I was curious...
How has everyone's experiences been with the in-park wifi?
It's been about six months since they started rolling it out.

It works well, some places were spotty when it first came out, but it seems like those have been resolved. Recently I have had no issues.

Mine was terrible in January. I was continuously dropped from the network in every park except for the MK.

Yes, it was worse then, like I said, it got better over time. I was at MGM and I had a signal everywhere.

Passholders will be issued RFID passes next Wednesday, March 20th. From Touring Plans:

Beginning on Wednesday March 20, 2013, Walt Disney World guests who purchase or renew their Annual Passes will be issued an RFID pass as opposed to the old type. These passes can be used to enter the parks through the Next-Gen Touch Point entrances or through the regular turnstiles.

Existing passholders who would like to convert their passes to the new RFID style may do so between March 20, 2013, and May 19, 2013, at The Odyssey Center in Epcot during regular park hours. Passholders will need to show their pass and a valid photo ID to convert their pass.

The new passes will have a green background and will include a colored stripe to indicate whether or not the pass has parking privileges. Passholders who get free parking will have an orange stripe, and passes that do not include parking will have a black stripe.

I was hoping for a bracelet and not the pass. Of course this will be cool because when my hubby's friends came down we had to split at the entrance because they bought a pass that day and it was plastic and we still had the old ones. It was a little annoying that they split up a party like that.

Personally, I prefer the plastic cards. They'll go in my wife's wallet just fine like the paper one's, but will be more durable. Wristbands, however, would be just another thing to lose.

That being said, I was told by the CM when I renewed our AP's that passholders could buy the wristbands if we wanted to, so I'm sure you'll have that option.

I guess I would prefer having both - lol

With twin two year olds, the wristbands would be very nice to be able to wear and not worry about pulling it out from my wallet for fast passes and other things like that. Especially if I can tie it to my credit card. Makes purchasing food very easy when juggling kids.

I think the passes are available up until May and then after May they will be giving APers the bracelet. There are others here that may know for sure how its working but thought that's what the deal was.

Hmmm.... I would love to have the plastic passes, but I wonder if I get that if I won't be able to get the bracelet. Doubt it, but you never know with Disney.

Sad part is I am going to Epcot this weekend, just a couple days before they start handing them out :)

Attractions Maganzine has this story about it

Starting March 20, 2013, Disney’s Annual Passholders may trade in their paper tickets for new, more durable, plastic passes. These passes include an RFID chip, which will allow passholders to enter Disney’s theme parks using the new touch to enter locations that replaced the old turnstiles. (Read more about them Here.)

The new plastic annual passes are pictured above right, next to a current paper pass. The orange stripe indicates the guest has free parking. Passes without parking entitlements will have a black stripe. The RFID technology in the pass will allow the guest to enter the new touch to enter stations at the front of the park. Once the new FastPass+ system is enabled, the passes should also work for entering the Fastpass lines of attractions. The pastic passes will also work in the current FastPass machines.

Passholders have been told they will find out how they will be able to get a MagicBand, which replaces their pass, in the coming months. Since these new plastic passes are being rolled out now, that may mean the MagicBands have been delayed until later in the year.

Current Disney annual passholders who want to trade in their paper pass for a plastic one may do so by bringing their pass and a photo ID to the Odyssey building at Epcot between March 20 and May 19. This is voluntary. The paper passes will continue to work. But new passholders and those renewing will be given the plastic passes starting on March 20.

So am I reading this incorrectly that the magic band will replace the pyhisical pass all together?

Everything I have heard about the magic band says you are correct. If you choose to go with the magic band you will no longer have card.

I think it will be optional to go with the bands, but it would replace the cad. That is how I took that.

Now does that mean they are going to have RFID scanners at the parking gates also and have them act like a Sunpass does? That I wouldn't mind

That would be cool. I always thought they should have a AP lane only because it is a pain when you get stuck behind the person trying to find their money or ask a TON of questions. I wonder if the bands will be different for each type of pass so that the parking people know if they see a certain band that it means you get to park for free. What is interesting is that I know the parking attendants don't always look at the pass, so some people may get free parking with a seasonal pass by just showing it, so it being a certain color should stop that. Also, if they do the RFID scanners they should stop people from using expired passes. I did that when I was renewing my pass one time and they never noticed. Did it one other time by accident (showed the old, not the the new pass) and they never noticed.

If they do have scanners at the parking plaza im sure it would be able to differentiate the passes just like the ones are able to at the entrance of the park itself. The colors will be easier for the CMs to tell the difference but once the wrist bands come into play I dont know.
