized crowds.

Mmm, yeah, good luck with that!

So, it sounds as if they are shooting for their own Star Wars version of Diagon. Fascinating.

It will be interesting to see if they can pull off the immersion of Diagon Alley. You can spend many many hours at Diagon exploring the intricacies and bones of the area. As contrast, we were completely underwhelmed by New Fantasyland at MK.New Fantasyland is beautiful & well themed, but short of the time spent in line for the two rides (which, contrary to popular opinion, we actually liked), there's nothing to do there. It's essentially a walk through area. In fact, while the rest of Fantasyland is shoulder to shoulder crowded,New Fantasyland is generally not busy at all, and mostly deserted once nightfall arrives. So, will Star Wars land be pretty, themed well, but with not much to do, or will it be like Diagon with pure immersion and enough things to explore where you can easily spend your whole day in it? I hope it ends up as good as Diagon, but we won't know until it actually opens.

Finally! I had heard lots of talk about the reroute of the entrance a while ago but then things got quiet.
This will allow them to extend back beyond ST and really grow that area of the park, almost doubling that area.
I can also see them using the other area (labeled DHS-2) to extend the LMA plot that will open up and give us the Carsland or other expansion for Phase 3.

Looking at the reroute of the I-4 ramp (the one marked future), this would allow another expansion pad behind the current one to open up. That might make a direct link possible between AoA and DHS, but I think that's in the more distant future

it prob wont work very well though one of the things they talked about putting in was the ability to use the force in certain spots kinda like the wands in diagon but anyone who have ever tried the magic kingdom card game will remember having to wait ten people back just to try it them selves.I think the only reason diagon works so well is the fact that universal is alot less crowded granted you will prob see lots of easter eggs and quite a few puns

This is the worst thing Disney can do. Diagon Alley is 2014, Star Wars is 2018. By the time it opens Diagon will be behind, just like Hogsmeade in 2014.

By "behind", do you mean less popular? I never have gotten the impression that Hogsmeade was falling behind in 2014.

The one thing DHS still needs is a water ride, especially in FL.

Behind as in the trend setter and cream of the crop. Skate where the puck is going not where it is.
